I have no idea when the change to 256x256 textures was made. It was actually something that became a problem when adding in the new Nanbu units, as I found i accidentally baked in one of the daimyo's symbols into my level 3 base copy.

Here's a link to the level 1 and 2 clean skins, and the level 3 one with the accidental bake-in:

Any way to get the base file used for the daimyo textures? Seeing as yours are 2x the size of the vanilla EU4 textures, they are a bit easier to work with.

Any chance of this getting updated for 1.16 and you fixing Nanbu's (horrific bug) issue of Western units, replacing them with Japanese? Would be very awesome, mate! And I'm sure others besides myself would appreciate it heartily. :steamhappy:

@Takeo You would need to modify the animations (Which I believe is hardcoded) so if you made them use katanas they would be thrusting them like they are spears. Mounted katana might be viable however.

it was no backup weapon perse, samurai were proficient in all 3, but depending on terrain they would choose their weapon, also depending on preferance some samurai would choose to rather take katanas and some to almost always stick with naginata, if possible.
It was situational and a lot of personal preferance.

Wasn't the katana a backup weapon limited to the Samurai class? IIRC, the Ashigaru fought with the yari spear mostly, and the Samurai used bow and naginata before falling back to katana.

Hex Editor to point the models to use the new textures and Paint .net to edit the textures themselves. No direct model editing.

And if you refer to your chosen unit in the gamefiles? In EU3 you could define which spritemodel each TAG would show ingame. Cant believe it would be hardcoded since you can change the rest

After becoming Japan your units do change over to the standard Japanese unit. As far as I know that's not something I can change, although if someone knows a way I would be more than happy to implement it.
