FX Galaxy has got lots of new stuff but is still pretty much vanilla
I haven't been following the mod development scene for a while, so I am surprised there aren't any decent mods for Homeworld Remastered after all this time. I agree about vanilla Remastered; I didn't enjoy the pace and game balance of it at all.
The attempt required a lot of work, too overwhelming for one individual to do most the heavy-lifting. Because the RNG system for weapon hits was changed in Remastered, a lot of files would have to be re-balanced from scratch. New script features had to be modified to work, but the biggest obstacle was getting custom ships and their textures into the Remastered engine and being able to edit them as HOD files (Remastered assets were locked-down unlike HW2C assets). Many things would have to be redone from scratch. It's a doable project, but a daunting one for a mod like TFS with so many new interconnected parts.
did got a random crash to desktop after a few games.
NVidia frame-limiter seems to have fixed it --Free-sync in client smooths it out but causes "hitches" every so often (due to no pre-rendered frames interval, I believe? My NVidia is at interval 1 which usually fixes things like this IME)
It's always more or less smooth with just a few small units unless they;re zoomed way in on big ones (like Battlecruisers and larger) so yeah. This engine is probably over 20 years old, after all.
Thanks, mate.
No, I can't recall seeing choppiness in HW2 classic. Which reminds me, I should play the classic campaign again.
My first guess would be vsync. Try disabling freesync and using a frame rate limiter instead; there is a built-in FPS limiter in the Nvidia control panel.
Does unit movement look choppy at the start of the game? The game slows down when there are lots of units active in the game due to engine limitations. Is unit movement choppy in vanilla Homeworld 2 as well, or just TFS?
Just one small issue:
I find that unit movement --IE, the motion/manoeuvres/turns/whatever the models themselves do, not the response to commands-- when you zoom in close (IE, focus in on one or a squad) is very choppy --It's especially apparent when you break focus on the unit, and it moves away from/off camera.
Does this come with the territory, or is there a fix.
Spec/Settings:
O/S: Win7
Core i7 - 3770k @3.5GHz
GTX 1070
16GB RAM
Hardware is a bit old, but sound as far as I know
Monitor native-resolution is used (1600x900)
Shadows off, per the requirement to avoid artefacting
All other settings High, or On depending which
VSync is on client-side, native refresh is 60frame/sec (rock solid per my FPS counter)
Given that it's his IP, I'm not sure there's much we can do unless he changes his mind."
