Most things I bought as a kid came from the Consumers Catalogue. Great work!

32,000 tris for such a simple building?

32,000 tris is waaaay too complex for a growable :( Any chance you can reduce it to something like 6,000 tris?

3ds Max can probably do something similar but sifting through the interface is a pain.
Thanks for the info on the preview! I didn't know about the naming restriction.

Now to spend the next hour buried in drop-down menus.

@Domatee You can add text to a model in Blender, then convert it to a mesh and extrude. Not sure how 3ds does it though.

When you go to save your asset, click the folder icon in the snapshot window. It will open a folder where you can drop your snapshot. It has to be called PreviewImage.png and be exactly 644 x 360. TPB has a guide in the Workshop on how to do this.

Ah, that makes sense. What program are you using to make these models? 3ds Max by any chance? I've thought about adding 3D texts to some of my buildings but I have no idea how to do that decently. (Also how do you get custom snapshots to stick)
Room360  [author] 6 May, 2015 @ 8:47am
@Domattee It's all in the logo. It's an extruded mesh of text which is why it's so high. The building itself is only around 300, if not less.

So what's with the tri count?

I remember that company. We had one not too far from where I grew up. We also had a Green Stamps store and a Service Merchandise. The Green Stamps store would be a place to redeem tickets you got at a supermarket or gas station that gave them out. My parents got some nicely made cheap end tables and a lamp back in the days from Green Stamps. Service Merchandise was a bigger outfit that sold consumer goods, and I purchased a few computers, gadgets and even some furniture from them.

Thanks for the memories! ;-)

Heh. Now we need a CompUSA to put next door. Or maybe a Circuit City.

I do remember going to the store and looking at all of the displays and then ordering the iten(s) for home or for the kids and then paying and then waiting for them to come from the warehouse room. It was somewhat magical and was fun for all of my family. Thank you for the asset and for the memories.

Another fantastic piece to the collection. Lee Valley kind of carries on the tradition, but I remember shopping at CD with my parents. Thanks so much!
