Actually, my theories for Wilson's tiny arms is:
- He's probably wearing gloves; being a scientist; his hands have to be protected in some way.
- He probably has puny arms; his arms are small because he probably doesn't exercise.
- His arms are hairy; which is plausible; he is a man after all.
- Shirt sleeves. Some shirt sleeves have extra sleeves (one short, with an inner long sleeve)

The arms are just scribbled on. Remember, Wilson was the first DS character, and they haven't changed his look too much since. Look at official Don't Starve artwork, mainly the Gmoose teaser for RoG. His arms are normal, and skin-colored.

Not sure but been seeing some fan made comics where he ends up losing his arms and has them replaced by some shadow creature.

I don't think those are sleeves and it doesn't have to do anything with the art-style, those are rubber gloves, he's a scientist.

I never under stood the black arms. I know its part of the artstyle but...........what are they? Gloves? Under armor? His hairy arms?
I never understood them. I guess the only people I excuse them for is Webber, cause he is a spider and Maxwell, cause he became a demon.

@ConnorTheWeary, I'm glad someone explained this better than I could :) If you look at Maxwell's playable character and NPC variants, they both share Wilson's inverted arm palette. As you said, this is probably a relic of Don't Starve's original artstyle. I only noticed this, and made a mod to correct Wilson.

The default looks nothing at all like gloves.

It's just a matter of Wilson being the first character made. It was way back when the art-style was more morose, and sort of reminiscent of the art from Lemony Snicket's "A Series of Unfortunate Events." (try google imaging, it's pretty similar to the early art of DS) It's inspired by Victorian aesthetics.

Maybe the black on his arms was hair. It sounds stupid, right? Well, think about it. He does grow a beard when the other characters don't.

I agree with the glove idea, but, personally, I'm envisioning more "Dexter's Mom" gloves, except in black, because he uses them for science instead of cleaning.
Still, I can appreciate the motives of the mod author.

wilson was his normal name he did magic and then he wanted to escape cause he was going to lost like 100.000 bucks and so he escaped and changed his name to maxwell
