The AI is horrible at pathing in this patch, the AI will have plenty of room to keep them in their home provence but instead will send them up and down Itally for no reason and they will suffer massive atrition, one of the reasons I'm not playing this game this patch.
The devs don't seem to care either.

How do AI Republics handle extra retinues?

Wouldn't they all stack up and suffer from terrible attrition on their home province(s) late game?
