The least I would expect from the Kriegsmarine would be that they provide me with some free rations, while I'm sinking half of the British merchant fleet. :SlyNinja:

But even with this mod, the economy wouldn't be a problem at all.

The slow food loading time is to simulate the time the submarines needed to stay at ports for checkups and reapairs

For every 2 days at sea, 3 would be needed to stay docked at port

Budget accumulating too fast is not because food is free.
But because rewards, replacement parts and medkits are too expensive.
Loading a food costs 20 minutes, that is the main cost.
