@Baleur -- You mean the textures on the planets in-game (not in the UI)? I would love to--I have planetary textures I've built in Blender that are gorgeous. But to my knowledge, DW2 in-game planet textures aren't edit-able. The game uses procedural shaders for everything through a process that isn't clear to modders :(
Baleur 24 May @ 7:55pm
Please do one for actual planet textures.
The gas giants are beyond horrendously ugly in vanillla..
Seriiously neon green and pink gas giants... lol

@Amartovoros - I did not create any special pics for gas giants (other than the new pic I put in for the galactic overview summary bar at the bottom).
Amartovoros 17 Apr @ 6:56am
Hi sorry i was long gone , i meant that the gas giants do not have any pic maybe thts supposed to be ?
oJy 15 Apr @ 2:55am
Hey i just wan't to say you can change your empire color ingame on game editor screen. Found at the bottom of the ESC menu.
NStriker 8 Apr @ 6:26pm
@salemonz I assume the line you've found is:
<FullsizeImageFilename>Environment/OrbTypes/Large/IceTundra</FullsizeImageFilename>
Where it should be:
<FullsizeImageFilename>Environment/OrbTypes/Fullsize/IceTundra</FullsizeImageFilename>

I've manually edited my OrbTypes.xml so we'll see how that goes.

@Skyguard, that would be a whole other mod.
Skyguard 8 Apr @ 11:52am
Could you also tweak the generated planet names to be somewhat comprehensible? I am having lots of trouble telling appart Yhgnutgn Prime from Wtnbiop II. I don't wanna go around and renaming every populated planet myself.
salemonz  [author] 5 Apr @ 12:14pm
@Amartovoros -- Was the "landscape" image you noticed for a Tundra planet? I think I found the problem.

The base game uses the file OrbTypes.xml to parse out all the images/stats for each planet. In the tundra planet record, they have a typo where it doesn't reference the right image. This is resulting in the game displaying my "landscape" image for both the planet data screen AND the ground battle screen. But it seems to be the only place where that is happening. (please let me know if I've missed a case where that is going on).

I put in a bug report to the DW2 team. But for now, Tundra planets will have a landscape picture in their ground battles. Boo!
Amartovoros 4 Apr @ 12:13pm
Nice , thanks for your effort.
salemonz  [author] 4 Apr @ 12:11pm
Seems like there might be some weirdness going on. Some pics might be showing up in spots I'm not anticipating (I've seen a couple of folks showing a landscape on the "ground battle" screen where they should have a map.)

Don't know if it's DLC related or just a mess-up on my part. Going to look into it.

The mod works with the new DLC...I just need to do some testing.
Amartovoros 21 Mar @ 1:36pm
Thank you :)
salemonz  [author] 21 Mar @ 1:24pm
@Amartovoros -- Some things might be a mess with the updates and upcoming DLC. I'll do a scrub through and update the mod when the game updates settle down.
Amartovoros 16 Mar @ 3:29pm
Hello there , nice mod , for some planets i see a landscape and for others just the planet , are there lacking images ? is it intended or am i missing something ?
ashbery76 26 Feb @ 8:05am
Maybe separate landscapes, maps.I prefer the old planet, stars.
ashbery76 26 Feb @ 8:03am
Dont like that Savanna.Looks too earthlike.
salemonz  [author] 12 Feb @ 3:07pm
I think we're up to v1.1.2 now...continuing to tweak some images for better distinction.

@Teranos -- I'm taking another look through the images...trying to get colors grouped together more (desert climate palettes vs oceans vs ice). I'll see about the moons. I might be bundled into moons/planets because of how vanilla handles types (for example, there's IceGlacial, IceTundra and FrozenIce in vanilla...those might show up as moons w/o atmo or planets w/ atmos).

Tricky sometimes :D
Teranos 2 Feb @ 2:49am
@salemonz - Thank you! New continental pic is good, also suitable for forest planets additional information screen!

I like the rocky ice moon landscape, but it seems to me, that it is more suitable for the rocky metallic moon. I imagine Rocky ice moon as uneven surface, representing giant glaciers, with huge canyons, faults and cracks, somewhat reminiscent of the surface of "Europa" moon and all this against the backdrop of a black starry sky.
I would also tone down a bit or completely remove the sulphur volcanic atmosphere to make it more natural "Io" like moon (plus it's barely noticeable in the game)

Don't get me wrong, it's already turned out great! If you tell me how to do it myself, I would try)

I hope the devs will add more modding options, soon, and make them simple. So that everyone can easily customize the game for themselves.

updated to v1.1.0...changed some pics based on feedback
salemonz  [author] 31 Jan @ 2:12pm
@ZumZoom -- Hrmm...maybe if I made some 3D renders that were more distinct, that might help differentiate things. I'm still a bit of a Blender newbie and was making some planets that were meant to be super big...when they get boiled down to tiny icons, you're right, the details get lost :D I'll see what I can do, though.

First things, I'll swap out some pics as suggested and then take a look at renders soon-ish.
salemonz  [author] 31 Jan @ 2:07pm
@Teranos -- Ground invasion maps are very dark. The game UI puts a big semi-transparent black box over that screen (similar to the partial black box they put on the colony summary UI screen). They don't let me edit the UI as of now. I have tried to make the image super bright to compensate, but it has a tendency to look washed out.

Let me try a few more subtle tweaks. But that might be one of those things that we're stuck with until the UI can be modded.
salemonz  [author] 31 Jan @ 2:06pm
@Teranos -- Yeah I can look to swap out the continental for some greener grass. All good.

The DW2 team does "landscapes" weirdly. (in vanilla those are the pics that show actual landscapes...the ones that show up on the additional colony details screen. In vanilla, they just have one "forest_continental" pic that I think they use for forest, forest mangrove and continental. In order to not mess with the .xml files and make my mod conflict with others, I try and just swap out vanilla files and leave the rest alone. So...no, it's not intended, but it's how DW2 is w/o mods :D
Teranos 30 Jan @ 10:18pm
@salemonz - that would be great!:steamthumbsup:

I have a suggestion for the color of the grasses of a continental planet's landscape. Maybe try changing the grass color to green so it doesn't look like a mountainous area of savana planet?

I noticed that continental landscape is also used to display additional detailed information about forest and mangrove forest planets. Is this how it was intended?

Also the ground invasion maps are quite dark (IMHO). Maybe it makes sense to make them a little lighter?

Thank you for your mods, they definitely make the game more enjoyable to play!
ZumZoom 30 Jan @ 12:28am
I have a feeling that it's working as intended, and I'll just have to get used to these icons (because I will keep the mod for the sweet background images).

@ZumZoom -- sorry to hear that. yeah let me know. I typically work at 2560x1440. My planet icons are 500x500 and the vanilla ones vary in size from 256x256 to 100x100. But maybe the game down-samples mine so they look worse? Let me know and I'll see if I can force some tests to see what's up.

@teranos -- yes I can take a look at that and remove some of the atmospheres in the landscape images.
ZumZoom 28 Jan @ 2:21pm
Cool mod, but icons in lists and overlay seem to be much harder to distinguish than vanilla ones. As if these are lower quality... Maybe it's on higher resolutions? I'm on QHD, will check lower res or bigger interface scale tomorrow.
Teranos 28 Jan @ 10:08am
I really like your mod! But it's pain for me to see the atmosphere on planets like "rocky metalic moon/planet" or "Rocky ice moon/planet", "Rocky silicon moon/planet". Now all planets in the game have an atmosphere which is little unrealistic.)) is it possible to fix this?
