the way i have done is ship_repair_at_sea when the trade link is made all ships in the link get repaid at sea

Yo. You mind making the ship repair mechanics a bit more nuanced? So that the more port levels a settlement has, the rate of repair for lesser ships gets increased? Depending on how many damaged vessels are actually inside the port, the rate of repair for the damaged ships can be slowed down? If higher port levels further increase the rate of which smaller ships are repaired (and this scales, bigger ships are repaired slower than medium ships).

movement speed increased battles take longer in trade routs your ships repair faster this means your patrolling fleets can protected your trade routs better
