it´s to much to wright so... best look for some videos on YT or so :P
And that is... "What is PDS?"
"Why do I want PDS in my Homeworld install"
Because currently it just seems to be a legendary mod but no description as to what it changed / added exists anymore.
me and my freind of varying shitty and good computers can run it so i highly doubt its that.
- the default resolution is fucking shit so i reccomend plugging in or using a different monitor till you can change the resolution (or change it in the files)
- the game 'black screens' on startup for some, tab out and back in after you igve it a small amount of time to 'load' and it tends to work
- always launch it wihtought mods first
- if all else fails make sure you dont need to redownload it
- google it (if your using IE/bing your doing it wrong)
If you aren't using 2nd gen i7 processors, no, Homeworld 2 classic does *not* like win 7. Homeworld 2 was originally built for Pentuim 4 processors. For some reason, not many CPU's can run like a Pentium 4, but 2nd gen i7's can. Before Homeworld 2 was remastered, if you didn't have Pentium 4's about 30 mins into the game it would start running slower than molasses in winter -saving took upwards of 3 minutes.
I am guessing that Gearbox re-did some of the classic HW2 engine to help with this problem, but as a side effect, it might not be as stable or as extensible and one of the files or resources PDS counts on is no either longer there or changed.
This means you might need work-arounds to achieve stability. When in doubt, consult the internet. I'd start with "Homeworld Remastered PDS Crash" (without the quotes because the quotes will get most search engines to look for that exact phrase -which can be very helpful).
No, PDS is basically macross without the spess robots and a LOT more point defence. It has so many more ship variants (typical of war times, vehicles getting repurposed for x and y jobs). The game is a lot more chaotic in terms of what's flying around, but not to the point where you can't figure out what's what (if you use the tactical map, that is).
And I still can't get this to work. The game crashes every time I try to run it. I think Win7 doesn't like HW2C.
As for what PDS does, it adds a lot of different units and redoes how the game really moves and feels. For example, you'll have cruisers that will, upon enemy detection, launch salvoes of nuclear missiles, many of which won't even hit because of the Point Defense Systems (hence hte name) meant to put up a wall of bullets to stop missiles from detonating on the ships. And so it comes down to fights where maneuvering, long range fighting, and epic lasers to win the day.
@GUTS The crash error's been a huge issue when loading up a MP game. If it works for a simple skirmish but not MP that should get looked into for the remastered version. Can you pass that word up the chain if you're still speaking to the old gang from the PDS forums?
As for the tactical-space sim level stuff, I agree that sometimes it seems too guided, but tbh, if you're in space and have epic levels of dakka, it makes sense in how current navys work to have precision guided munitions, and CWS systems to take down missiles as well... but now in spess
I liked the PDS mod, I really did, but it felt like...someone was trying to pull the game into something faaar too sim-like into a game that was just the opposite. Not to mention the game engine can't really handle it either. :P
