Our Two Handed Great Sword is the biggest sword we make.

I'm not a fan of the handle nor the swirly thing around it, it would make sense if there were no quillons but the quillons here are gigantic. The blade looks gritty and unfinished, and I understand the squared point but in combination with the blade's current texture and the misshapen handle it makes the blade look poorly made. If you straighten the handle, get rid of that swirly guard thing and make the blade shiny it would look really awesome.

@ arfy
Never said I was "appropriating" history to my needs, I was just saying that it looked good. when I said that maybe the handle was just a bit bumpy, i was not meaning "That was the truth about some swords" and other things I said ETC. but i get what you meant and I see why what I said may have been misleading. Thanks :).

This one is the best skin, This one or the Margrave Greatsword, Why do skins this good not get put into the game?

THIS THIS IS FRIGGIN COOL AND I WANT TO FEINT PEOPLE WITH IT AND THEN KEEL 'EM

passion is there but you're appropriating history for your own ends. look into the source and draw inspiration from there, and your artistic vision will focus one thousandfold.

amazing sword

If its was blade more metallic it would be a yes to me, but at this stage it looks like it's made out of stone.

Thanks for the feedback and support dude. happy you like it :D

Besides, if what Frank says about it being an Execution Sword, then it OBVIOUSLY would not be used in combat, it was specifically used for executions. believe me, i have been looking at Swords and other Medieval stuff all my life, it's my passion. anyone remember the Executioner's Bardiche? that was used to execute people. so obviously it would not do as well in combat since the victim would not be laying on his stomach and the Block *Block means the chopping block*
like i said, Good Work. Its just a Game, no one cares what it looks like, as long as it is not a pony.:steamhappy:

I actually like this sword, who cares about the handle, it looks fine. think of it like like this. maybe a bumpy piece of wood was used for a Handle by mistake! lol. No offense Intended Frank, I think it looks good. i already voted it up. I like the red on the hilt on it. and besides, don't let it get to you if you have guys insulting your work. it the end, they are one.

Skins in Chivalry do not change the weapons hitbox, damage or speed. Skins are just that, these being Aesthetic replacements that do not change the function of the weapon whatsoever. This sword design is made to the boundaries of the original greatsword and the blade is the same length and width as the original the exception being a wide fuller and a rounded end both of these don’t exceed the weapons collision box. In short if it was a skin in the game it would not disadvantage you or give you an advantage. The reason I decided to make my own design instead of something completely historically accurate was for diversity between the skins. And the fact that chivalry’s art style is not a ‘medieval simulation’ but an art direction that instead focuses on ‘hollywood realism’ , means making a skin that is not historically accurate but believable in the medieval setting is completely appropriate. However you are entitled to your opinion and I appreciate your feedback.

Theorically the blade could be implemented, but then, Chivalry: Medieval Warfare would have to drop part of it's name, because it doesn't fit the medieval theme anymore + the executioner's sword couldn't be implemented as a greatsword, due to colossal differences in length, reach and techniques used, not suitable for the shortswords section too, since it's a two handed sword, would require it's own new section.
wrao 8 Aug, 2015 @ 6:02pm
Brickblades arent historically accurate not practically useful, you cant use em for stabbing attacks therefore effective range is noticeably reduced, and when it comes to greatswords range is what makes em shine, however when you can get a remarkably lighter blade with same reach and abillity to use its tip to damage opponents, who would pick the brickblade?

As for rounded off point blades, yeah I agree there were some, however they were pretty niche and you wouldn't ever see thousands of troops running around with them.

The link you showed is to a blade used in 16th century (not medieval ages,in which Chivalry: MEDIEVAL Warfare, moreover the blade wasn't used in combat and it's length is that of a shortsword, which further approves my point in 1st paragraph.

frank I agree with you completely, I like historically accurant stuff.
Frank the Fish  [author] 8 Aug, 2015 @ 6:27am
There are many examples of Executioner's swords from the middle ages that typically have rectangular blade shapes and a rounded off points: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Executioner%27s_sword
Never the less, I am disappointed that you disapprove. I hope my items in the future will be more to your taste :) cheers for the feedback man!
wrao 8 Aug, 2015 @ 5:13am
Another rectangular brick blade? seriously? why don't you offer this for some cheap korean MMOs, this is realistic game.:steamsalty:
Frank the Fish  [author] 7 Aug, 2015 @ 9:16pm
As for the rounded point it was design I made because I feel it is unique from other skins in the game. I am aware it was a risky decision but I wanted to bring something different to the table. I believe the rounded off point adds a blocky aesthetic that gives the sword weight and helps telegraph the blocky shape associated with the great sword. And yes it would not be as effective to stab with this sword but I think it’s unfair to say that getting stabbed with a long, narrow, flat piece of steel the length of a man wouldn’t be harmful. I know I certainly wouldn’t stand at the end of it :P . But the reason I think the flat end is an acceptable change is it’s only a very small change in silhouette. As a result it’s not going to telegraph differently to player’s in-game. What is important here is that looking at the shape players can still read a stab attack windup and recognise the skin as a great sword.

Hey Oilystool, thanks for another awesome constructive critique. To address some of the issues you brought up: the fuller, though it does have smoothing groups that cater the hard edge, I agree it is hard to see when not moving. I think that work on the ambient occlusion would definitely bring this detail.
Oilystool 7 Aug, 2015 @ 3:04am
The other part that could improve is the blade, its pretty flat and lacking in detail. First is the fact that it obviously has a fuller but you can only see it when the light shines at the precise angle, the rest of the time there is no indication on the blade that it has a fuller. So the physical detail of the blade sorta gets lost. You can either change the smoothing groups on the blade and give the fuller its own smoothing group. or you can make it more evident by implying this feature exists in the ambient occlusion map or the normal or both.

Lastly the way the diffuse and spec work along with the blade material makes the blade look really flat. Maybe the diffuse is too light, but when you move with the sword in first person view it looks like the same tone.
Oilystool 7 Aug, 2015 @ 2:24am
While i appreciate the story of the sword and its the design. The rounded off part of the blade does not work for me since it detracts from something that is a function of the sword in game and that's the stab feature. Which off course is a form of attack and when the sword does not look like it can actually stab,I think it takes away from the overall design.

Thanks for the feedback fellas! and pile of 300 is exactly right Raska a lot of historical executioners swords don't have a point. Also got to say I’m a big fan of your work too pile! I love it all, If you guys haven’t already you should check his stuff out and upvote, cheers again man!
Haifisch 6 Aug, 2015 @ 6:02pm
nice man
a pile of 300 babies 6 Aug, 2015 @ 3:05pm
It's an executioner's blade, it doesn't need a point.
Raska 6 Aug, 2015 @ 10:32am
It's cool overall, but I think the metal texture in the blade needs improvement (it looks 2 white) and the point of the sword is ... meh, not even a point.
King Harlaus 6 Aug, 2015 @ 10:07am
That's amazing
