Since it is caste based the offspring will be randomized
ParasiticSquid 23 Jun @ 1:48pm
How does breeding work? Do offspring come out a randomized type of procedural dragon, pick one of the parents types to inherit, only inherit the mothers type, or do they come out from traits of either parent?
anyways cool mod i hope its not the one borking my saves though i dont think it is
unrelated but reminds me of the time i saw a guy complaining about a mod not being updated

the mod author literally passed away from cancer several years prior.
Bogrin 18 May @ 4:35pm
this guy had the AUDACITY to make a mod and release it for everyone, then dare post a ko-fi link
eichbeece 7 May @ 6:36am
God forbid a man ask for coffee for sharing his hobby. It's not like we have to give him money to click subscribe
silverbulletsunshine 4 May @ 4:41pm
"I don't care" but you uploaded it and posted your ko-fi...?
Nautilus  [author] 4 May @ 2:17pm
Too be honest I just don't care that much. Modding is just a hobby for me, not a job. So I put most of the effort into making something cool for myself to play with. If I was selling it I would polish it more and do better documentation.
Dolorous John 1 May @ 1:31pm
Dude, I think I understand what this does, but frankly, you gotta put some info here my man.
silverbulletsunshine 19 Apr @ 10:16pm
cool idea... horrible lack of documentation.
Baleur 14 Apr @ 5:27am
Can we get a version thats just visual variety without all the gameplay changes?
Or some detail at all in the description of WHAT the gameplay changes are?

They age faster? How and why? How does it affect world gen?
How does their heart stuff work?
Bro you gotta say what the mod does..
Arcturas 21 Mar @ 7:30am
just want to say that I appreciate how well calibrated this is.

The rapid ageing plus the choice to let them interbreed with each other means I can consistently generate worlds where dragons don't go extinct (because some caves become breeding colonies).

(I don't know anything about balance yet, I have yet to be invaded by one of these)
justin.fitzgibbon 9 Mar @ 10:05pm
Turning into a dragon currently would normally prevent you from butchering, and thus eating.
Did you make a work around?
Amko The Terrible 5 Mar @ 10:41am
No, I checked the raws. I am playing a Wolf Man, I can only go insane, it's pointless. I don't want to change race, either, kinda wish this was documented in the mod description instead of just "hold their magical powers and have interesting effects". Irreversibly changing your character in radical ways sucks in adventure mode.
Nautilus  [author] 5 Mar @ 9:53am
It's random. I think the chance of insanity is only 25% which might be too high, you could also turn into a dragon or dragon man. The insanity thing I added because I thought it would be entertaining if you butchered a dragon in fort mode, not sure if there is a way to make adventures immune.
Amko The Terrible 4 Mar @ 8:27pm
So, are dragon hearts just worse mythical substances? Way harder to get, insane permanent penalty. I was super excited of the idea of the mod and am super disappointed that it's just "eating a heart gives a short full heal but makes you permanently insane"
Dubious 3 Mar @ 7:29pm
I believe a tag like [SPECIAL] can prevent a material from showing up in those places, such as how adamantine never does. https://dwarffortresswiki.org/index.php/Inorganic_material_definition_token#SPECIAL
Amko The Terrible 25 Feb @ 6:02pm
It's neat, at least.
Nautilus  [author] 25 Feb @ 3:58pm
Them appearing isn't intentional since they are not added to civilizations. The new dungeons must just be picking random items from the raws to use
Amko The Terrible 24 Feb @ 11:41am
This adds a bunch of new weapons and armors that appear in dungeons and lairs, is that intentional?
Nautilus  [author] 22 Feb @ 9:36am
No, they are not compatible. My mod replaces vanilla dragons and cave dragons
Nactarune 21 Feb @ 5:26am
justin.fitzgibbon 19 Feb @ 8:41pm
This mod reminds me of this monster character creation project my cousin made. You can add and "evolve" a dragon's organs based on a list of traits linked to that main part, which would then could potentially correspond to any three physical and mental stats. Depending on the trait selected eg. hydrodynamics; the creature gains major or minor advantages/drawbacks. You can compensate for said disavantages by developing it further, but as a consequence it lengthens gestation time. Said gestation time can last potentially centuries. Hence it's a natural self checking system of sorts. I am planning to implement it in Dwarf Fortress or Godot, once I can get a working combat system. I wonder how the existing species would react to such rapidly evolving creatures, as an experiment. Or in contrast to existing pregenerated megabeasts. The system needs rebalancing either-way.

I've will link the Github page if anyone is interested, but I'l warn you that the Python code needs a rework.
Nautilus  [author] 18 Feb @ 5:01pm
I don't think dragon taming is possible in adventure mode, but go up to one and pet it, maybe you will get lucky
Vale 18 Feb @ 11:51am
I absolutely love this mod. Is there any way at all to tame these Dragon in Adventure Mode?
bloopah 14 Feb @ 12:00pm
Oh nice, a Dwarf Fortress mod on Steam with a thumbnail that doesn't have Ai-generated pixel art.
Argie.Goulios(1st GLI) 13 Feb @ 11:39am
Now THIS is a <<fun>> mod
Nautilus  [author] 13 Feb @ 8:26am
They grow very fast in the first 60 years, by year 200 they are the max size of a vanilla dragon, and if they live to 1000 years they are almost twice the size of a vanilla dragon
Flaming Cat 13 Feb @ 1:01am
how quickly do they grow? Vanilla dragons grow rather slowly and I am curious if you have changed that.
CocoBat 12 Feb @ 12:55am
The lua stuff you wanna do sounds awesome, though I already really like this mod, it'll be part of my regular lineup for certain.
Nautilus  [author] 12 Feb @ 12:12am
There scale is not tannable but they would have approximately the strength of iron if you could make items from it. I didn't make it tannable because the colors wouldn't come out right
Nautilus  [author] 12 Feb @ 12:10am
All the mega beast dragons can breed with each other and all the cave dragons can breed with each other.
Dubious 11 Feb @ 5:33pm
If you make leather from their hides, is it better leather or like vanilla where all leather is the same?
LambdaFan 11 Feb @ 4:27pm
Can they still reproduce with each other?
Nautilus  [author] 11 Feb @ 1:45pm
Yes, except for cave dragons which have vestigial wings
Mc_Dyno 11 Feb @ 1:06pm
so can the dragons fly if they got wings?
look behind u 11 Feb @ 11:40am
Thank you so much for this mod, I always thought vanilla dragons were a bit boring
Nautilus  [author] 11 Feb @ 8:42am
They shouldn't appear outside of the object testing arena they just exist for graphics compatibility with my other mod which adds items
Faravid<3Wabuu 11 Feb @ 7:26am
Neat ...
Hot_Pockets_Never_Change 11 Feb @ 1:55am
I noticed this mod adds a number of Items with seemingly no mention of them. Why is this?
Nautilus  [author] 10 Feb @ 4:59pm
there is only syndromes if you eat the dragon heart, it will heal you but could drive you insane, turn you into a dragon man, or turn you into a dragon. dragon men or cave dragons who eat fire breathing dragon heart will also gain the ability to breath fire
𝑭 𝑻 𝑪 愛 10 Feb @ 3:54pm
what does happen if you eat the dragon meat?
Nautilus  [author] 10 Feb @ 3:28pm
if there is enough interest and support I might rework this mod once LUA modding drops to give dragons lots of possible breath attacks.
