But to answer the question, I already have increased the alpha levels to about the highest they can go before we get weird flicker effects. =)
The Burning/Scorching effect is based on the flamethrower particles, which are already precolored an orangeish/reddish color. Taking the color code from the other purples results in a blend of the purple color and the reddish color, which creates a very light pink. It doesn't work correctly.
What had to be done was the purple had to be manually created by blending more of a blueish tint with the existing orange and red. The lighter you do it, the farther off base it looks in the final product.
Check out the creation video I linked earlier and you can see perfectly what I'm talking about.
Preview video has been updated. This adequately shows the unusual effect in full action.
New video showing the process, as well as the effect in action.

Hats of choice with Unusual effect of choice were never given out just for modelling, only to those people who found and reported (quote) "major economy-breaking bugs or remote-code-execution bugs, and provide(d) detailed information and steps to reproduce".
In the August 15, 2015 patch notes Valve announced that from now on such bug finders would get a special hat (with Unusual effect of choice) called the " Finder's Fee ", a baseball cap with a roach on top. The Finder's Fee "will be awarded going forward on a case-by-case basis"
