@Tuna Melt: Thank you, nice to see I could be helpful. :)

Just one thing: The correct pronoun should be "Die Weihnachtsmütze". It's "der Hut" (male pronoun) but "die Mütze" (female pronoun). I know I know, genderization of German pronouns is confusing because it's kind of random... *cough*

Brilliant, really enjoyed your name suggestions and have made some changes accordingly. I'm going to keep the Santa theme as for me it holds a special meaning (born on Christmas Eve and named Nicolas) and connotations beyond just Christmas day. Although it may not be grammatically the best choice I actually prefer the current hat name over Weihnachtshut, the item could be considered a winter cap right?

Would like to thank you again for contributing your thoughts here, you are exactly the type of knowledgable chap I was hoping would respond! Please let me know if you have any further suggestions.

* The entire set: "Der Renaissance-Mann / The Renaissance Man(n)"
* The hat: "The Chimney Sweeper"?
[note: It's definitely a "Hut", not a "Mütze" because that word would translate to a cap or tuque.]
* The coat: "The Rottenburgher"
* The boots: "Die Nikolausstiefel"

Frankly, I would call the costume set "The Renaissance Man".

But if you want the Smissmas connection, I'd go for a reference to Sankt Nikolaus (a.k.a. Saint Nicholas [UK], Sinterklaas [Netherlands], Santiglaus [Switzerland]), the old Bishop Nikolaos of Myra, the 4th century Orthodox saint whose holy day is the 6th of December, who became the basis for the whole "Santa Claus coming down the chimney and giving gifts" thing.

In Germany, children are still told to clean their boots and put them outside in the night to the 6th of December so that Sankt Nikolaus can fill them with sweets and nuts. (Naughty children used to get birch roods and coal.) Traditionally, the gifts on Christmas Eve were brought by the Jesus child. The whole American invention of a jolly Santa in a red hat with helper elves only spread due to American movies, causing some confusion in German children.

Hey Knusperfrosch, thanks for sharing your opinions it's interesting to hear your point of view. I agree that poorly thought out puns are very jarring, but equally I feel like a good name can really make an item shine. The real difficulty arises when trying to think of a clever pun in unfamiliar languages, and there is a danger of causing offense through misunderstanding.

Really just trying to avoid overly simple nomenclature, I would find Santa hat and Santa Jacket pretty boring, but agree that is preferable to a terrible pun. The best name I can come up with for the boots is Golden Bälles, and honestly that is pretty bad lol. Cheers!

@Tuna Melt: Not everything has to have a pun name.

I have nothing against *smart* bilingual puns, but I'd rather have a normal item name than those cringeworthy garbled pseudo-German items names that were in fashion back during the Summer Update 2013.

I prefer the coat with the class symbol emblem to the one without.

The whole ensemble reminds me of a 17th century Renaissance burgher's attire. Genteel and stylish. It fits in nicely with Medic's quaint old-worldy hometown of Rottenburg (as per the MvM map, and real world Germany's town of Rottenburg with its half-timbered houses). So it has staying power beyond being a "Smissmas-themed" item set.

I hope this makes it in as the full three-piece item set.

Oooooh, I love old-fashioned-style Medic outfits. I NEED THIS!

I like it, it's fancy and old fashiond, not my kind of style but it would be nice to see in game

Wow, im actually amazed how well done this set is!
I love everything except for the one without the emblem, I love it!

Hey thanks. My knowledge of the German language is non-existant. If you (or anyone) can think of any good puns for these items, please let me know. Cheers! :demoticon:
