Perfect difficulty would be: Increased damage for you and enemy. Decreased health for both you and enemy. Less ammo can be carried and found. Enemies unaccurate at long distances but accurate at close

Yes because bullet sponges = fun

Is it possible for the author of this mod to make a dropbox link to the mod files? I'd rather do a manual install, because the mod disables whenever I exit the game and load a save.

This game is hard for me since I keep trying to play it just like the first one (Run out rambo style fast paced yknow)
djcj 9 Jun, 2016 @ 3:01pm
I'm replaying the game on hard difficulty with this mod enabled and to be honest it's still not hard enough for me (with the exception for the black ops). I sometimes feel like the enemies aren't aggressive enough, at least the grunts are often staying in a certain area instead of following me. And I think the damage taken from grunts and some weaker enemies should be higher.
Wayfarer 25 Apr, 2016 @ 6:41pm
I tried lowering enemy health, but then the headcrabs in unforseen consequences killed a bullsquid really fast. But I found a tutorial for properly managing the files in the custom folder, and now i've even got a spiffy blue HUD!

Also, it's a good idea to save a back-up of the original skill.cfg, in case you (accidentally) mess up a value and want to set it back to a default.
Keltur  [author] 25 Apr, 2016 @ 6:04pm
This mod modifies values in the skill.cfg file found in the Black Mesa\bms\cfg folder. If you're making a mod for yourself (i.e, not putting it on the workshop) that modifies this file, you don't even have to bother with VPKs, packing and what not. You just have to open the skill.cfg file with a text editor, make your changes, and save it. You don't even need to close the game--just type "exec skill.cfg" in the console after each time you save your changes to the file.
Wayfarer 25 Apr, 2016 @ 5:47pm
How did you pack the folder? I'm trying to make a mod for myself that makes it easier, as the enemies seem to take a lot of hits.
Elevna 12 Jan, 2016 @ 9:09am
INCREASE the difficulty? THIS GAME IS HARD AS FUCK
WE NEED A MOD THAT MAKES MARINES EASIER TO KILL
Abdul 22 May, 2015 @ 12:07am
hey thanks, now I will resubscribe to this mod!
Keltur  [author] 21 May, 2015 @ 11:50pm
I'm also kind of tempted to make the tau cannon and gluon gun do more damage, since it's also not possible to get headshots with them either (which you could in the mod version).
Keltur  [author] 21 May, 2015 @ 11:47pm
The crossbow should now be able to one-shot vorts, grunts, and assassins, as it could previously.
Abdul 21 May, 2015 @ 10:02pm
you shoudlnt need to get a headshot with the crossbow, you should only need body shots. For headshots you have the magnum.
And please dont get me wrong, I like this mod, I just think it is a bit unbalanced.
Keltur  [author] 21 May, 2015 @ 9:55pm
The issue is that you can't get headshots with the crossbow in Black Mesa like you could in HL1, so it's hard to balance it similarly to how it was. Still, I'll make it do more damage so it one-hits more enemies.
Abdul 21 May, 2015 @ 8:05am
sorry for spam, but i must say this.
crossbow needs more than 1 shot to kill vortigaunt, black ops and probably human soldiers too. That makes the weapon useless, cause you need 2 shots also with magnum, but magnum is hit scan so its better anyway and you can headshot easier because of hitscan. Crossbow must be one shot kill for almost every enemy except alien grunt and stronger
Abdul 21 May, 2015 @ 7:49am
I have 100hp 86 armor, ichtyosaur does one bite and I have only 10hp left and no armor? wtf?
Abdul 21 May, 2015 @ 7:47am
you need 7 crossbow bolts to kill an ichtyosaur, that is ridiculous ...
Abdul 21 May, 2015 @ 3:36am
and they have way too much hp. 2 headshots with magnum + like 10 shots with 9mm at least to kill 1. Thats ridiculous
Abdul 21 May, 2015 @ 3:35am
bullsquid projectiles are undodgable by strafing and the hitbox of the projectile is much bigger than it looks.
Abdul 21 May, 2015 @ 1:55am
thank you so much for this mod. I really improves the experience. Especially thank you for fixing the crowbar, now its actually fun to use and challenging.
Keltur  [author] 19 May, 2015 @ 11:55pm
I made a change to account for those changes. Also, since the developers didn't fix the difficulty settings to reduce player damage on hard, I upped the health of most enemies.
Merrick Simms 19 May, 2015 @ 11:48pm
Yeah I was just thinking about that. Because now with this patch the game is much harder than before.
Keltur  [author] 18 May, 2015 @ 7:42pm
In light of the recent patch and its difficulty changes, I'm going to make some adjustments to this mod.
Arch-Tau 17 May, 2015 @ 1:00am
I was talking about the entire mod, it'd be nice if it was added as a additional difficulty setting in the options, or possible to just toggle on and off. Just a suggestion, not trying to force you to do anything.
Keltur  [author] 17 May, 2015 @ 12:56am
Toggling all the effects of this mod? You can only subscribe/unsubscribe.

If you mean a specific effect, I can help you with it. I can tell you how to make your own difficulty configurations, which is really pretty easy.
Arch-Tau 17 May, 2015 @ 12:18am
Is this possible to toggle on/off?
Keltur  [author] 16 May, 2015 @ 5:55pm
In fact yes, I did change the HECU damage values. I reduced the HECU mp5 damage by 25% to match what I used in a personal mod I made for the Black Mesa Mod. (Player mp5 damage was reduced by a whopping 55% in comparison--mp5 damage was just too high for NPCs and the player I thought.)

I also changed the way HECU shotgun's worked. For some reason, they were firing only a single shot out of their shotgun that did 15 damage... if it hit you. Basically they were firing innacurate slugs. I changed it to be like the player's shotgun where it fires 8 pellets (each does 3 damage).
Juju 16 May, 2015 @ 10:52am
Does this change the damage the HECU do? because they already do quite a bit of damage and the game would be like impossible if it was increased
Merrick Simms 16 May, 2015 @ 3:42am
I've always hated the Bullsquid attack in Black Mesa. But the new one with your mod is perfect (But easier to avoid).

And with your mod, the Crowbar has finally a normal attack speed.
Keltur  [author] 14 May, 2015 @ 10:16pm
In fact, bullsquids are almost like a Half-Life 1 equivalent of a Combine hunter with this mod.

They now have a lot of health and resistance to bullets. Previously, you would be able to dispatch them easily with a single shotgun blast to the face. Now, you'll want to minimize the amount of time that the squid has to shoot at you while you keep damaging it.
Keltur  [author] 14 May, 2015 @ 10:10pm
Bullsquids now spit a single globule of acid. It moves much faster, in a much straighter line, more accurately, for a LOT more damage.
Dr. Slapnutz 14 May, 2015 @ 9:23pm
What do you mean by "Half-Life 1-style spitting attacks for Bullsquids"?
Mblaze 14 May, 2015 @ 5:11pm
It's like an unofficial balance fix (it fixes for example the glitched crowbar swinging speed) and yeah, now the game is challenging even on Normal difficulty :ss13ok:
