This is amazing, with the somewhat expected 'downside' (upside for some?) that pretty much any pawn set to hunt/fish turn into a middle aged dad who never does anything but sit by the waterside with his rod in his hands.

Thank you for letting me know @vertigo! Will fix.
Dragonofelder 6 Aug @ 7:28am
I feel like some pawns shouldn't treat it as recreation. That might involve traits, or reading existing pawn traits. So maybe not

fyi your PublishedFileID is incorrect. It points to an unlisted/nonexistant mod.

I seriously dont get what the devs were smoking. Fishing is literally one of the most chilling hobbies but I guess Tynan never went fishing.

Maybe his brilliant book has it explained

huh ha!

I think thats why it normally does not in rimworld dahaka, in rimworld its a neccesity for survival in some colonies. Except the game can't or does not bother to detect when it cleary isn't. Could be a cool idea for a whole ideoligion meme though. Fishing has the big problem of how long the task takes which is why this mod is a neccesity to make it worthwhile without getting false mental break reports. It also is stacked with hunting and like hunting checks for animal skill without making that obvious to the player (Shows pawn has passion for shooting in the tab). A fisher with level 20 animals gains 2/3 extra fishing speed on top of base speed. It might not even give animal experience either.
Another solution could have been to freeze the mood like it does with sleeping unsure why odyssey did not do that, maybe too exploitable?
Anyway thanks for all the options Nebula

Honestly you should add the same to hunting, while it was a necessity in the past, nowadays its a type of recreation.
Proxyer 3 Aug @ 11:46pm
Thank you for quick update!
Sha-Bomba 3 Aug @ 11:46pm
Love this mod! If they're going to fish then they should definitely enjoy it and I greatly appreciate you creating this.
Maybe depending on character traits it effects whether or not they enjoy it or not?
But that's getting pretty nit-picky with it. 10/10 mod in my opinion
NebulaBlade  [author] 3 Aug @ 10:20pm
@proxyer I have updated this mod to include all language translations.
I have added a shoutout to you in the about description :)
Thank you for your contribution!
NebulaBlade  [author] 3 Aug @ 9:04pm
@proxyer That is awesome! I was going to use ChatGPT to translate it. If you've already done the translation, then I'll just add it real quick to the base files asap. Thanks!
Proxyer 3 Aug @ 8:33pm
Thank you NebulaBlade.
Fortunately, I have already created a translation sub-mod that adds Japanese translation and released it on the workshop (under the MIT license).

It is as follows:
[1.6] [Sub-MOD] Fishing Is Fun add Japanese Translation

@Proxyer Okay, great suggestion! I can definitely do this request. Do you have a preferred language that you want me to prioritize?
pug 3 Aug @ 5:57pm
HELL YEAH! Thanks for the mod!
Proxyer 3 Aug @ 1:07pm
Nice QoL mod! I would like a translation key for the mod options. :lunar2019smilingpig:

Honestly, with this mod, and the addition of fishing in the base game with 1.6, sea block colonies just became a whole lot more viable.
Bizz 31 Jul @ 7:37pm
My fishing colony thanks you.

I love this, especially with all my hunters doing nothing but fishing 12 hours per day unless I specifically forbid them. Might as well have some fun with it.

In terms of new recreation type -- you could probably create a new recreation type that doesn't give you any fish (or gives very little fish) , isn't dependent on hunter stats and is available to all pawns. The real fishing can still give a small mood and/or recreation buff as a nice bonus but not as much as recreational fishing.

It makes sense imo -- some people who fish for fun do it just for the process and release the fish or just don't bother trying very hard, so there will be less or no resource gain. On the other hand, being pressed to fish as a job (whether you enjoy it or not) and knowing that if you fail, your colony won't have dinner, probably makes fishing less enjoyable than doing it recreationally.
VitaKaninen 31 Jul @ 9:24am
Thanks for the great mod!
NebulaBlade  [author] 31 Jul @ 9:13am
@VitaKaninen I agree, could be an unintended side effect of making a new recreation type.

I love the idea of making it configurable, I'll add it to my roadmap, maybe even have it added in by the weekend. Thank you for your attention to detail :D
VitaKaninen 31 Jul @ 9:10am
I can see people wanting it both ways. Adding a new recreation type makes the game a bit easier, but then again, it is also locked behind research. If you added a new recreation type, and they could choose to fish whenever they wanted to, even if they were not assigned to it in the work tab, it would bring in a lot of extra food for no cost.

It would make the game easier, but I can also see a lot of people wanting that. Maybe you could give options so that people can choose what they want.
NebulaBlade  [author] 31 Jul @ 9:00am
@VitaKaninen There is no new recreation type, it passively gains JoyKindDefOf.Meditative (meditative, solitary). To clarify, it doesn't increase meditation it's just the type.

I'm totally open to feedback if you think it should gain a different type of recreation! :)
Latex Santa 31 Jul @ 12:52am
@Vulkandrache
It's a relaxing activity to many people.

I mean, I agree with you. Personally, I find it to be tremendously boring.
Not having anything to watch on TV and being bored enough to watch that show "Rex Hunt's Fishing Adventures" on Discovery Channel in the 90s, was one of the dullest time periods I ever spent as a child.

But other people find it to be an activity that relaxes them and puts them into a sort of meditative trance.

There's all sorts of people, really.
Vulkandrache 30 Jul @ 11:54pm
How? Because fishing is really boring.
VitaKaninen 30 Jul @ 11:41pm
Does this add a new recreation type? If not, which recreation type will gain an increase in boredom while fishing?
