I'm happy to say I have a layout which mostly works when using the canal systems, but it requires alot of extra stone for both the canals and the kazillion wells I use to both provide good water sources and aesthetic appeal. it looks pretty good, especially with the "New Medieval" mod and the Japanese Houses/Facilities Mods. I make "districts" using the canals to outline them, which can be bad in the beginning (as it puts the work locations far away from the homes until major expansions) but overall its been enjoyable to test out ways to use this mod. XD I wonder what else this would work well with. I've been having alot of fun recently trying to make my towns both efficient and good looking.

That sucks, it really does work well for decorating the town, but I generally don't have the space clear to make it spacious (for design).

I've mostly made them to make the towns pretty, but I guess it take some planning to set-up something that won't jail a citizen. Unfortunately, this mods is 3+ years old and I do not think that I'll be able to change it as I don't seem to have the original files anymore.

I noticed that if a person is inside a closed canal system they cannot walk out, even though people walked over the canal up until the point in time in which they finished building it. They walked over the finished portions too. I feel like it would be more useful then wells everywhere, but if the people can't walk over it easily its kind of hard to intergrate into the town.

There are a few active Banished modding forums, the one i used to go was the CC one. As far as i can remember tho, Banished is really limited to what you can touch. Don't hesitate to go ask the people there.

There are other canal mods iirc, ain't like i can monopolyse it!

Alright, thanks for getting back to me I really appreciate it. If you cannot find it or know that it is indeed gone, would you mind if I took you're idea and added more too it? I've never done mods before, but I am very good with programming (I do a lot of unity development and programming in general). I do quite enjoy Banished but feel like it's missing a lot of content.. Their are many mods that add more content but I'd really like more content that involves water and other stuff that has yet to be explored.

@Maal Hey I read your post from Feb 24, 2015. I was wondering if you could post a link to the source code; I wouldn't mind updating it for you to add in the firefighting feature. I really like this mod idea, but feel it could bring more to the table other than being a nice decoration. I also think I could add more than just the firefighting feature into it. I believe I might be able to add other features to it as well. :steamhappy:

looks ok but you can't build over it (bridges) so you effectively cut access to one side of the canal if you build from lake to lake. maybe a better name for it would be moat.

I'm not a programmer, i'm a 3D artist. I'll take me 10 times more time to find how to get the thing to load in-game properly than to model/map/texture/occlusion the whole model (the canal is simple so it's even faster). I used the Well template when i made the canal, but after deleting and modifiing the code files dozens of times i probably deleted the firefighting part in my attempts to make it work. I'll add it back eventually, maybe, but i have several buildings to make for CC and those take priority.

@Ardith The modding tool is really limited. There is no way to help the crops grow faster or else i would have done it already. I was planning on making them work like wells but in the process of making them work at all the firefighting part vanished. I'll look into it more eventualy.

@Nynzal Maybe one day. Wouldn't be hard but i'm working on something else right now.

River are on a lower level (-0.50) and all buildings are SET to flatten and to be built on ground level (1). The only way would be to create some large weird shaped pieces that totally ignore the terrain and it's own footprint, but since the shore are fairly chaotic we would need severals of those so it doesn't look horrible. Not to forget that i can't animate it so the waterfalls wouldn't move. This is why i made the end piece tunnel like.

I saw somebody use the tiny shack from CC near a lake and then build the canal our of it. The shack fill the whole tile square so it doesn't look bad as a sort of water pumping house.

An use? Such as? Making it a job would be crazy as you would need to man every single tiles. Boost production of nearby farms? Not doable with the toolkit.

It was made to simply touch up your cities and make them pretty. Banished is fairly shallow if your only goal is to make an efficient city, copy past the same 8*15 farms and houses pattern while pumping the firewood industry. Imo, making a good looking city WHILE keeping it sort of efficient is the long goal.

They'll walk through it if they have no other choices. I may add a bridge piece but they'll ghost through the piece instead of walking on it.
