Airline/sealine follow tours are brilliant, what a detail.

Good to know. I am also apparently blind or illiterate. Maybe both? Probably just lazy.:lunar2019grinningpig:
MrMiyagi  [author] 17 Mar, 2021 @ 7:51am
Oh, actually, I specified this in the beginning of this map's description. ^^
MrMiyagi  [author] 17 Mar, 2021 @ 7:50am
It doesn't require the theme. Actually no themes are actually required for any maps or saves. They can be safely skipped.

The first time you start a new game it will pop up with "Warning: the map theme is not loaded. Do you want to use a default theme?" Click yes. Tadah! Vanilla. After the first time you save, that notification box will no longer appear.

The use of the word "warning" is melodramatic. :steamfacepalm:
AgentX2006 16 Mar, 2021 @ 8:54am
This is still in your Vanilla Maps collection but is no longer Vanilla as it requires a theme.

Building dams in this game is really tricky. You have to keep trying to find the right spot (without clicking the dam to finish it) until you find the right combination of height and location to get the desired MW.
Also, a lot of variation happens with the flow of the dam (and thus the power level). They added the variation in the AI I guess to simulate reality.
Udders Malone 6 May, 2020 @ 9:44pm
Tried building a dam, but It would be built, than filled and would work, But I would get a maximum of 1256MW. Then it would keep on going up and down so I would get like 20MW sometimes and 1256MW other times. I tried rebuilding it a few times and waiting but nothing happened.

Awesome! Welcome back, Ozymandias! :)
Ozymandias 10 Feb, 2018 @ 9:43am
Well look at this! Just as soon as I decide to finally fix my broken Cites, my favourite cartographer updated my favourite map! You're the best, Mr. M!

Cool!

The best Emerald Coast is the one on the Florida Panhandle, where our sand is white and our water emerald.
MrMiyagi  [author] 20 Feb, 2016 @ 5:35pm
Also, here's another way you could have them, without any mods. I made three roads with the lined trees on them. You use them in game to make the little lines of trees. Much easier! Look at the top three items in this list of mine. If you subscribe to them, you will find them under intersection

