thanks for answer!

@E interesting, I may look into a way to automatically generate those as options.

Great mod for odyssey gameplay. For anyone using mods that add mineable ores(solar forged steel from Milira, for example): If you are scanning for an ore modded into the game, you might find an asteroid only full of vacstones and not desired ore. Simply editing SpaceMapGenerator.xml to add the modded ores will solve the issue.

8/2/25 Update:
Made the Asteroid Mineral Scanner buildable & usable under a roof by default.
Updated Build Category from Misc to Odyssey
Broms  [author] 2 Aug @ 6:19am
Okay I double checked the mod settings, by default you can always build it under a roof, but if you want to use it under a roof you have to turn on the mod setting. Enough people are asking me that I'm just going to make it always usable under a roof by default.
Broms  [author] 2 Aug @ 4:21am
@Neunmalkug you can just toggle the mod setting.
Neunmalklug 2 Aug @ 1:22am
pls let me build it under roof ;)
Broms  [author] 1 Aug @ 2:53pm
I'll fix the default mod setting when I am back home tomorrow.

@ everyone, I had the same issue where it wouldn't work roofed or not. If you go into the settings and check usable under a roof it fixes the issue.

This mod has been absolutely game changing in the best ways. These discovered asteroids are so much richer than the average ones. Love it!!

I did a devmode test and it seems like, at least with my modlist, seems to always believe it's under a roof. even on a map with no roofs existing. not sure if this is the mod itself or something in my list, but that was what was going on when I made my previous comment
KittyShipperCaveGirl 1 Aug @ 10:59am
do you need to be in space to use the scanner?
mabyraho 1 Aug @ 7:17am
how much space it needed to not be considered under a roof? placed it in same place instead of working long-range scanner and apparently it under a roof.

Thank you! glad you enjoy it

Hello Broms. That's an interesting mod.
So I created a mod " Asteroid Mineral Scanner_zh" that adds a Chinese translation for your mod and published it on the workshop. Thank you for your contribution! Keep on keeping on!:dslike:

The vanilla orbital scanners are passive and random, plus the asteroids are massive with few resources. This mod is an alternative to long-range mineral scanners but in orbit.
0ddbase 31 Jul @ 3:14pm
dont base game orbital scanners already scan for mineral rich asteroids? ableit it is only 3 kinds being uranium jade and gold for some reason

I was having trouble getting the PlaceWorker for forbidding buildings being placed under a roof to toggle with Mod Settings so I left it on by default (vanilla long-range mineral scanner has this set to forbid building under a roof by default). However the WorkGiver that permits pawns to actually work at the console was working & toggling via mod options just fine so I let it be that way for now.

Are you saying that by default it is letting your pawns work at the console under a roof? Or by default you can build it under a roof and your pawns cannot work at it?
Puppyguard 30 Jul @ 5:50pm
Hey, for some reason the mineral scanner defaults to being underneath a roof! You have a mod option to fix it at least, but might be something you wanna fix.
Sumatris 30 Jul @ 1:20pm
Awesome, thank you! :-)
Broms  [author] 30 Jul @ 10:38am
Good catch Sumatris, I forgot to remove the random chance from these sites being discovered, they should be more in line with the Long-range mineral scanner only sites now. Pushing an update.
Sumatris 30 Jul @ 10:21am
Is there a way to reduce the likelihood of these asteroids spawning as random asteroid-related quests? The last half-dozen or so asteroid quests I got were all your asteroids - no hidden bases, no Anomaly asteroid, etc.
Broms  [author] 30 Jul @ 4:51am
You're welcome, I thought it would be a useful addition. Everyone likes to play their own way and it was fun to learn how to do the mod settings.
Shimmer 30 Jul @ 2:13am
Thank you for the update! \o/
firefox456 30 Jul @ 1:09am
here's something that should have already been put in vanilla in odyssey
Broms  [author] 29 Jul @ 10:35pm
Mod Settings added. You can allow yourself to scan from under a roof if that's interesting to you. It is off by default and can be changed during gameplay, no restart required.
Broms  [author] 29 Jul @ 6:57pm
Added custom artwork to the mod! Artwork credit to Manman666 from the Dub's Bad Hygiene discord server. Next update will have mod options for being usable under roofs (default: off, same as vanilla long-range mineral scanner), minimum average time to find (default: same as vanilla), and the days to guaranteed find (default: same as vanilla).
Broms  [author] 29 Jul @ 6:07pm
@Sumatris yes that is right, it is a separate building.
Shimmer 29 Jul @ 1:48pm
@Sumatris

Sure, but the option the let them stay inside is nice.
Sumatris 29 Jul @ 1:07pm
@Shimmer: To be fair, if you have the tech to mine asteroids, letting your pawns operate a scanner in vacuum shouldn't be an issue. It's literally just a matter of their outfit.

@Broms: Did I understand correctly that this is a separate scanner building, not merged with the standard scanner?
Shimmer 29 Jul @ 10:09am
That's awesome to hear, thank you!

Just the fact that you can get asteroids that function in the same way as the vanilla mineral scan sites is enough for me LMFAO, would just be a nice QoL option.
Broms  [author] 29 Jul @ 10:05am
I can look into a Mod Setting that would make it usable under a roof. I'm swamped with work and stuff so I can look into this tomorrow.
Shimmer 29 Jul @ 10:00am
Would it be possible to have a version of this similar to Odyssey's scanner? One that doesn't need to be operated, so you don't need to send you colonists out into the vacuum of space to operate it.

Either that, or one that works under a roof.
Broms  [author] 28 Jul @ 8:19am
Cool mod ideas but those are outside the scope of this mod.
Spess Merhreen 28 Jul @ 7:36am
Absolutely love it.

idk if possible, or another mod, but a cool idea would be to have an upgrade to the long distance scanner so it can
- Search for mineral rich asteroids
- Search for long distance minersal
- Search for Deep minerals (Spawns a frozen or volcanic map in a Far distance with asteroid rich levels of material in themap)

Mostly thinking a volcanic or frozen and astoid map for it could keep things interesting.
