French uniforms have now been updated courtesy of ivanfrietas777! I may eventually add some unique player only squads to increase unit variety, but as this mission is such a niche story I do not know if it is necessary with the experience available now in 'Champagne - 1914':thestar:

Thank you so much!

@Hexagoros , it seems like the Gramophone mod has had some functionalities broken and now cannot be turned off. I will remove them and use battlefield FX like in more recent missions. This will increase the size of the mission considerably though. :thestar:

If I could make a suggestions - played as the French, and despite having my Music volume at 0, there was classical music blasting over a starting section of the battle.

Followed the sound to a gigantic gramaphone someone had hidden up in their attic. Tried activating the thing to turn it off, finally tried shooting it. Nothing, just blasting music.

Then i was defending the church graveyard, and music just started blaring again - the same song from earlier. This time the music stopped on its own.

Got pushed out of the graveyard and into the village area, and the music starts blaring again.

I don't know, but this totally took me out of the moment.

@not_hAck3r, I will tweak tickets totally! I might have over estimated how many were needed - I feared that the Germans may end up taking too many casualties during the earlier phases and not have enough manpower to push the final holdouts.

@Malata Societa' Official, There are not tanks or planes used in combat roles during this era of World War One. This is a historic mission and will not include inaccuracies. :thestar:
Malata Societa' Official 22 Apr @ 6:34am
there is tanks and airplanes on historical way of course?

Great map and mission, it really feels different compared to the WW2 missions. Although personally I found 500 enemies a lot as a defender because it takes almost an hour to finish the mission. But nevertheless I loved it! :drewhappy:

Updated to include the Berthier 1892 for secondary units (Medical+Crewmen). I am testing scripted artillery, please comment with any issues if they arise!
BerenOneHand  [author] 8 Apr @ 10:29am
@Delta_ Thank you for coming back to check out the updates! I am very happy to include the 1907 as I believe it fits into this specific time very well even if I do not have colonial units. If Ivan ever adds more variants, then I may branch out into 1916-1918!:thestar:

every time this Mission gets an update I'm pleasantly surprised by just how good this is in terms of game play and Historical accuracy! I wouldn't sweat the addition of the Mle 1907 Berthier as a substitute for the Mle 1890 Berthier either since iirc the only really noticeable difference between them is a 3 round en-bloc clip instead of 5 in the Mle 1907 :steamhappy: I hope you go on to make more Great War inspired missions, you've got a serious knack for them!

@ivanfreitas777, There is a drought of early 1900's artillery for the French, so I have had to supplement their fieldguns for German/Italian ones. Even though the Berthier 1907 was probably not common at all in the Ardennes in this sector in 1914, I would still love to include it along with a proper Modèle 1892 for the officers.

What weapons and equipment do you think are still missing from this mission, that you would like to add?
BerenOneHand  [author] 6 Apr @ 1:23am
A small 67th medical corps has now been added in limited spawns for the French. These men spawn from the Chapel and are only available for however long the chapel grounds are held. I am about at my limits for what to put into this mission. Until we get more french weaponry- this may be it for awhile.:warhorse:

@DUBDUBBUB, Like mentioned by Delta_, there are no grenades in service at this time in the war. The english voices are from the really crappy French Army faction mod. I will update trying to find any remaining squads with that faction!:thestar:
Delta_ 5 Apr @ 8:58am
The only 'Grenades' that existed in 1914 for the French Army were either homemade or antique like the Modèle 1847. Somebody could always make a mod that adds the Homemade types or the Modèle 1847 and possibly even the Kugelhandgranate for Germany.
DUBDUBBUB 5 Apr @ 6:07am
amazing battle, very hard fight, I couldn't just go head first into the objective and had to flank but still found enemy opposition.
however 2 things
give the assault squads grenades at least, so many times a grenade would've been so handy in getting rid of a Mg or group of enemies.
and some of the french speak english, did you leave them an americans by accident?

This recent update is massive with props and tweaks. Sandbag positions are being reworked and now are a whole lot scarier. Some hardpoints now have 3-layer sandbag firing positions that are less likely to be destroyed by the artillery. Germans are allotted suppressive mgs in select spots in order to balance the new protection granted to the defenders!:thestar:

@SnorpMan & @L00tGoblin, Updated mission to buff Germans. There are extra spawns and a few forward mortar spawns. It's hard adding more support in an immersive way. The AI can get through the Hotchkisses alone now in the city. Each mg/series of mgs is flank-able if you can not get enough bodies close enough.:thestar:
SnorpMan 3 Apr @ 12:57pm
gonna be honest cant stand the mg emplacements ai cant advance cause they just get gunned down i cant advance cause i cant see the mg emplacements but they see me clearly and i die before i get anywhere close to objectives
Delta_ 3 Apr @ 6:17am
That's just part of the Vanilla game @SGTKILLROY1944
SGTKILLROY1944 2 Apr @ 10:51pm
hello, i noticed however the Germans appear to be wearing us army ww2 rank insignia ??
Mandalore 2 Apr @ 10:41pm
Also props for including the Gras along with the Lebel. Now we just need the Berthier.
Mandalore 2 Apr @ 10:40pm
Nice to see that the WW1 mods are finally getting proper animated weapons. I love that the Gewehr 98, Gewehr 88 and Kar98 AZ are all included and finally animated. The old version of the Gewehr 98 basically had to be used in third person because it was static.
L00tGoblin 2 Apr @ 6:53pm
Incredible map making skills. Pure perfection. Maybe try to give the Germans a buff? I was able to get through a match without seeing many so the defense is super easy. Great work though.
BerenOneHand  [author] 1 Apr @ 5:37pm
Thanks to all who play! This may not be a one-off, but we will see. I really want to make a mission using the new DLC that will have a similar feel to this one, but with more destruction...:thestar:
axcuagenvu 31 Mar @ 8:52pm
This mission + maps much better than the current Shanghai Nanking DLC.

This is Testament to what can be achieved in ER2!
