I mostly used DS wikia for the stats and proper names, it's more organized than looking in game's files. I will try to finish the final version of this mod if I get my hands on it and make it super simple to edit values of any food items. Hopefully this month.

hey mate, i try to make my own food overhaul to make the game a bit more challenging by removing the healing from food items for example. could you help me and tell me where to find the relevant food item files in the data? cant really find them at all and would be happy if you can help me :)

Some time ago, I was working with my friend on a version where you can simply open text document and set any food value you want for any kind of food item. Although I got bored of the game and lately I'm too busy to finish the mod.. I want to get to it, but there are much more important priorities at the moment..

Can I recommend the idea of just removing food healing all together? It would encourage the use of health regeneration items, tents, etc. to regenerate rather than just having a bunch of food to heal you.

seems to me that Foliage (that spawn in caves) buffed too much, since on every corner its spawned this mod turned from trash laying around to quite good pick up for hunger killing, i would make it that it would give 1 hunger instead of 2, that way still being garbage but with benifit.

the balance of the food now seems like it just part to recharge hunger meter, while it gives some cute increase of health and sometimes sanity, meat balls spam continues..

That is strange, since any food that a bird can eat has 1 to 3 chance to drop you an egg. If you give it 9 seeds, it should statistically give you 3 eggs and 3 guanos..

Don't you receive ANY eggs even after like 20 tries? Then there must be some other problem.

I really do like what this mod does, but the only thing I don't like is how impossible it now is to get eggs.The birds I catch, to the best of my knowledge, do not eat any sort of cooked fruit or vegetables. When fed raw fruits and veggies they only give seeds plus the seeds for that specific food item. Either being able to feed birds meat to get eggs needs to be put back in, or the chances to get eggs needs to be uped drastically. I really do like this mod, but now this also makes birdcages quite useless since I can never, ever get eggs to make crockpot food that needs eggs or gunpowder.

Unfortunately, no. As a client, I can't enable the mod (it only shows up under the Server Mod list).

I tried adding

"all_clients_require_mod = false
client_only_mod = true"

to the DST Food Overhaul modinfo.lua just below "api_version = 10", but that caused DST to crash upon logging into the server after I enabled it in the Client Mod list.

@IcyTheWhite So, it's a disconnect caused by the dedicated server. I play on the same machine as the dedicated server, but because my client and my server are different install paths, I have to enable this mod on my client as well.

Nadav said it used to poll the server for the recipe values, but it was too buggy so it was changed to use the client values instead.

Interesting. I went to test it out and it does show it properly for me. It predicts goop when I try to put in ice. Are you sure that you don't use any other mod that could be tweaking Crock Pot recipes as well?

@IcyTheWhite, its the Stick/Ice filler changes. It doesn't correctly predict the outcome; I've had it predict Meatballs and gotten goop instead. I can memorize the changes, but the purpose of the mod is to not have to memorize such factors.

Ohhhhhhhh. I misunderstood. I thought you meant when you fed the bird meat there was a 1/3 chance of it dropping an egg but you couldn't feed it meat. Thanks for helping me out for when I use this mod!

I have waiter 101 and when I used this mod with it, my game crashed when the DST day ended. So my guess is that it is not compatible

Well, I'm not sure. I haven't tried that mod yet (so I guess it needs to be tested out).
If Waiter 101 does fiddle with default values of foods and Crock Pot recipes, then they might conflict each other in some way..

If you really want berries and carrots give such low values, just open the mods folder (in the DST directory), find the mod no.430349285, open the modmain.lua file in notepad and edit the values by yourself.
But remember that each time you open mods option in the game, it will reset your values to default (since it synces up with Workshop every time). To prevent this you would have to make an actual renamed copy of the mod and unsubscribe this one. :bbtcat:

Yes I agree you have done a great job of balancing the foods and making the recipes that were bad useful :). As for the difficulty that's fair enough. Would it be possible to make a hard mode configuration where the berries and carrots give less hunger stats? I honestly think everything else is pretty perfect.

Well, I don't dare to go lower that 7.5 with berries, just to be respectful to other players, because not everyone enjoys the game to be too hard. All I'm trying to do with this mod is to balance out the foods and make each one useful and unique in some way..

For the berry and carrot stats in dst the recipe balancer mod puts berrys at 3.1 raw 3.1+1 health cooked, carrots are standard (in 1 player rog they are set to 6.3 but I think it was set to normal for dst to compensate for more players. however ive just had a 2 player game with a friend and we didnt have any problems). My opinion on what the stats should be is 3-5 for berries raw and the same stat with +1 health, carrots at 6-8 raw and same stat plus 1 health. Maybe a bit harsh for some but as I mentioned earlier I like that you cant run around exploring for the 1st 10 days to find the perfect spot to set up a base. What do you think?

I like the fact that the chance for an egg to be produced has been reduced, not so keen on the specific seeds being produced every time, I Iike the chance to get a specific seed more it drags the selective farming out a bit, but it makes perfect sense to get x seed from x veg or fruit, I just like the game a bit harder as im sure you have gathered :P.

How much lower though?

Right now carrots give 10 hunger (12.5 default) and berries give 7.5 raw, 10 cooked (9.375/12.5 by default).
Although I was considering lowering cooked berries to 7.5 as well. Will see how it works and how it affects some crock pot recipes...

Anyway, I'm really glad you like the mod. :bbtraccoon:

I have been really enjoying this mod :) I have also been using the recipe rebalancer mod and I can say that both have good aspects. I think that your mod affects the later stage of the game whereas the recipe rebalancer mod affects the earlier stage of the game. I would say overall that I prefer this mod but I do like that berries and carrots have much reduced hunger in the recipe rebalancer mod, it gives you a timer to set up your crock pot and just generally makes the early game harder. What are your thoughts on dropping the hunger for berries and carrots?

@IcyTheWhite: And why exactly do you need to do that? Hunger values can be set as anything you want. The hunger stat on characters isn't even a fully rounded number anyway, it only displays a rounded number, your hunger actually drains on the decimal level.

What exactly is preventing you from setting hunger values to a specific value? Because there shouldn't be any problem with it in the engine.
