They are a little easier to find, because hound will give some red and blue gem time to time. Also, with caves it's possible to find some gems from earthquake too.

On one of my friends servers we only managed to get about 5ish gears (Almost no robots spawned) This mod seems pretty balanced for anybody who's gotten past atleast day 80 and need like 30 gears for their base! xD good mod.

To expensive can you make it so you can make them with 1 stick and 1 of nothing els at all ^_^
Or maby 1 grass or just 1 pinecone ye =D

Yea, i guess that makes sense but i usually get gears on day 4, unless you're a wizard you wont be getting steel wool or a purple gem early game
Lumisteria  [author] 26 Sep, 2015 @ 3:07pm
The option here is something like, if you want to have more gears you could, but it will not be easy, very often not in early-game, and if you kill an ewecus, you can have a reward (for the moment, there isn't)

We have all our own notion of challenge, of fun, of difficulty. A lot of mod make things easiers, and for me, sometime, too easier. I want a mod that will allow you to have more possibilies, but being close of the "standart" difficulty of the game.

Zackreaver : I think that with cave, it will be more easy to obtain gems, especially blue and red gem. So the purple gem part will not be an obstacle.

PancakeZ : Yes, it's expensive, but gears are usefull, so i want to keep a balance.

And there are other, more easy, and popular mod, and it's fine. It allow people to take the mod they find the more appropriate for their servers, the more balanced to their taste. I like it.
If i keep this mod "difficult", it's also because there is easier options, so i don't want this mod to be like a copy of the easier mods. I want it to give an option.

Psh too expensive and plus there are other, more popular gear recipe mods

But if you'd ask me, and wanted the recipe to not just essentially be making ewecus dropping gears, how about having the purple gem be electric milk instead? At least with a volt goat you can force them to get electrified to drop the milk, where as with gems they will only sometimes drop.

I sure people would rather use gem's on gears, as they probably wouldn't use purple gem's past shadow manipulator anyway. But considering how much I'd rather have an ice staff or a life giving amulet over another fling-o-matic, it's just personally something I would never bother doing.

The steel wool is already a very hard to obtain resource, being that it only comes from the ewecus, which on top of being a very difficult beast to kill, also only appears on rare occasions. I don't feel the gem as an extra cost is really needed. That's just my 2 cents.

I get that, just with my playstyle and situations I usually have a really hard time finding gems, and because of them only dropping off of special hounds which are always a rare thing to find it can be really difficulty to replace them.

With gears, every map spawns with at least a single clockwork, so I know that if I just look hard enough I'll find them. That or I'll find the desert, at that point I'l be collecting tumbleweeds as the sticks and grass provide the normally required resources for getting most things running.
Lumisteria  [author] 16 Jul, 2015 @ 2:02pm
I think it's essentially a matter of playstyle.
You could use this recipe and the tumbleweeds search, so i don't want the recipe to be too easy.
Some will prefer just search for tumbleweed. You could do both. And if you don't search in tumbleweed (base too far of it for example), you could have a way to obtain gears sometimes.

The gem part is here to give a cost (because the steel wool have no use, and the doodad isn't really a high price). You could prefer use it for other purpose : some people will prefer a new flingomatic to expand their base rather than use gems.

Yeah looking at that recipe, I don't think I'd ever use a purple gem for a gear, I tend to find gems alot more valuable than gears. After I have my icebox and flingomatic, I'm not using gears for anything anymore, and even if I was wx78, I would just go open tumbleweeds like Not Thanatos said.
Slice of Thanatoast 20 Jun, 2015 @ 8:31am
I appreciate you giving steel wool a use but it'd probably be a lot easier to just farm tumbleweeds and I tend to get many gears from them, around 5 a month.
Lumisteria  [author] 19 Jun, 2015 @ 2:02pm
Yes, when you start the game, finding gears in grave-digging or by fighting chesspiece would be more easy than finding and killing an ewecus.
But in late game, when you have no more grave to dig and no more chesspiece to kill, this become an alternative to randomness of tumbleweed.
DukeOfNoods 17 Jun, 2015 @ 6:23pm
Killing the Ewecus as to get the resources for a simple gear is far too complex. First off, no garuntees your going to find a Ewecus very easily. Second, by the time a small group of players have the equipment to defeat a Ewecus they should already have found at least one group of clockworks in a Chess Biome.
Lumisteria  [author] 15 Jun, 2015 @ 3:57am
*Yuki* Yes, there are others mods doing this. But i was searching for something difficult and giving a feeling of reward. Killing a great beast and be able to craft a gear is more fun, for me, than just gather resource.

Also, there isn't, for the moment, use for the Steel Wool.

Bonder : The "configure" option should answer your request. Thank for the idea.

Let me know if anything doesn't work as intended.
*Yuki* 15 Jun, 2015 @ 2:37am
but there are like a two mods with gears crafting already here...
Drinkcup 14 Jun, 2015 @ 3:51pm
Well! that is.. that is pretty tough. I like it though, but just to throw out there, as an idea maybe using the mats you have listed, would result in 3 gears or 2 gears instead of just 1? That way the player still has to put in a lot of effort, but 1 gear alone is a bit paltry of a reward; i think most people would just farm tumbleweeds instead.
Anyway, cool idea