Hi there, this is a *really* old map. I do have a nicer map that does have these built-in trees, all over the map actually!. You will need the Network Extensions mod for this map, but it is a fantastic mod. Gives you lots more roads and is a well maintained mod. Take a look and see if you like it. It is in Wales, so the looks are very similar to this one :) https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=532282617&tscn=1455998637
TangerineSpaceRaptor 20 Feb, 2016 @ 11:53am
there are no trees on the coast like the icon shows. Why? Also nice map btw.
MrMiyagi  [author] 17 Nov, 2015 @ 10:37am
Oh no! I'm sorry about that. I did read that the dams release water at different rates, depending on the power demands of the city. I guess if the city has a high demand, there might be some really bad water overflows :( So on a side note, I wonder why they even make the dams that way.. if it floods cities on *this* map, it's gotta be really awful on flatter maps!
Also, if you'd like to try this map again, there are newer versions of it, where I did some changes to the river cliffsides. You might have a better time with that one. https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=449069079&searchtext=emerald
Andropedia 17 Nov, 2015 @ 9:14am
The map itself is beautiful, but I werent able to build a dam that would flood everything downstream. For some reason the damnes always get overflown periodically. >_> I ve tried the highest, some lower and completelly downstream positions. Also multiple dams don't work me.
MrMiyagi  [author] 2 Aug, 2015 @ 3:54am
No problem, halliejopo! I am really glad it worked for you! :)
FrouFrouYeti 1 Aug, 2015 @ 8:04pm
Thank you so much for replying! I ended up having to delete all of my commercial zoned land, but once I put in newly zoned commercial, it ended up being fine.
MrMiyagi  [author] 1 Aug, 2015 @ 6:16am
PS you don'T have to unsubscribe from the custom vehicles, mods or assets to test this, on the start screen's content manager, just go to each thing and click the blue box for each to turn them off temporarily. Sorry for long reply!
MrMiyagi  [author] 1 Aug, 2015 @ 6:14am
So, there are many factors that can cause problems with the game mechanics, sometimes not even our fault as players... Apparently there's even a mod that will trigger this after a certain population level is reached! (See 2nd reddit link). Mods (obviously) and even some assets like vehicles (to my great surprise!!!) have been causing algorithm problems in the game. Not long ago there was a beautiful custom car that caused traffic from outside to stop completely at a certain point! Any custom cars, trains, planes or ships?
Anyhow, the only thing that would cause a problem like this in a map would be if we didn't make highway, rail and sea connections for you to use... which would mean you wouldn't get any trade via the missing connection. It's also impossible to publish a map without them...
So I hope this is helpful, and don't hesitate to ask more, I just learned a LOT more I didn't know by helping you here :)
MrMiyagi  [author] 1 Aug, 2015 @ 6:07am
Hi halliejopo! Those sorts of algorithms are not programmed into maps, but I am glad to try to help you because it gets a little complex. This happens to me, too, but in all my cities across maps. For me, in the beginning there's a HUGE demand for commercial, and then a huge crash with abandoned C buildings. Then a little later comes another crash in commercial demand and unemployment. After my population gets to a certain point, there are either not enough educated workers, or too many educated workers. It's frustrating to figure out the balance.
1- Here's a basic tips guide, in case you haven't seen this: http://www.reddit.com/r/CitiesSkylines/comments/2z1maa/a_small_guide_on_how_to_prevent_buildings/
2 - Here's a thorough discussion of MANY different possible causes and solutions that goes far beyond the simple guide above. I just learned a LOT from this one: http://www.reddit.com/r/CitiesSkylines/comments/2yv3k0/commercial_buildings_abandoning_due_to_not_enough/ more coming...
FrouFrouYeti 31 Jul, 2015 @ 10:15pm
Is it just me or is there a major bug in this map? Despite there being demand for commercial zones, no one is taking any jobs in commercial; all the commercial zones are being abandoned while I play this map, and I've never had this problem before. (Beautiful map, though).
MrMiyagi  [author] 15 Jul, 2015 @ 5:52pm
No problem, Jones! Hope you have a good time with the maps!
Jones 27 15 Jul, 2015 @ 4:14pm
its beautifull. thank you very much.
Crow 27 May, 2015 @ 4:20pm
same! XD @Ozymandias lolz
MrMiyagi  [author] 21 May, 2015 @ 12:19pm
No problema at all. Ozymandias!
Ozymandias 21 May, 2015 @ 9:44am
Oh I will! Thank you very much, MrMyagi! You're the best!

@Ozymandias Hiya, well I went ahead and painted the landscape as well :D Hope you have fun with it! https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=446387393
Ozymandias 20 May, 2015 @ 2:08pm
Thank you! Now that I've figured out Steam's screenshots, I'll take a few pictures of the town!
MrMiyagi  [author] 20 May, 2015 @ 2:04pm
No problem! Give me about a day (it is now night here) and I'll be glad to :) Maybe I'll put more trees down?
Ozymandias 20 May, 2015 @ 2:00pm
I do like the colouring, but I can live without it. A European upload would be very appreciated.
MrMiyagi  [author] 20 May, 2015 @ 1:21pm
PS if you don't mind, Ozymandias, I could also do the European map without all the colouring. It wouldn't take so long to do so. :)
MrMiyagi  [author] 20 May, 2015 @ 3:28am
Ugh. So I have some bad news, @Ozymandias. When I export the heightmap and reimport it into the European theme, all of the painted terrain... well, it loses all that resource "paint". It was a ginormous amount of work to do that, I think I might go mad if I have to go through that again. This map really wouldn't be the same without the painting Tell you what. I am working on a two new maps that are similar in the Irish-like green, rolling terrain and beautiful views. One will be painted. I'll give you a hint: they are found near Rohan ;)

