Hope this helps – and thanks so much for checking out the room! 😊 I really hope you’ll enjoy playing it.
Thank you!
And yes, I completely get what you’re saying about the darkness - especially in the lower hallway. You can turn on some of the wall lamps down there to help a bit. I originally had some low ambient lighting in that area, but it caused lag for some players, so I removed it. I might consider adding it back in a future update.
Thanks again for playing and for your kind words! 😊
I totally get that the amount of text might feel like a lot. I’ve tried to highlight all essential clues in bold so it’s easier to skim if you prefer less reading.
Yes, AI was used for some artwork (like the portraits with gaze directions and the girls/toys puzzle ) - things I couldn’t have created myself - and for editing some texts to give them a more old-fashioned, eerie tone (I’m not a native speaker).
As for the hints, I tried to make them explain the logic behind each puzzle, but I see how they might feel wordy. I’ll definitely keep that in mind for future rooms!
Thanks again - I hope you still had a fun time with the room. 😊
Thank you so much for your kind comment - I’m really happy you enjoyed the room! :)
Great news: Chapter Two is finally out (just published it!), so I hope you’ll have just as much fun with the next part:

Thank you so much for taking the time to leave feedback – I really appreciate it. :)
That’s a great point about having a music mute option. I hadn’t considered how it might affect some players. The music is mainly there atmosphere and immersion – much like the upper floor.
I’m really glad you enjoyed playing the room! :) And it’s fun to hear you liked the light puzzle – several other players have mentioned it as a favorite, too. :)
There were some unintuitive things like the drawer that you have to drag unlike the rest.
I would have liked a button or an option to mute the music; it tends to distract me and drowns out the game's sound a bit.
The upper floor was not important, I think I would have blocked it, although that is a personal opinion.
Overall, it was a pleasant experience; I liked the puzzle with the lights in the paintings .
I’m really glad to hear you enjoyed the room and found it challenging.
Also, big thanks for reporting those glitches! I couldn’t reproduce them myself, but for the ghost-related issue at the end, I reviewed how the trigger was set up, fine-tuned it, and have now pushed a hotfix to help prevent it from happening again.
Super happy you made it through all the puzzles before the glitch hit – it really was right at the very end! 😅
Really appreciate you playing and taking the time to share your feedback!
After we finished the last piano puzzle, the curtain opened and revealed the stairs. Though nothing else happend. No ghost, no moving furniture for the exit. We activated the lamp next to the stairs before doing the piano puzzle. Maybe that messed up something.
Anyway, thank you very much for creating such an awesome escape room!
Especially the girl-to-doll/horse/bear puzzle was quite difficult. Maybe some additional feedback for a partially correct solution would help.
There was one bug with the
decypher disc. After playing around with the rotating upper disc, the object broke. I could not rotate the inner part of the disc anymore. It could not be "clicked". When I changed the general viewing angle by rotating the whole disc (like you can do with any object), the surface of the inner disc flickered and switched completely. The words on the inner part vanished and reapeared depending on the angle. Since it still worked for my friend, we could solve the puzzle.
I’m super proud to share that I’ve just cut down another ~500MB from the room by heavily optimizing the custom models - reducing the overall size to about a third of what it was at launch!
This means much smoother gameplay and better compatibility, especially for players who previously had trouble loading the room.
If you haven’t tried it yet, now’s a great time to dive in. Hope you enjoy! :)
Hope you still had fun with the rest of the playthrough - and thanks so much for sharing this with me! :)
When I completed the piano puzzle and the curtain rose to reveal the staircase, I went to interact with the floor lamp on the side. When it did so, it stopped the animation of the ghost nanny from coming down the stairs to move aside the cabinet, and made it disappear altogether.
Hi everyone! 👋
I’ve been working hard on optimizing The Evil Nanny – Chapter One, and I’m happy to share that the room should now run noticeably smoother.
→ Custom models have been optimized
→ Textures have been reduced where possible
→ Visibility Activators are now used extensively to hide areas that aren’t currently in use - reducing rendering load significantly
This has already made a big difference during testing, but to ensure the best experience, I still recommend:
• Textures → Half
• Custom Textures Compression → Fast
• Lighting → High Quality
If you’ve played the room before, I’d love for you to give it another go and see how it feels now!
Thanks so much for all your feedback - it’s been a huge help during this optimization process. 🙏
I’ve already been using Visibility Activators combined with triggers to hide full and partial sections, but I’m definitely planning to push that even further. 😊
For now, adjusting the graphics settings (Textures → Half, Compression → Fast) can make a big difference in performance.
Thanks again for taking the time to write - and I look forward to welcoming you back to Harrowgate Manor soon! 😊
I’m actively working on optimizing the room. In the meantime, try setting Textures → Half, Compression → Fast, and keep Lighting on High Quality.
Also make sure “Additional Optimization” is off — that setting can actually cause performance issues.
Hope that helps for now, and thanks again for the feedback! 😊
If the room’s a meme now, I’m truly honored ;) - and yes, sleep deprivation is 100% a valid excuse for puzzle mayhem!
So glad you had fun with it, even through the struggle - that means the world to me. 🙏
Also, I caught a bit of your Twitch playthrough earlier today - so fun to watch! I’ll check out the rest now. :) Thanks so much for playing the room with your community! :)
1. The pigeon is on the windowsill to the right of the manor’s entrance. The number is inside the house but visible from outside at just the right angle - maybe it was easy to miss?
2. In the piano room, the rotating ring should respond to each clock time. The minute hand can be a bit sensitive, so I’ll double-check that it’s working as it should.
3. The room is on the heavier side, and I’m working on optimizing it. I’ve posted some graphics tips earlier (Textures → Half, Compression → Fast, etc.) that should help smooth things out. Would love to know what settings you used! :)
Really glad you enjoyed it - and Chapter 2 is just around the corner! :)
Overall the puzzles are challenging and creative and I’m looking for chapter 2 soon
@Nausium - we already chatted on Discord, but I’ll leave a quick reply here too in case others run into the same issues.
As for the spirit letters (spectral sightings) , it’s necessary to sit (crouch) at the four specific locations to see them. I've now added a subtle extra hint in the newspaper article to make that a bit clearer. 😊
Regarding any framerate issues, I recommend setting:
• Textures → "Half"
• Custom Textures Compression → "Fast (Low Quality)"
• Lighting → Keep this at "High Quality"
• Additional Optimization → Leave this off - enabling it may not improve framerate and could even cause issues.
Thanks again to both of you - your feedback truly means the world. 🙏
However, I finished the piano puzzle, the curtain to the staircase opened, and nothing else happened. Wasn't able to finish the room. I also wasn't able to see the spirit letters, and had to use the walkthrough. I was having framerate issues as well (mentioned this on discord) and not sure if that's related.
Again though, great job. Your rooms are always incredible
