Gosh damn! I've always wanted a proper halo marine experience, but I never expected it could be done in Halo Reach!
I'd love to see other maps with the first person mode in the future, maybe even a daytime variant of this one? It's so dang good!

@solid snake Nah man, what's retarded is being a douche bag to a content creator because you can't read the description.

When I first play tested the mod with him, I asked him about viewmodels too because I didn't know it was a stylistic choice. When he explained to me why he didn't do it, I didn't act all entitled like you just did. I just enjoyed the mod for what it is, which is a homage to the original Ghost Recon game.

Because that's weeks and weeks of work for a side project I don't care that much about.

Playing OG Ghost Recon is what inspired this version of the mod so I just replicated that as much as possible, including no viewmodels.

Dude I cannot thank you enough for this. This mod is fucking revolutionary. The way you made the supression mechanic is fucking beautiful. Was it hard to make? Could you port it somehow to the Campaign? Could you even port it to ODST? That game SHOULD HAVE been like this. It's so damn fun. I don't even like Firefight! And I'm playing it! GJ King

There's no problem with having both mods installed - they use separate folders/files.
The other maps will hopefully come eventually - this version of the mod is lower priority. It's also very tedious to switch over to working on this mod due to how the Halo tools work.

Am i the only one where it's not working when i download it the modded maps doesn't even show up i download the other the normal version while it's there and i still can't play it i can only play the 3rd person versions because it shows the modded maps tab when i download that one but not this one

We leave you alone for a few minutes and you start cooking gourmet again, this mod is flawless and it brought me to those times I played the shit out of Ghost Recon or Rainbow Six 3 Raven Shield when ya remove the gun option.

Man this is really good! Although it's a shame you can't see the weapon in 1st person... But this made me think of something.
One of my biggest complains about the normal Trooper Firefight addon is that aiming feels a bit weird because if there are Marines behind you, they get in the way. And if you're carrying certain weapons on your back, aiming is straight up impossible because the stock gets on your way.

I don't know if this is possible to do but, I have this idea.
Is it possible to have the game on 3rd person, but make the camera switch to 1st person with these reticles when you aim? Kinda like how you can do it in Ghost Recon or something.
I feel that would make aiming down the sights a lot more comfortable.

Again, I don't know if this would be easy to program or even possible at all. But I think it would be a really good addition!

Why make the mod? Because I felt like it.
I love classic Ghost Recon and wanted to quickly make something resembling that in this game.

there's no weapon models. so yea that makes it unplayable. also why make a whole new mod? regular trooper fight is perfect. funny enough my only issue with trooper fight is the 3rd person view. first person is way more immersive. once you make all the weapons have first person models and animations just add the option to switch between 3rd or first person. maybe make custom firefight modes to go with each view. than you could also have the shield beep turned off by default if you made a custom mode to go with it. i never know what health value to set to get a good balance anyway so having a built in unchangeable game mode would eliminate a lot of confusion. i like the idea of first person trooper fight, but it would be a massive mountain to climb considering all the custom weapons you added.

You really have an amazing knack of capturing the experiance of a gunfight/war. id love to see you attmept this for the base reach campagin as our normal spartan and see how you balance that out

@Rookie (ZOE) the reason the first mod was done in a third person perspective is because it was probably Easier to do since you never play as a marine in any of the games so there was no camera to rip from it and there was no player models to rip either thats why most of the marine/odst mods are in third instead of first and just being in third you get to see what you look like so it cool

Even though I don't prefer not having a view model, the fact that it was done to get a Ghost Recon feel is something I can't help but respect. This mod being in first person makes it a complete PTSD simulator, and I love it

Thanks SOOO MUCH for making a version most Halo vets like myself prefer. I'm just not into the less Halo-centric (yes, I know that the third person camera activates for moments like when carrying around a dismounted machine gun/plasma turret or when driving vehicles [except for Halo CE in which the passenger can view through first person as well of course], but other than that, Halo often centers around first person view) third person view camera that this series is strangely focused on for some strange reason outside of the usual third person when carrying around machine gun/plasma turrets or driving vehicles, just not into that when on foot when it should be in first person like usual of course, with the exceptions of the two aforementioned things of course.

Also, apologies for the small text wall, just wanted to vent a little. ^^;

Im late posting a comment, but I had a blast the night we played and the bit I got to play myself.

I love old tactical shooters. I'm glad they get to live on in my favorite sci-fi universe. I haven't played the OG Ghost Recon since around the time it came out, but this is an amazing homage to a great era of gaming.

Also, it's so satisfying to smoke covies like a badass operator.

Yeah It's intentional for two reasons:
I haven't made 1st person models and animations for the 20+ custom weapons.
I was inspired by classic Ghost Recon to make this version of the mod, emulating the movement and weapon mechanics (no viewmodel, just crosshair). I even used sounds from 2001 Ghost Recon for this mod version.

After playing Halo 1 Trooper, I fell in love with the flinch mechanic in that game. it's incredible how much depth and FUN the flinch mechanic added. I hope you can find a way to add something THAT punishing in the future for this mod, as Halo 1 Trooper is the only one with such a mechanic. Its divine.

Great job on the mod, this is something I was afraid would never come to light. The suppression mechanic is SO well done, and theres so much personality you've crafted from just a crosshair. Adding weapon viewmodels would help me understand which weapon I'm carrying since the HUD doesn't update the weapon icon for some weapons. I understand that's a HUGE ask, tho lol

The combination of movement, screen blur, tunnel vision, muffled sound... its beautiful. So well done. The sprint takes me out of it a little bit but that's just Halo being Halo. If you could add a screen bounce / shake while running, I think that would add a lot to the overall experience.

View models are of course possible but it would take a lot of work, animating unique first person animations for nearly 25 custom weapons now.

But after playing so much SWAT3, Rainbow 6, and Ghost Recon I'm pretty used to not having viewmodels.
This version of the mod in its current state is something I made in a day. Lots of things can change though.

Maybe I'll make 2 first person versions: 1 with no viewmodels that is this classic Ghost Recon inspired version with very short time-to-kill, slow movement, dark enviroments, less allies and less battlefield chaos.

Then another version that is literally Trooper Firefight 2024 except from a proper 1st person perspective with proper viewmodels and the same mod mechanics as the main mod.
