makes some sounds nonexistent, like the water pouring into the flooded elevator shaft in unforeseen consequences, instead of having audio of water flowing like the base game it's just completely silent, looking inside the sound scripts there seems to be a ton of entries missing, the xen sound script on it's own is missing 10 entries related to ambience and other audio

Is there a mod out there that only restores the sound produced by the Anti-Mass Spectrometer?
Adre 30 Mar, 2022 @ 10:32am
Does this affect the Xen OST?

@1v4n94 THANK YOU. A like minded individual. This mod is bomb btw in case you're going for that 'movie' experience because the soundscapes are way more atmospheric than vanilla BM
1v4n94 6 Aug, 2021 @ 4:22pm
My only suggestion is to make a list of every soundfile replaced.

I guess this still works, since more than 300 people are subscribed at the moment of this comment.

snd_restart makes your last words in the description obsolete ;)

1v4n94 28 Jun, 2019 @ 10:00pm
I don't like to play games like they are just games , if you know what I mean
1v4n94 28 Jun, 2019 @ 9:59pm
The way you play reminds me of myself playing! You and I got similar playstyles apparently. At least from seeing your video 👌☺

Does this include the horrible screams of the scientist in on a rail?
Gordon Freeman 15 Dec, 2017 @ 5:24am
Nice! Could you link the footsteps mod though?
Ashita no Jonas 16 Sep, 2017 @ 5:00am
Doesn't work for me. Do I have to put this into a specific folder?
Keltur  [author] 14 Jul, 2017 @ 11:18pm
I added a video preview. A 9-minuter around the AMS Chamber. This captures very little of what all is changed, but I think it does a good enough job.

Note that some sounds in the preview (zombies, explosions, footsteps, VOX and player sounds) are not part of this mod.
Keltur  [author] 14 Jul, 2017 @ 7:48pm
I'll get to work on uploading a video that demonstrates the modified world sound effects. The reason why I hadn't previously done so is that my changes are very encompassing and no short video can quite capture the scope of the modifications (unlike my other mods). Also, I'm lazy when it comes to demonstrating anything, but will do so when asked. However, please take note that the video will also likely show some sound modifications that are *not* in this mod (or any of my other Workshop mods) because the Workshop has strong limitations on what audio changes (such as script file changes) can be uploaded onto it.
Keltur  [author] 14 Jul, 2017 @ 7:48pm
@Dead Pixel: You are correct! That is the model I used for the screenshot, taken in Garry's Mod. It's very awesome to have a Valve-made Gordon model for the Source engine. Also--not sure if the Gmod addon has added it--but there was a relatively recent leak of HL2 development files that contains a higher resolution texture for that Gordon model (in case anybody finds the resolution of the one for the addon, originally from that Japanese arcade game, too poor).
Pixel 14 Jul, 2017 @ 12:40pm
Yes, please do add a video preview.

Also, for those wondering about the Gordon model, I'm pretty certain it's this one from the Garry's Mod workshop. Fun fact: That's technically the only official HL2 era Gordon model.
CryoStrider 13 Jul, 2017 @ 11:05am
Hey, can you please provide a link to that Gordon model? It looks great.

Also, something that would help your mod a lot would be a video preview with some of the changes.
Sir. Barnaby | trade.tf 11 Jul, 2017 @ 2:15am
Upload the sample of the mod to soundcloud atleast.
The Doctor 7 Jul, 2017 @ 12:03am
Oh my god... Thats the most official modern Gordon model I have ever seen. When did that come out?
Nephrite Harmony 24 Mar, 2017 @ 3:20pm
video?
-:[TSSL]:-DarkWG 15 Nov, 2016 @ 2:25pm
ah and btw for me the download size is ok, i would even download 1 GB of sounds if it would be necessary to get the black mesa sounds more closely to the original hl1 ones :)
-:[TSSL]:-DarkWG 15 Nov, 2016 @ 2:22pm
Thank you for updating!! atm im playing Black Mesa and started from beginning, going through until the end. It seems atm that everything is ok, i got some error messages in the console somtimes, one i remember was "zombie_hit_miss" sound was "missing or could not be played" or something like that was shown in the console.... but i dont know if that is because of your mod or because of black mesa mod itself ... and btw its hard for me to hear all the differences for all the sounds because i dont know exactly wich sounds you are replaced and which still the "new" sounds, because i don't remember all the "new" sounds which black mesa mod included/replaced with the original ones... long time ago i played black mesa full when i downloaded it years ago.
But i will let you know if i will recognize something strange with the sounds :)
Keltur  [author] 11 Nov, 2016 @ 1:55pm
So I've reuploaded this. It now includes new changes (as I'm basically constantly changing this particular mod as a hobby of mine), and it's ballooned up in size to about a third of a GB. Pretty big!

