I feel like there should be a strait between Zeeland and Den Haag since you removed the land connection.
Also, the strait to Prince Edward Island seems to be located in the wrong province in Nova Scotia.

The thumbnail image was made in 2015, and I've never bothered updating it. It reflects the state of the vanilla province map at the time.
DerBarenJude 30 Apr, 2021 @ 1:59am
hey does anyone know how to get that Egypt panhandle shape shown in the thumbnail?

Hi! Love the mod but the swedish lake "Storavan" is miss named with another lake, the lake you have named Storavan is actually "Akkajaure". Storavan should be more to the south and larger.

Thanks for your update !!
and I'd like to ask you why not to use the old world_normal.bmp ?
bizarcasm  [author] 5 Dec, 2020 @ 12:41pm
@Jonas: Fixed those province borders to more closely match vanilla. Province 1248 (The Maldives) are hollow because they are actually atolls. Them "disappearing" is deliberate.

@Crysocyon: Fixed Lake Kyoga issue, it now has it's own province. Nowadays the Shebelle river only actually joins the Juba river in the event of a major flood, hence why it tapered off. While I can't find much information about it's early modern history, I've decided to connect it on the a basis that the climate in the region was wetter pre-1800, and the river less heavily irrigated.
Crysocyon 30 Nov, 2020 @ 5:56pm
Also the Shebelle river in Somalia should drain into the Juba river but right now it disappears right before it reaches it.
Crysocyon 30 Nov, 2020 @ 5:53pm
Because Lake Kyoga is not its own province and rather part of Lake Victoria, Bunyoro can fabricate a claim on Karagwe at game start despite Bunyoro not even bordering Lake Victoria and being multiple provinces away from Karagwe
Jonas 4 Nov, 2020 @ 6:31am
If u zoom in on prov 1248 the island disappear
Jonas 3 Nov, 2020 @ 1:55pm
Prov 84, 13 and 6 have a few linear border lines that look a bit weird. Looking forward to updates (:

Major update!

Coastlines have been completely redrawn for the recent upscale.
Added 40 additional lake provinces.
New heightmap.
Implemented high altitude lakes
Implemented high resolution colors and normalmaps.
Tweaked trees and terrain maps.

Yes, as well as coastline, Some lakes(like DongTing Lake) and rivers(Yellow river) need to be rework if you want to do better. Many thanks for your mod and looking forward to your update!!!
bizarcasm  [author] 22 Aug, 2020 @ 11:19am
You're talking about the Chinese coast, before the Yellow River shifted north, right? Honestly, I think I just forgot to update it when I moved the Yellow River back in 2014. I'm working on re-working the coastlines after the recent upscale, so that will be fixed for the next major update.

Incredible Mod !
I have noticed there is a great difference between this mod and Meiou&Taxes's map(It was still based on your great mod)in the coastline, why not use the coastline map of the fifteenth century ?
bizarcasm  [author] 8 Aug, 2020 @ 1:29pm
This should result in a province map you can load in the game with the new version. There will be some slight distortion to your provinces as a result of the upscaling, but it shouldn't be too bad. The worst part comes after this: every graphical position on the map needs to be re-done, which is a nightmare if you have a lot of new provinces. You might be able to find somebody with a tool or script that can recalculate most of them for you, which is what I did. Even then, there was a lot of stuff I had to use nudge to fix by hand.
bizarcasm  [author] 8 Aug, 2020 @ 1:29pm
Up-scaling the map itself is actually fairly simple. Open your province map in your preferred image editor. Resize the image to be 6400 pixels wide, keeping the same aspect ratio. Use either "Nearest Neighbor" (Photoshop) or "None" (GIMP) as the interpolation. This should give you a 6400*2618 image that preserves all the color information accurately.

