This mod replaces the vanilla text with images of arrows. You can rebind your controls to whatever you'd like to use.

Does it work with wasd?

This is fantastic. Now I can use key combos without having to think about it first, thank you so much!

I guess if someone likes it then really good mod. I far more prefer words.

And the steam workshop saves the day again. Thanks just started playing the game and i needed this
Zenon  [author] 2 Aug, 2022 @ 5:16pm
Yup, they're just images. If you download the mod you should be able to see how it's laid out. There's a localization.xml file which allows you to adjust the positions of the images as well.

Been enjoying this mod for years, never got a chance to say Thank you, now i'm inspired to make a mod like this but for a Playstation Mini's Controller. One question are the arrows in the mod PNGs?
Zenon  [author] 12 Jul, 2022 @ 8:35pm
Looks good! Thanks Vortex and team! :)

Hi! As of update 3.0.2, we've re-added support for this mod!
Zenon  [author] 9 Jul, 2022 @ 11:20pm
3.0.1 workaround mod has been updated to use this mod's arrow graphics: https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2833112751
Jin 7 Jul, 2022 @ 9:57am
thanks!
Zenon  [author] 6 Jul, 2022 @ 4:17pm
The pastebin uses a template generated for 3.0.0. The latest release (3.0.1) has changed the template which breaks the workaround :(

Once a new template is released I will update with another pastebin.

You can also try this workaround mod which edits all the use item images to include arrows for default keybinds: https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2831400004
Jin 6 Jul, 2022 @ 3:27pm
I cant get the pastebin to work, I save it to the folder and I am able to select it in game but it does nothing to the UI.
Zenon  [author] 1 Jul, 2022 @ 9:40pm
Here is an alternative for now: https://pastebin.com/h6qaAsy2
It uses utf-8 arrow characters. This doesn't look as clean as the original but may help those who prefer playing with arrows over text.

Usage:
1. In game, go to the pause menu > options >language options >language: engligh > open language directory. Your computer should open a folder in a separate window.
2. Save the contents of the pastebin as a .csv file in the opened language directory (e.g.: wordsToArrows.csv).
3. Load the language in the game (named "WTA").
Zenon  [author] 1 Jul, 2022 @ 8:55pm
Thanks for the report! As mentioned, it may take some time to resolve as the language system has been completely overhauled. I'll learn the new system and see if there's viable alternatives.

Thank-you for your patience :)

Maybe in the next update they can include this HUD option in vanilla :P
Arch Linux Enjoyer 1 Jul, 2022 @ 8:18pm
The issue is that the update, at least from what I can tell from looking at the data files, seems to have completely changed the way the HUD text is displayed. Where previously it was displayed as a single PNG graphic, now it is built from the font located in the text menu, meaning that an easy fix for this is unlikely unless they revert this aspect of the update.

v not like it'll ruin your save files, you can always get rid of it and re-download the game if you get issues
Fred_D_Terrarian 31 Mar, 2020 @ 5:45am
I want to try this out, but I'm sort of put off by the warning because paranoia lol. Has anyone with the DLC had any issues with using this?
zgates 4 Mar, 2019 @ 4:03pm
I like it.

@kebabsoup
@Kinzuko
It's a skill that's often taken for granted. We forget that at one time, it took a lot of effort to remember.
Did anyone ever tell you of the "L" trick? It's how I figured it out.
Take your hands, and face them out, pointer to the ceiling. Now close all the fingers on both hands except for the pointer and thumb.
Whichever hand looks like the letter "L" is the left.
Kinzuko 2 Nov, 2017 @ 3:51pm
i never learned left and right in school and thus have to think for a second :l thx for the mod (hope it doesnt disabe achievements)
kebabsoup 3 Jul, 2017 @ 9:05am
I have to confess I am 30 years old and I'm still mixing up my left and my right. Thank you for this mod.

Try this mod and see if it is what you are looking for:

If so, I'll work on it a bit more.
SlushiieHuskiie 14 Jan, 2017 @ 5:12pm
no you cant use it in combonation but i imagine that might be a popualr rebind
Zenon  [author] 14 Jan, 2017 @ 5:00pm
Okay, are you using this in combination with the left joystick?
SlushiieHuskiie 14 Jan, 2017 @ 4:16pm
its the default for controllers which is Y=up a=down x=left b=right
Zenon  [author] 14 Jan, 2017 @ 3:46pm
Hi ClapTrapObama,

Could you elaborate on which buttons you are referring to? The mod configuration would be different depending on your control scheme, since there is no default control scheme for controllers, and there is no way for a mod to load the control scheme from the game. So I would need to know what your preferred control scheme is.
SlushiieHuskiie 13 Jan, 2017 @ 11:48am
hey could you make one for xbox 360 buttons? that would help so much!
the sippy cup 18 Feb, 2016 @ 8:42pm

Nice! This makes it way easier to understand what to do witout losing the rythm! Thanks!
Artrox 25 Oct, 2015 @ 2:59am
I always found it wierd that the devs chose to write out the prompts in words. Thanks for making this

Can anyone confirm that this mod doesn't affect achiecements?
Zenon  [author] 14 Sep, 2015 @ 3:30pm
Hi Parzival,

I have not tested it myself, but according to the BYG forums the mod should not affect earning achievements. You can find the relevant thread here: http://braceyourselfgames.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=3684

This mod only modifies localization files, so to the best of my knowledge it should be okay.
Parzival 13 Sep, 2015 @ 4:49pm
This doesn't affect achievements, right?
Vyvyvn 20 Aug, 2015 @ 6:14pm
This is a must if you intend to use this with a dancepad too. +1
Zenon  [author] 31 Jul, 2015 @ 8:34pm
Thanks for the kind words everyone :)

This was actually my first suggestion in the beta! I think they implemented it at some point but I was surprised that they took it out of the final product. So here it is again for those who miss/missed it :)
Waffle Man 31 Jul, 2015 @ 2:56am
I demand that this is added to the official game.
Hellshake Yano 29 Jul, 2015 @ 7:52pm
Excellent idea.
Zenon  [author] 28 Jul, 2015 @ 10:09pm
Hi Lilwiiveiwer,

Thank-you for your great idea!

The reason why the arrows are in a row is because it is easier for me to read as a DDR player, but I can understand why the keyboard format would be easier for other players. I have published a different mod that uses the keyboard layout: https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=490154772
I can't think of a way to combine the two into a single mod. Sorry for the inconvenience.

The original graphics do not quite fit, so I had to change them, but I think it looks nice. I hope you enjoy it.
DeltΔ 28 Jul, 2015 @ 8:34pm
This is great, but the hud has it so all 4 arrows are in a row. What if you made them in the shape of the arrow keys? It would make it so it would be even faster to tell what button to press.
zakariasan2 28 Jul, 2015 @ 8:16pm
Good idea!
