LeoTehEpic 2.3 im haveing the same issue as exe who commented "started The Holy Days but it crashes with this error message" how do i fix it

leotehepic 2.3 i went on legacy version and it doesent work but i found away to somehow get the legacy version running but holy days still does not want to work

@Prismattik you need the legacy version. In Steam, right click TP, select settings, go to betas, and select the legacy beta. From there, install the old Laser Colors .gro file that was posted by Barrymead, then you should be able to play this map in modded The Talos Principle. If it still doesn't work, there's an additional issue I can't fix.

Additional Laser Colors:
This gro file works with the Legacy version of Talos. Just click on the symbol that looks like a down arrow pointing into an inbox to download it. Put it into the steamapps/common/The Talos Principle/Content/Talos directory and it will behave as though you were subscribed to the map.

Hello,
I can't seem to be able to run this map. I am on legacy version and additionnal laser color is installed.
The log says: "Cannot open file Content/Talos/Databases/TalosCollisionTable.ctbl"

We've just finished all custom map except this one, it's quite frustrating :)

This is the legacy version, you need to select the legacy version from Properties > Betas > Legacy pre-SE2017 version. From there, also get the "Additional Laser Colors" and the Prototype DLC.

Game tries to start, then errors out. Foe me , it says: "can't find Content/Talos/Presets/Shaders/BatchedParticles.mtr" I've never been able to get this game to work for me :(

Has anyone managed to get it working on the current version of the game? The legacy version of Talos crashes upon launch, so sadly all the exclusively pre-2017 mods are unplayable to me.

From the Steam/Library/The Talos Principle/Poperties/Betas tab selector, select the
"legacy - pre-SE2017 build" selection. That is the one that these files go with.

As far as I can tell, they are no longer gonna do the next update with backwards compatibility, at least until they release Serious Sam 4. Is there any way you could upload an older version of the map that works on one of the versions available?

Jesus fucking Christ it's always BatchedParticles.mtr. OP has the map released in closed beta so you won't be able to play it anyway. Just wait until the next update.

There is a closed beta in the testing for this game. For the purposes of testing out if the workshop submitting and whatnot works (it does btw), I have updated this mappack. Once the patch is released (likely in the new year, because everyone is on holiday right now), this map will work again.

I edited some files, now I have a new errors:

Content/Talos/Models/Xmas/Textures/Yodl_House_NM.tex texture uses outdated normal map encoding, please recreate

Content/Talos/Levels/Z_HolyDays/HD_Cloud_Xmas.wld: Type 'CPuppetEntity', format 1579: Current format is 1577, the file was saved by a newer version of the application.

I can't play the map due to this second error. The first one I replaced it with the CM Yodl file, but the second makes the map unplayable and I can't edit it. Could you please help?

I get an error any time I try to open the map. "Content/Talos/Levels/Z_HolyDays/HD_Cloud_Xmas.wld: Content/Talos/Presets/Effects/BowlFire_Big.pfx: Cannot open file Content/Talos/Presets/Shaders/BatchedParticles.mtr"
Anyone know the cause or solution?

Barry asked me to take a look at that, the issue is that in Test_FourArrangers waiting for all the barriers to open doesn't wait for them to open at the same time, you need to check that manually. There are a lot of different ways you could fix it, here's how I would:

I think that is also some obsolete design from back then. Can't fix it right now as I'm travelling for a week but I'll take a look after. I haven't played talos for such a long time anyways.

Solais: I don't know if it always worked this way, but in the puzzle "Blow the Roof" in the bonus world, you can activate both the Red and Blue light sensors by the central sigil gate together, then after removing their light sources you can activate only the Yellow and Green sensors by the sigil gate and the gate will open. I originally assumed that all 4 were required at the same time to open the gate, and there are enough resources to make that happen. I am not sure if this staggered pair behavior is by design or accident, but I thought you would like to be aware of it. The attached video link illustrates this staggered receiver activation gate unlocking scenario.

Yes It works, I used cheat codes to get to the bonus world more quickly, and when I grabbed the sigils the metal gates by the star now open! Thanks!

Ah that makes sense. The original bonus world was made still during the beta of Talos, a month or so before release, so it used old scripts still. They were still compatible after release, but I guess some patch changed things. Will fix it then.