Now we have to crop the map slightly, because 2618 pixels high is not valid for EU4's engine. We need to crop it to be 2560 pixels instead. However, in order to keep the map in frame properly, the cropping has to be offset. You need to crop 6 pixels from the top of your map, and 52 from the bottom.
LeRoi6 6 Aug, 2020 @ 7:26am
So bizarcasm, I'm pretty stoked about the upscaled map, it has a lot of potential. However there are a lot of mods (mine included) that use the Typus Orbis Terrarum map as a base, and trying to up-scale seems near impossible without starting everything over. I'm curious if you found a trick to simplify things a bit? From what I understand, if we want to use the larger map we'd basically have to redraw everything.
bizarcasm  [author] 28 Jul, 2020 @ 6:49pm
Basically all of the files can just be resized in your preferred image editor with nearest-neighbor scaling. The rivers map won't work because rivers need to always stay 1 pixel wide, and will need to be re-drawn. The map size will need to be divisible by either 128 or 156 pixels. I don't know the size limitations. I'm afraid I've never tried modding Imperator, so I'm not really sure what is necessary to make maps work for it. Different Paradox games have different rules about this kind of thing, so you'd be much better off asking in the Imperator modding community for details.
Pluvi 28 Jul, 2020 @ 5:18am
hello master bizarcasm, I want to make a mod for Imperator Rome and I thought I could use your map. However, Imperator's vanilla map is 8192x4096 and I don't want to use a smaller map Is there a way you can help me? Maybe teach me how you made the map bigger since last week so I can make it even bigger? Thanks
bizarcasm  [author] 22 Jul, 2020 @ 7:40pm
Sure. DM me and I'll send you a link to the old build. Or, if you have an account on the Paradox forums, you can ask me on Typus' thread and I can post it there.
I Eat Pain 22 Jul, 2020 @ 5:09pm
Is there a way to revert to before Jul 18th up-scaled version? I'm in the middle of a campaign documenting it with maps, and the new projection doesn't fit. I really like this mod, but this change came at the wrong time for me.
Brave Sir Robin 18 Jul, 2020 @ 6:37pm
I haven't done any gameplay yet, but at least on a superficial level, the larger map looks good. I did notice that the Balearic Islands' text still has the issue I mentioned, but apart from that, the text positions are better.
bizarcasm  [author] 18 Jul, 2020 @ 10:49am
The up-scaled version is now complete! Or at least, ready for play-testing. The map is now 6400x2560, making it 14% larger than classic Typus, or roughly 10% larger than vanilla in terms of province size. I've redrawn the rivers map from scratch, and fixed the positions for everything. In addition, I've modified the defines so that all travel times roughly match vanilla. I have not modified any of the colonial/trade range modifiers, so it's possible that might cause some issues. Please let me know if you encounter any bugs, I expect there might be some new ones introduced by this process.
Pluvi 17 Jul, 2020 @ 1:39am
Can you add Lake Tuz/Tuz Gölü? It's in Ankara/Turkey
Brave Sir Robin 16 Jul, 2020 @ 11:20pm
Oh, neat. I didn't know that that the maximum map size got increased. Is it a significant difference? I know it'd take a lot of extra resolution, but I'm wondering if it'd be possible to get detail on parity with the Some What More Historic mod from Crusader Kings 2. I really appreciate the defined coastlines and lakes in that mod. Although I do worry that making the map that large would interfere with the calculations for things like colonial distance and troop movement. I suppose that you might already have fixes in mind for that. In any case, some extra resolution would help with the selection of some of these tiny provinces they've been adding in Europe. It's been getting kind of finicky lately.

I hope things go well with your plans, regardless.
bizarcasm  [author] 15 Jul, 2020 @ 11:22pm
Thanks! I've fixed most of those with the most recent update. I'm also working on a larger up-scaled version, since Paradox raised the maximum map size with patch 1.29.
Brave Sir Robin 13 Jul, 2020 @ 4:42pm
Very glad to see an update for 1.30. There are a few positions issues regarding text placement that I'm immediately noticing, though. Memmingen, Constance, Regensburg, Stuttgart, and Nordjylland are overlapping other provinces. Finnmark does to some degree as well. Zadar just looks a little strange, and the island provinces of Rügen, Cephalonia, Lesbos, and Chios could do with having the text moved alongside them like you've done with Venice and Corfu.

It was from a different update, but when the Baleares and Hebrides were split into multiple provinces, the text wasn't adjusted. So You have the Outer Hebrides and Majorca with text alongside them while their sister islands of Inner Hebrides, Minorca, and Ibiza don't, and it looks strange.
bizarcasm  [author] 25 Jun, 2020 @ 6:27pm
Thank you, I'll be sure to fix those in the next patch.
Seleuceia 21 Jun, 2020 @ 10:53pm
Army locations for Gran Canaria and Caracas are both too far west while the army location for Guanipa is too far south - probably just need some nudging. I suspect there are some wrong army locations in Newfoundland based on watching some AI armies move, but I haven't colonized there yet so I'm not sure. I will update with more wrong army locations as I continue playing.

Thank you for keeping this wonderful mod up to date!

Hello, I'm the lead dev for Mars Universalis. We're wondering if we could use your farmland terrain textures (and meshes, perhaps), along with any others that you've got working which don't work in vanilla. You specifically mention tundra and impassable mountains. Of course you would receive full credit. If you could explain to me where the terrain textures are in files, that would also be immensely helpful to me, I'm not a very experienced map modder. Thank you

zombiekiller, extended timeline uses this map

Will this ever be compatible with Extended Timeline, because I find the geographic inaccuracies, especially the massive eye sore in the North Atlantic, really fucking annoying and irritating.
