Those are the recommended tools; GCFScape and VTFEdit (as well as "Source VTF", "Normal Map" GIMP plugins.)
As I said, VMT is pretty much the "shader" of the VTFs, if you change it wrong the texture will be ugly no matter what.
If you'd like to learn a lot more, you can add me if you want, but don't expect a nice, charming emotional guy, I'm mostly extremely stoic.
Now, you must be a little bit careful. I don't know how good you are with textures...Or anything at all for that matter so if you think I consider you as a total newbie, don't be offended, it happens on everyone anyway.
Make sure that after you made the textures, you save them however you can, be VERY wary of compressions, DXT1 and DXT5, as well as mip maps and the other options. NEVER compress a normal map unless you know how or you're sure it won't be a problem.
If you really wanna get into the same ship I am and sink to the abyss, you, as you already know I'm sure, gotta learn not just how to texture but how to use the Source Engine's method of controlling materials. They're VMTs and VTFs.
VTFs are the textures themselves, VMTs are what give the textures the shaders and which texture file they really gotta use. Both are important, you gotta learn them both (VMT is harder to learn simply because it is a little bit more related to coding than texturing).
Knowing you use GIMP, you should try finding two plugins; "VTF Plugin" and "Normal Map Plugin".
What do you think ?
Can you add them soon on this first? Take your time...

EDIT:
Really nice SWEP, feels soft in the players hands, sounds are good and animations were fluid and soft. I really liked the Attachment Variety, one of your best SWEPs (i'm totally in love with your Dragunov and the newly Automag .44!) Keep up the good work, you are already one of the best SWEP creators.
