Yeah the cel shading works mainly thanks to lightmaps; it relies moreso on the map itself to be executed well. Using actual lights removes that cel-shaded look, however you can have soft lighting to tint the shadows however you like. This is because SFM doesn't have proper shaders when it comes to cartoon/anime chars.
If i had a major complaint tho for both, is that the the unkown tab (AKA the face flexes) desperately needs to get organized properly, there are so many left and right sliders scattered all over the place and it's annoying to look for each one with so many other scattered options
