good long dark map! 4:04:43 112% Completed for solo run..
It was a great idea to light up the surroundings with a broken lantern! :steamhappy::steamthumbsup:

Where are the zones to place the medical boxes and toxic materials / cryogenic waste? Also, what are used as fuses for the fuseboxes? I had to use lanterns cause I couldn't tell what the fuses are supposed to be.

i like the whole puzzle mechanic! althought it seems like fuses ten to explode alot

This was great! Loved having to restore power to get a few lights and open doors. Even then the low power and use of lanterns really made the atmosphere spooky! Great detail in every room and the layout was fantastic. Another one to add to my favorites. Great work! Thank you!

dude i took 4 hours to finish that map with a friend

Just finished playing this map, and regret not playing it sooner!
I assumed it would be another Penumbra map, and am quite happy I was wrong.
Ended up being one of my favorites.

A nice bug free map.

Tips: you can pre-break the lanterns by smashing them on the inside of the incinerator and they won't make a mess. Also, the sniffer reacts to the new 'fuses' but they don't seem to affect the final score - still finished with a 102%.

Map is too large. It would take at least a day to complete.
CarThief  [author] 17 Jul, 2017 @ 12:17am
There's several throughout the level, i think, lighting one of the flares at the starting area might help searching for one. With some stumbling in the dark you should be able to find a office-like area with lanterns, and there should be a item vendor somewhere too which can dispense lanterns.
Wgairborne 16 Jul, 2017 @ 8:48pm
where do you get the lanterns?
Gator 26 Aug, 2016 @ 7:47pm
Cool map, fun to play, not SUPER confusing, however whenever I try to insert a latern into the fuse box, it instantly explodes. Regardless if its intentional or not it's very irritating having my latern explode and have to clean it up every time.

@CarThief

Alright thanks, I'll even try with the broken lanterns and see if that even yeilds a different result.
CarThief  [author] 18 Aug, 2016 @ 1:40am
Uh, well they just kinda get overcharged and blow up anyway when put in there. But it'll take both broken and un-broken lanterns, they both work. And the level should brighten up a little (still dark, but atleast you can see things then), after you power up the other fuseboxes. And maybe put a lantern of several at those dark spots.
wolfdrums 17 Aug, 2016 @ 7:37pm
To the people who are saying "this is too dark" or "this is overused"...quit your whineing and clean, use lanterns, and shut up and turn up the gamma.

As for the level itself, I like the concept, but problem is the fuses will not stop exploding no matter how many times I try to use the fuseboxes to help. Interesting gimmick, but it seems set where it bugs easily, and I cannot play this level since I can't even get the gates open with lanterns explode every single time.

Great challenge with this dark map! Endorsed :vcdblood: :vcdbucket: :vcdmop:

I dont like dark maps. You cant see what to be cleaned
Salted Salt 1 Jul, 2015 @ 8:34am
Dude show this to the devs
WitchBunCeri 26 Apr, 2015 @ 3:55pm
very nice map, it's layed out well, and the darkness is a cool gimmick. it's also very well optimized, it never seems to go below 55 fps for me.
DeathByToast 6 Apr, 2015 @ 7:06pm
Completed in ~6 hours, 100%. Great map man! Now I gotta go get some coffee...
DeathByToast 6 Apr, 2015 @ 3:44pm
Warning: Takes way longer than 2 hours, even with 2 dedicated cleaners. No bugs found though c:

Spooky

I thought this was a pretty good level. Decent size, had a really interesting and fairly well-implemented gimmick with the fusebox thing. My only suggestion would be to move one of those two big crate stacking areas near the start of the level to near the middle, like next to the bin dispenser. I had a massive crate pileup trying to move all the crates in the first half of the level back to those two stacking areas to be organized.
Drragen 16 Feb, 2015 @ 5:39pm
What are the solar flares for?
Beed28 10 Feb, 2015 @ 10:18am
I opened them using the switch (though it wasn't obvious at first), but they ended up exploding when I tried to fit them inside.
CarThief  [author] 10 Feb, 2015 @ 7:44am
Oh, and did you open them with the relevant button pad near them? Sheesh, having an edit option wouldn't hurt in here, i keep forgetting things. :P
Cant put a fuse in without first opening the fuse box. Might as well update the description somewhat, to prevent further confusion.
CarThief  [author] 10 Feb, 2015 @ 7:41am
Hm, you're saying, if you put in a broken or un-broken Lantern in the box, it wont beep, turn green, and either power some lights or a door, or both? They all power something, wonder if anything went wrong during the download, or its some weird kismet error i'm not familiar with.
Beed28 10 Feb, 2015 @ 7:01am
Hmm, I tried the other fuse boxes, and they turn out to be all "fake".

Which makes cleaning the map impossible since you can't get the gates open.
CarThief  [author] 10 Feb, 2015 @ 6:48am
That was intentional, but they do work, broken or not. There's a page somewhere that kinda describes that, but i suppose that may be confusing to some. Hm...

But yeah, if you put in an lantern it should go green and it should power something. Story-wise, the reason they explode is because of exessive electricity, technically, it is just a Water Volume, inside those boxes. :P
Beed28 10 Feb, 2015 @ 6:40am
It's a good concept, except... the power boxes don't even work . The lanterns blow up immediently when you try to insert one in, and it happened every time I tried to insert one.
True Sergal 9 Feb, 2015 @ 3:00pm
@STARRYSOCK I didn't expect anything. I commented to offer critique and a simplified opinion on the map. I'm not some special little snowflake who wanted his post to be recognized. It's the highest-quality 'darkness' map of the 3 we currently have, but it feels very overdone simply because lack of lighting in an unreal engine game generally points towards laziness. It's what I'm used to seeing, even if that's not the case with the map.
CarThief  [author] 9 Feb, 2015 @ 2:48pm
Blah, there's no Edit button, so... I'll make it quick, i forgot to mention, the reason your Lantern melted was because of the fire, fire can destroy objects (or melt them), if touched repeatedly by fire, it drains an item's HP just like an Incinerator would, until they disappear/melt.
CarThief  [author] 9 Feb, 2015 @ 2:45pm
Yeah, that can happen, that's why i added the Welder in a room available from the start, so that in that event, you can melt it into nothingness. Fortunately it's not a very common event as far as i'm aware, and it's avoidable, but the Welder was a just-in-case thing.

I suppose the map is doing as advertised, i'm not sure if you mean VCD/maps in general, or this map, but neither can be helped, they are as they are. If darkness in general bothers you, perhaps bump up the gamma level, works wonders for me. (If you dont mind the map losing some of its lighting-based atmosphere, anyway.)
socco 9 Feb, 2015 @ 2:39pm
"VCD is a great game. The concept is good, and the mops and buckets make sense, but the overall 'cleaning' theme is overused."
It's a level that specifically states "the main gimmick being darkness," not one dimly lit room and everything else to be bright. I mean, what did you expect? :/
---
I had a lantern melt (into one of those piles like it was hit with a laser welder) once when I put it in the fuse box, and then get stuck in it. I'm not sure why, but you might wanna look into that.
True Sergal 9 Feb, 2015 @ 3:01am
The concept is good, the lantern fuses make sense, but the overall 'in the dark' tone is overused.