The issues in the bonus world come from the scripts "Test_Stargate" and "Test_LoweringGate", both of them start with the following line:

local tetrominoInstance = tetromino:GetItemInstance()

This is no longer a function, (cause I think linking a tetro now links to it's item instance?) causing the scripts to error and never lower the fence. You replaced the scripts in the main level with the normal LoweringFenceWhenTetrominoIsPickedUp script, but not those two.

I've made a quick patch which will overwrite the broken scripts with working versions if you place it in [main Talos folder]\Content\Talos, but it'd probably be better for you to change the scripts to point to the new one directly.

I too like Ranamo Puzzles precicely because the authorr used very cleaver puzzle design to challenge the player. I don't think that I would choose the term "Cheap Tricks", however to describe Holy Days. In my opinion the author went to EXTREME LENGTHS to create a season themed festive world that does not resemble anything created before or since. While it shows its age primarily due to changes to the game engine that were out of his control, I take my hat off to the author for his excellent contribution to the Talos Principle gaming community. I only wish we had a dozen more authors as dedicated to detail as Solais.

Thanks! Though I do have to agree with some people that my puzzles are really not that good. I originally wanted to do more, but I don't really have the brain to make different sorts of puzzles - or more like, I always strife for "new" stuff, so I rather wouldn't make puzzles that have too similar solutions to already existing ones.

Have a look at Ranamo Puzzles. Those are challenging by way of clever design, not cheap tricks.

djalchemea: It has been a long time since I played Holy Days, but as I remember there is a place where you can stack up two cubes, and get a running jump to the top of them from the rocks. From the top of the two cubes, you can jump over the wall of the star cage to claim the star. Then to get out of the star cage just jump out near the back on the left side onto the rocks.

@Solais Thanks for your response and again for the awesome map, having dipped in and out of TTP for the last three years I've noticed how patches change things and break some of the custom campaigns. How frustrating for the likes of you who put in so much effort only to have it messed up by CroTeam

djalchemea: I was never able to get the bonus map star gates to open no matter what order any of the puzzles were solved in. And I NEVER RESET OR DIED though the whole game and the gates still stayed closed. There is just a bug in the script that opens these gates, and the editor is so complex that even the author has trouble finding/fixing it. But it does have a solution without resetting or dieing if you stack up two boxes by the rocks you can jump into and out of the star cage even with the gates closed. These boxes can be broken out of the level "Blow the Roof" without too much trouble. Just stack up a stair case near the fence and climb onto the wall and you can get two of the three boxes out.

To be honest, I don't know what would be it. This map is kinda old now and I don't remember how I did them. It can be also that some patch changed something since then. But I remember that you only had to do those two puzzles without reset, and that's it, no matter the order.

Thanks Solais for a truly excellent campaign, a wonderful gaming experience. Having read through all the comments (especially from Barry Mead) I really appreciate the hard work you've put into fixing bugs. I have played through the entire puzzle including bonus and appreciate your "fixing" the "cheats" by removing the fan by the rocks and installing the invisible wall to prevent cheating on Christmas Tree. I did not experience any issues with Christmas Tree Blue laser connectivity despite solving Red and Green first, but I did manage to solve ALL puzzles without reset and still no joy on Star Number 4 gates. They remain steadfastly shut. What did I do wrong? Is it something to do with the order that I solved the bonus puzzles or do you need to solve both puzzles without claiming the sigils first?

I appreciate the work that went into this and enjoy the puzzles for the most part, but I'm not a fan of just arbitrarily sticking mines into maps for no reason other than to make things tedious. The one with the 2 fans had literally zero reason to have a mine in it, it didn't add to the functionality of the level at all, didn't create a puzzle by blocking lasers, it just existed to make you wait for no reason. I'm up to the xmas tree one now but ragequit after a couple of deaths. Just trying to get the bearings around the cramped map and you can't even stay put for more than a couple of seconds before being killed by one of the 3 wandering mines. Unsure yet if they actually have a function in the final solution, but if they don't then it's super annoying to include them.

To end on a positive, I enjoyed the one with all the cubes, it was fun.
