Hah, that's not even the main problem. The real issue is that unlike in classic, projectiles are now modelled as individual physics objects that are tracked completely from weapon to destination, unlike in HW2 where weapons either applied damage or didn't and projectiles were just cosmetic for the most part. This increases CPU load and thus in Remastered, it may end up piledriving people's computers. Again.

Hi folks - sorry there has not been much progress with PDS in the last year. The last HW:RM patch vastly changed the way how squadron code works and this has been difficult porting PDS' dogfighting scripts for squadrons with their changed weapon systems. Work on this mod is asleep right now until any of the devs (myself included) get a chance to sit down and work on the patch overhaul which may take some time.

Apologies to all the fans looking for updates, but thanks for your passions and sorry we won't be able to deliver for a while longer.

To answer your question yes. We're still working on things. The update broke a lot of stuff and real life has been getting in the way of development. However the gears are still turning and we're keeping the spirit alive! Adapting what we have to the new movement code will take some time but we can definately take advantage of some of the new additions.

Also note we're looking for additional modders and coders and such to help pick up the slack. Feel free to contact myself or Typhoone if you're interested or even just want to talk or ask questions.

this is a awsome idea and a great addition to some of the ships that cant do squat to defend themselves. keep it up man.

PDS is fun, but it is in no way lore-friendly. =p I say that as one of the original devs-- 99% of the fluff for this was generated in wierd roleplaying on various forums, and it is scattered with excessive and gratituous technobabble.

"Point Defense Systems" [PDS] is a simulation-oriented, lore-friendly gameplay improvement and conversion for Homeworld 2. PDS has several iterators and forks dating as far back as 2004. A current "Remastered and Reimagined" mod of PDS is under development for HW:RM. This is version 6.1 of the original PDS mod, for Homeworld 2 Classic.

Features:
--Adding several weapons and hardpoints to original ships.
--Faster, high-octane space battle gameplay.
--New models, units, and re-skins of some existing units.

Oh wow, this takes me back. I remember that when I finally had a computer that could run HW2 that my first mods were Warlords and PDS, which at the time had just switched over to 6.0. So this is doubly nostalgic for me.

(Wasn't there a campaign file you could edit that would allow you to play the other half of the (unfinished/unbalanced) HW2 campaign, though?)

Wow, I remember this back when the HW2 mod community was up. It even has the old MP missions ("Dead Man's Fog" and Dead Man's Run")I created for the mod back when I was using the name "Deathblow". Great to see that its still up and running.

Agreed - made the campaign (at least the half that was modded) fantastically epic - really loved the increased health of the ships, especially the frigates and the larger number of hardpoints on everything, felt like your fleet had weight and mattered instead of being churned out by the mothership
