Nothing attached to the rotors or pistons is able to be built from the blueprint, and pasting it into creative just causes it to break.

The projector isn't projecting anything :(

You're a genius! =D

i turned your mechanism upside down & got a perfect self building space elevator track :D

I love this drill rig, but the pistons that move the projector and merge blocks in and out keep breaking off (I think it's because the physics changed since this was made). Could you post the blueprint for the drill shaft, the one that is in the projector? If I had that, I could replace the piston system with something less breakable.

Wish we could get the control panel to translate itself.

suggestion: only really effects the first drill head unit. add 1 thruster in each direction perpindicular to the drill. they help cancel out the vibration and might put less stress on the conveyor tubes. you only need them on the first section so you could stop it after the first length. and rebuild the head and the just run like normal.

i tried doing these before but just using a chain of pistons that extended one at a time, but it was really bulky. slowing the movment of the piston might also help to avoid the drill snapping off

Was seeming a better design than what I was working on, but that wiggling is brutal, and as seen can certainly make things go wrong. A good idea, but the pistons as they are lend no help in this situation. The gyro suggestion might help in some manner though.

I was working on something similar to this, but using a small ship grid as the drillhead, but this is just straight up better. Bravo!

Suggestion for the drill shake problem: Stick a second drill in the drilling head and place a gyroscope behind it. I found out that a gyro in the moving part tends to stabilize the whole thing nicely. Works quite well for platforms, extensions, rotating parts and this kind of setup you have there.

Interesting solution. The grid times were set too short but I made it work. At some point (tube length 100+ m) the drill began to shake and broke off. So instead of conveyors it would be better to use adavnced rotors to connect the tubes but that's not possible with a projector.
@Solyxx There is a "Planet surface" world from w4stedspace and the "Enhanced Gravity Generators" mod from THDigi you can use to simulate a planet surface.

Do you have a video of this in action?

Ziron 21 Aug, 2015 @ 9:38pm
it's not a mod you have to build a custom version of the game in visual studio and do a little coding.
Solus The Immortal 21 Aug, 2015 @ 7:15pm
What is the mod you guys are using to be on a planet ?

@Terradus
Naitroud 20 Aug, 2015 @ 8:30am
Naitroud 20 Aug, 2015 @ 8:30am
Naitroud 20 Aug, 2015 @ 8:22am
Furry Eskimo 20 Aug, 2015 @ 6:12am
It's a really cool concept! Doesn't look finished though cause of the malfunctions.
I'd suggest trying to add a gyro to the end of the drill, or slowing how quickly your pistons extend.
eXtro 19 Aug, 2015 @ 9:22pm

Damn, workshop has been full of innovation as of late.
Terradus  [author] 19 Aug, 2015 @ 7:37am

eXtro 18 Aug, 2015 @ 10:15pm
flarefire 18 Aug, 2015 @ 6:52am
Looks great! I love the self-welding conveyor pipe concept. This system would also be very useful going up, to automatically lay pipes between a planet base and a space station.

Nice land carrier!
