As for the lack of updates, I mostly just made this mod as an exercise. At current, the Nightlight is still kind of weak in DST, since Nightmare Fuel is so hard to get. I do like the idea of making the fuel more efficient, though I think the way I'd go about this is to have the light simply turn off and stop burning fuel except during the night, similar to the Pumpkin Lantern.
I reviewed your code and i didn't like the way you are overwriting standard.lua files, because this will break sooner or later especially in heavily modded environments like on my server ^^.
Also i wanted nightlights to be able to carry more fuel and/or being more fuel efficient but on the other hand your mod does also reasonable improvements and, because i didn't expect you to answer here, i made a fork for my server and here is the result:

I hope you don't feel offended because i used the same pictures.
Maybe we should also merge those together now, what do you think?
Now for my first time, i will actually try to make one.
If this mod is so powerful that it causes you to seriously consider building the Night Light at some point, it's done its job. I still think it's kind of debatable whether you should spend 8 gold and a red gem for it. I'd certainly spend the first red gem on a Fire Staff instead.
At any rate, even if you somehow get close enough to be affected, the sanity drain on the nightlight is extremely small anyway. Even if it worked properly it wouldn't change all that much.