Do you know how to export my map and reimport it, so you can alter it as you like? Feel free to do so! Essentially, it's more important to me that people have fun with my creations, rather than being territorial about them, as if there's some sort of imaginary copyright. I'm no corporation lol. I'll help if you don't know how
MrMiyagi  [author] 20 May, 2015 @ 2:58am
HAHA There is no such thing as too far, Ozymandias. If you feel like it, feel free to share some screenshots
Ozymandias 19 May, 2015 @ 8:44pm
Thanks MrMyagi! I started the Busy Town of Clonrichert on the Emerald Coast map. I future-proofed the main highway near the start with a turbine interchange and a couple of roundabouts at each end - one at the start area, and another in the oil patch. I planned on putting a rail station in the middle of each one. I may have gone a bit too far.
MrMiyagi  [author] 19 May, 2015 @ 6:41pm
Hehe me too. I will be more than happy to do so.
Ozymandias 19 May, 2015 @ 5:09pm
I hope you plan on making a European biome version of this map! The Emerald Coast was the first thing I thought of when today's update was released!
MrMiyagi  [author] 18 May, 2015 @ 4:32am
@Colten The DankEngine thanks! I hope you have fun with it
Crow 17 May, 2015 @ 3:57pm
wow just.. wow
MrMiyagi  [author] 9 May, 2015 @ 3:24pm
@jrbaytown awesome!! I'm glad it's working for you. I think the best thing of this game is being able to share between fans. For me, it's almost more fun making these maps and assets than actually playing :D
jrbaytown 9 May, 2015 @ 3:07pm
@MrMiyagi, thank you so much for the detailed response and photo. I've got it working perfectly now, providing lots of electricity. I appreciate the time you've spent creating this beautiful map! It's much appreciated. --ross
MrMiyagi  [author] 9 May, 2015 @ 6:03am
@jrbaytown Hi there. I made a "how to" image and added it as the last image up above. So if you're "standing" in the beginning square and looking at the waterfall, purchase the next square, the one that gets you closer to the waterfall. Then, the last bit of that square has the entrance to the gorge specifically raised and smoothed out to fit a dam of whatever height you wish. Apparently the narrower (yet taller) dam that you have, th emore power. This is why it is so high, and why I have the water flow set so high Let me know if the new picture helps Experiment using a new game and with unlimited money, so you can learn how setting up a dam works in game. I read that it is a really complicated part of the game.
jrbaytown 8 May, 2015 @ 5:00pm
Thanks for the awesome map and especially the ability to add a dam. My only problem is locating the exact spot in your dam photo of where the dam should go.;)
MrMiyagi  [author] 6 May, 2015 @ 3:00pm
@Ozymandias - sounds great! Post some screen shots if you like, when it gets going. Will be great to see!
As for the curve, I think it would do it in real life for sure, but I was just driving (in first person mode) testing out my newest map (not yet published), which has some insane hairpin mountain curves... well let's just say I'm glad I didn't eat before driving. :D No slowing down at all! Anyhow, if it does cause trouble let me know
Ozymandias 6 May, 2015 @ 2:53pm
Also good suggestions for the names, but one of the small islands on the coast will definitely be named Craggy Island. Maybe Rugged Island, too.
Ozymandias 6 May, 2015 @ 2:48pm
Ok, I've taken a look, and I have one more comment - last one, I promise! There's a sharp curve on the main highway which looks like it may slow down traffic, causing a truck bottleneck. Other than that, IT'S PERFECT!
MrMiyagi  [author] 6 May, 2015 @ 1:37pm
LOL!!! That's a funny name. Well @Ozymandias, the inspiration is from the edge of the Dingle Peninsula in County Kerry, Ireland. The most beautiful place I've ever been. Here's a wikipedia of lots of common parts of placenames in Ireland. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Place_names_in_Ireland
You could make your own name by adding one of these prefixes or suffixes. Like...
Glen+___ means "valley" Glengarry, Glendalough, Glencoe
Kill+___ means "church" Killarney, Kilkenny
Inish / Inis +___ means Island Inishmaan, Inisheer,
etc etc...
NZ_Wanderer 6 May, 2015 @ 11:44am
@Ozymandias - how about Emerald City :)