If there are any issues (with the sounds not playing or style/glitch problems) or requests for a smaller download size (since we all don't have Google Fiber), please let me know.
Keltur  [author] 11 Nov, 2016 @ 1:47pm
I'll see what I can do.
-:[TSSL]:-DarkWG 11 Nov, 2016 @ 3:54am
This mod needs to be fixed too right? just tried to download it but it gaves me many error messages in the console and no sounds playing opening doors and other examples.
feda bartov 8 Feb, 2016 @ 6:22pm
but the thing is when i try to go a this place in my PC not found the /sound/spound.cache is not there, well i just check to be sure and the file is not there. i dont know why but maybe the patch
Keltur  [author] 8 Feb, 2016 @ 5:45pm
I'm not sure what those particular errors mean, but there have been some workshop issues introduced by one of the latest Black Mesa patches. Some sound mods can no longer work as a result. This may be one of those mods.
feda bartov 8 Feb, 2016 @ 7:42am
it tell me check files permission when i do snd_restart what is that
Keltur  [author] 23 Aug, 2015 @ 6:32pm
Footsteps are not included in this mod. This is because the workshop doesn't allow modification of sound script files, which is the main reason why I've come to stop being active with the Black Mesa workshop.

I do have more mods that make changes to other sounds--such as footsteps--to make the game sound more like a Source game, but they simply don't work through the Workshop.

If asked for, I could upload these mods (which I've used for myself, and put a lot of time into) onto a third-party website like gamebanana.com for download.
nosedive1980 23 Aug, 2015 @ 8:05am
where is footsteps?
ThunderTurtle 10 Aug, 2015 @ 9:11am
it's not loud enough but it sounds so good
Raterix 23 Jul, 2015 @ 1:25am
Please make a video demonstrating the changes.
Can't We All Just Get Along? 3 Jun, 2015 @ 7:49am
No, I think your work in this is brilliant. The issue is how well the sounds meld with the rest of the game. I'm still testing it, and I'll see if I can post feedback here
Keltur  [author] 2 Jun, 2015 @ 10:21pm
If, however, you think a particular HL1 sound is just too ugly in some particular area, you can mention it to me. I'm pretty reasonable, I like to think. I don't mention this in the description, but there are even a few cases where I replaced a Black Mesa sound with *another* Black Mesa sound--it sounded better than any HL1 or HL2 file would have been there.

All these sound mods I put up are actually the result of "modding" I did before this retail version of Black Mesa even came out. I spent different periods of time across 2014, while playing the mod version, making small changes to the audio environment of the game. Basically, I wanted the game to sound as seamless with Half-Life 2 to me as possible.
Keltur  [author] 2 Jun, 2015 @ 10:11pm
Other than the ambience folder I included, there are a few other Black Mesa sounds I replaced directly with HL1 sounds.

The reason for using *any* HL1 sounds at all is because:

1. HL2 used a number of sounds that were also in HL1. So there's a bit of a precedent.

2. Black Mesa is a game that stays true very well to the nature of HL1. Some sounds don't sound (to me, anyways) close enough to their original HL1 counterparts, so I simply use a HL1 sound. Black Mesa is *ALSO* however a bit of a technology showcase, so I don't lightly replace a Black Mesa sound with one that is nearly a tenth of its bit rate. I picked whichever sounds more appropriate to me.

or

3. There may be other issues I find in a Black Mesa sound other than its lack of "HL1-ness." It may be that it simply causes me a headache, so I replaced it with a HL1 sound.
Keltur  [author] 2 Jun, 2015 @ 9:57pm
I copied the entire ambience folder from HL1. I only make use of a few sounds from there in the soundscaping changes that I made. I really didn't need to copy the entire folder, and when I get myself to figure exactly which ones I'm using (because I've forgotten) I will delete the ones the mod doesn't use.

About the empty files--yes, I intentionally made a number of sounds blank so that they made no noise at all.
Can't We All Just Get Along? 2 Jun, 2015 @ 9:50pm
Also, I noticed there are some files that have nothing in them, were they made merely to fill blank spaces?
Can't We All Just Get Along? 2 Jun, 2015 @ 9:50pm
Hmm sounds intriguing. I peeked throug the files and noticed you even used a lot of low-quality HL sounds over those in black mesa. Care to share why you made this choice?
Dalek Caan 2 Jun, 2015 @ 12:37pm
You are awesome.
Keltur  [author] 30 May, 2015 @ 6:00pm
Yeah, I changed their sounds.
Dr. Slapnutz 30 May, 2015 @ 5:59pm
No, those are fine. I'm talking about when the aliens are teleporting, they make a slightly different sound.
Keltur  [author] 30 May, 2015 @ 4:27pm
Are you talking about the Lambda Core player teleportation sounds? I didn't change those.
Dr. Slapnutz 30 May, 2015 @ 4:18pm
A little bit of advice, the sound of you teleporting and the aliens teleporting aren't the same. The alien version is a little more electrical sounding.
