This is more of a nitpick, but I think the firing animation might look a little better with some upward recoil, since it only moving back+slightly down looks sorta off

I couldn't tell you for myself. I'm still using Arby26 animations (2nd version) for the weapon (Although I'm using 8siandude's No More Room in Hell Ruger 10/22 [25rd Mag] model while really hoping to see that good ol' animation being brought forward to T.L.S. features, if not figuring out how to do so for myself, especially to give the Hunting Rifle a 15rd Mag, some zip ties or even a suppressor).

I wouldn't worry about the Hunting Rifle too much. 'мяFunreal' for one has already taken a crack at bringing it's (animated) recoil under control:
