Had a UK game where I made all the other majors go fascist so it was lke 1 v world, war started in 38, DDAY in 42-43, german AI was utilizing 5 tank divisions against my inf whereever my tanks werent, when i moved my tanks there they would move theirs somewhere else.

One of the best moments with this AI considering that most games the AI somehow ends up basically killing itself.

Brother I have to ask, did you not have any armor divs putting more than 10 medium_armors because of the weird ai template designer bug where instead of putting 12 mediums in 3 columns of 4 and instead splits it into 4 columns with 2 having 4 and 2 having 2 leaving no room for the remaining infantry in the division? Because I went down a whole schizo spiral of what was causing the ai to do this.

It's weird with railways because when you click the state it says railway level out of 5 but you can have multiple railway paths within the same state all at different levels which would lead me to believe that you would need to tell the ai to upgrade certain railways on particular provinces instead of on a state level, which would mean you have to tell them to individually upgrade loads of railways on individual provinces. And the thing with supply hubs and naval ports, you have to tell them to do it on provinces not states idek if the way I'm doing it would work if I just told them to put it in a province they might do it but it'd prolly be random where they actually put it.

You are correct that it's seemingly entirely impossible to get them to do it dynamically and intelligently, you have to tell them what to do and under what circumstances exactly. I can see why you would be concerned with incompatibility but that's not even the real problem. I haven't even done tests for railways yet, but I assume you could plausibly get them to build up railways in certain areas idk tho I haven't tried to do it yet.

yeah i tried finding a way to dynamically make them build important shit like supply hubs, railways, naval ports, airbases. but hoi doesnt support it. and i dont want to manually put in state id's and force them to do it since any mod that changes the states would break it

I've been trying, they don't exactly make it easy. I've been working on an ai industry overhaul that gets everyone to build civs and mils intelligently, gets ai italy and japan to build up supply hubs and ports in key areas particularly in north africa and central china, and trying to get all majors to build up particular air bases pre-war so they can effectively utilize large quantities of planes, getting them to do airbases has definitely been the most difficult so far as was trying to get them to build rail ways

you say you expect player to lose the air war, ai basically never builds air bases though so player has a massive advantage against ai by being able to preemptively build air bases and put way more air in a tile efficiently than the ai can

@Fatalist You don't, Japan will never attack USA in this mod. I am pretty sure the dev is not working on this anymore, he is working on a Victoria 3 mod now.

Nah the germans are still retarded. As the soviets I intentionally fucked up in finland, deleted all my planes, built my industry in the west, did not train my armies and did nothire anyone in the military staff untill the invasion. Still I ended up in berlin in 1943 while suffering less casualties than the germans. All this while having to hold Japan in manchuria because they went to war with me for some reason. :steamsad:

I've played with this mod and RT56 around 5 parties and can tell you that it is bullshit - Germany merges in each game, resting against Belgium and France, even with strengthening through the start settings. In 1943, the major countries had 2-3 templates, where there were no proper support companies and the width of the front rested on 25. AI production is not optimized. I'll probably go back to Better AI.

No gain? Every country industrial and military production is different, some use different doctrine and some use certain templates better than others, some support companies are more optimal for different power, like logistic companies for the eastern front. Even the 30 width tank is outdated and 18 width 6 tanks/3 mobilised perform better in terrains these days lol

I guess I could always tweak the mod file myself and im already doing that so that's no prob, just some suggestions

@Enrar adding separate templates to tags just increases my work for little to no gain. and making ai do different templates is anooying enough alr

@HAN switching tags should be fine maybe. idk i havent looked at the code in awhile but i dont remember making shit as unfriendly as expert ai. and i did have plans for UTTNH and still plan to do smth with it

The AI is def way better with this mod, but every nation use the same template it gets a bit old. If Germany and USSR uses different template but still competitive it would be way more interesting

wtf when did this get over 10k subs lmao.

anyway im taking a break from modding for a bit but i will fix any major issues like crashes if anyone reports them. When i come back to the mod im overhauling the production ai, and i might take a look at the micromanaging "skills" again.

ill look at all the comments from feb 6th to whenever i pick modding back up so if theres an issue leave a comment and it will eventually be fixed

Can you make "Normal AI" the default please? Im tired of setting up my nation just to be jumpscared by "PUSSY MODE ON". i think most people dont use pussy mode anyway

The AI also does not prioritize convoys high enough; I observe all nations, but primarily Japan, USA, & UK, run out of convoys and Japan especially death spirals because of it. (Can't get any resources because no convoys, can't build more convoys because no steel)

In many test games I observed Japan never once declares on the allies, presumably because it is not finished in China yet, but it never finishes in China because it gets bogged down in the western mountains. IMO in historic AI game Japan needs to declare on Allies even if still at war in China.

using this alongside KR makes the AI just run into your defenses with no air support, armor or equipment, this happens in vanilla too but this is supposed to be "smarter"

There's a problem with fighter production, at least on The Road to 56 mod.
So many ground support aircraft but no fighters, which makes them totally useless.

And the divisions are heavy to produce, which doesn't work well with the AI, which needs a lot of divisions to hold the front line.

But I get the impression that it's incapable of grouping its divisions by type (Infantry, Armoured) so the only solution is to produce a single model and run over your opponent or get run over :(

Thought it says KR compatible, the AI Perfomance is worse with this mod honestly, easily reach berlin as Russia in under a year, it was deadass underwhelming

As a solution, I strongly recommend adding some anti-tank guns to its templates. This should solve both problems and improve realism, without markedly increasing cost. I'm pretty sure that when I add halftracks they will become invincible no matter what they go up against. My armored divisions should be good. (Though not when using 1938 tanks.) Currently they are god.

I fought a war as Turkey using only a few armored divisions equipped with okay-quality 1938 medium tanks. I was unpreapred for the war when it began in 1942, but by late 1943 in spite of fighting while very badly outnumbered against the Axis, I had taken territory and had racked up a 12:1 kill ratio. Your mod is an improvement, but the AI still launches too many stupid attacks (which I know is a paradox problem) and (more to the point) remains incapable of handling player armor. The AI actually building and using tanks is a serious improvement. You have done very good work, don't get me wrong. Some divisions could even pierce me - definitely an improvement. But the AI still doesn't do much in the way of hard attack, so the ability to pierce armor is only part of the battle.

@Jonny B God, I am currently using Vanilla Navy Rework, which helps with AI naval production. It does not do convoy escorting though. Which is aggravating. If I am playing a naval-heavy game, I usually tag switch into my primary adversary, try to manage them for a bit, assign forces for escort missions and make any other beneficial changes, and and switch back to my main country (leaving ai disabled for both). You have to switch back periodically to keep from doing damage to the ai, but it's worth it if you want a better fight.

Good mod, yet AI do not use navy properly. Furthermore AI research industry in advance about 3 to 4 years, instead of researching 40 aircraft in 1941.

Are there any AI mods that makes the AI use navy in a basic decent way. Ex. convoy escorting? Or do Human players always need to not use subs/convoy raiding to not cheese the UK/US?

I liked it. But Japan not declaring war to Allies and with this USA can't join Allies. Can you fix this? Oh and I forgot. Sometimes Germany forgoting to invade Norway.
