A few months ago, I mistakenly claimed that this mod made the game unbalanced by giving the Western Roman Empire (WRE) a stronger economy than the Eastern Roman Empire (ERE). At the time, I didn’t take into account the difference in army sizes. In fact, the WRE starts with 5,700 soldiers, while the ERE has 7,240. Interestingly, despite having more troops, the ERE also has lower upkeep costs, which I believe is due to the different unit compositions between the two empires. For example, in the base game, the WRE's army upkeep is 9,860, while the ERE's is 8,861. With the mod, these numbers change slightly to 9,830 for the WRE and 8,889 for the ERE—though I’m not entirely sure why.

I just wanted to clarify that this mod actually does exactly what it's supposed to do. It doesn’t create imbalance. The WRE simply has fewer soldiers and likely more churches, which, once their upkeep is removed, gives the West a larger budget at the game's start compared to the East.

Laird DeVere 16. feb. 2024 kl. 20:58
Arianism isn't Christian, kek. Only Greek and Latin Nicene Christianity are (Orthodox Christianity)

Great mod! How come the max level patriarchal church only has +1 osmosis, when the prerequisite has +3? Also could you make a mod that only removes the upkeep costs, and keeps all benefits vanilla? Thank you!

legionaer20 16. dec. 2017 kl. 3:29
i am playing WRE and i am swimming in money, maybe the upkeep cost could be integrated again for balance, maybe like half that of vanilla
Alexander The Greek 11. dec. 2017 kl. 10:57
Plese, keep the maintenance cost and even better increase it a little. It is more realistic and historical.
eliteforce2 6. dec. 2017 kl. 9:55

Any possibility of a minor buff to Germanic paganism?
Lady Aelora 20. sep. 2016 kl. 23:01
I second that it isn't working and displays the same benefits and upkeeps, with no osmosis
CooterSpooner 29. aug. 2016 kl. 22:19
This is a great idea. Any way you can make it compatible with radious?
ekoparker 11. juli 2016 kl. 20:32
It's not working for me, I start up a new game and the churches are still at the same benefits and upkeep cost.
Lord Raymund 13. maj 2016 kl. 8:41
Does this effect Eastern Christianity? You know the Lakhmid religion. I Think :P :easternromanempire:
Brother Timus 19. apr. 2016 kl. 7:33
HI! Nice mod, but there is a small trouble - you made religious osmosis equal to 3 in Greek Patriarchal Cathedral (level 4), but you did not change it in Greek Patriarchal See (level 5), where religious osmosis equal to 1. It is seems to me unlogical, if level 4 church has a higher bonus than level 5. Can you please change it?
Jarl Gris 23. mar. 2016 kl. 15:28
Any plans to adjust for Eastern Christianity? Prime work, btw. I've been using your mods for Rome II and this and found these make the game for me.
eNoble-US 4. mar. 2016 kl. 17:31
Could someone make a mod and make it so Mount Vesuvius adds a latin christian influence rather than a Roman Pagan influence?
wbadger_13 3. mar. 2016 kl. 18:13
Actually found out what was conflicting - It was Nick Naughty's barbarian hordes expanded mod. It seems the table changes he made make it incompatible with this one
wbadger_13 3. mar. 2016 kl. 18:06
Mod doesn't seem to be working with Tanukhids for Greek Christianity as of right now, but it has worked in the past. Maybe something got screwed up while updating it at some point? I was using The_Yogi's sanitation building fetility bonus mod but even when I disabled that and re-loaded the maintenance cost was still on the churches. That mod uses the same effect from the religious buildings added from the Slav DLC I thought there might have been a conflict
nsheon 26. feb. 2016 kl. 23:34
Wondering if there is a way to implement this mod without it being a buff to the WRE. Taking the maintenance cost for their churches, in my experience, makes them drastically more powerful. Perhaps a way to fix this would be to implement a faction trait for them that hits their economy, or something of the sort. The Byzantine Empire's use of the Church was a good move politically, so maybe the ERE could keep it as a buff, but I never realized just how big a cost those churches are for the WRE until I started using this mod

It's awesome to see all these kingdoms converting to Christianity, and I feel it would make both gameplay and historical sense to have the Roman Church survive as the state dies around it.
kingfrederick 25. feb. 2016 kl. 15:07
Be so kind as to update this mod to keep up with the new Slavic patch?
Weilz4Dealz 25. feb. 2016 kl. 12:03
there was an update
Der Teddy 14. feb. 2016 kl. 4:29

Sebidee  [ophavsmand] 14. feb. 2016 kl. 4:26
I guess not, very few mods are.
Der Teddy 14. feb. 2016 kl. 4:25
It's not compatible with radious?
Sebidee  [ophavsmand] 14. feb. 2016 kl. 3:11
YOu must be using another mod.
Der Teddy 14. feb. 2016 kl. 1:06
Doesn't seem to work, still shows that it takes a lot of money to maintain :(
The Void Boy 11. feb. 2016 kl. 22:06
Well thanks for at least giving me the time of day anyway, I think I may have found a mod that does something similar to what im asking. also this mod works great and i'll be sure to give that AOC mod a look.
Sebidee  [ophavsmand] 11. feb. 2016 kl. 15:48
No I hadn't since it doesn't have the nerfs as the other religions.
nsheon 11. feb. 2016 kl. 13:10
Thanks! Great to know you agree. Also, did you change Eastern Christianity at all? I know somewhere in the comment thread you were discussing that but did you end up making any alterations?
Sebidee  [ophavsmand] 11. feb. 2016 kl. 9:33
adcappy, hadn't really planned on doing Grand Campaign factions but I'm doing a big mod for Age of Charlemagne that improves the rosters.

Nsheon, yes I agree with you about the monasteries, they were a big deal in Irish history too. I'll update with a buff for them as soon as I can.
The Void Boy 11. feb. 2016 kl. 9:23
hey Sebidee i was a big fan of your unit packs in Rome 2. i hope you can do something similar in attila and if you do can you please buff the WRE's roster by giving them armored sagitarii and tagmata cavalry and possibly some other things? because in the vanilla game it seems like the ERE can do everything the WRE can do but better and with even greater variety.
nsheon 9. feb. 2016 kl. 23:34
This also makes historical sense to me. Churches are mostly meant to serve the local population. Monastic traditions, on the contrary, stimulate the creation of religious artistry and writing (St. Augustine for instance) as well as pilgrimages. Monks, as I understand it in the Catholic tradition at least, are historically much more fervent and active proselytizers. Those would be my arguments, from a gameplay and a historical perspective, why the monastery chain should have a higher osmosis output than churches. Hope you'll consider this suggestion :) I haven't played with the other Christian factions with this mod, but if I think of anything for those I'll let you know as well. Thanks for all the great work!
nsheon 9. feb. 2016 kl. 23:34
As with all your work, I love this mod. I have one suggestion though: the Latin monastery chain should provide more osmosis than churches

I think, for the WRE at least, giving osmosis to churches renders the monastery chain somewhat useless. Sanitation is so easy to take care of from other sources (for most factions honestly, not just WRE), especially given that monasteries only give sanitation to the capital. I agree that all the buildings should have osmosis, but personally I enjoy the monastery chain for flavor as well

Wow, thanks Sebidee, that's really awsome of you.
Sebidee  [ophavsmand] 9. feb. 2016 kl. 9:13
That's a good idea, I'll look into it.
