Thank you for the mod! I've used it for years. To answer someone's question, this mod doesn't seem to work added mid-game. I just reproduced that scenario, and I still get 5 upgrade points. I think you would need to add this mod and start a new game.

I'm not sure if it affects the ai, I guess I should think so since they level up just like players do. I'm glad so many people have enjoyed having the extra points, it makes the hero characters feel more valuable and awesome. Now I am curious to see what comes of Age of Wonders 4.

Thank you, with mods that add many hero skills this mod becomes necessary. I've finished 3 games now with many skills I'd still like to have. As long as the A.I. gets the points too it doesn't affect balance.

I don't know if it will retroactively give points to heroes that already leveled up, but it should function moving forward. I started new games after making the change.

It affects all hero units but I guess I never bothered to examine an enemy hero to confirm rather or not the ai is spending all of its points when leveling up. I imagine they are programmed to spend available points, not just 5 per level up though.

Does this affect AI as well or is it player only?

I have not had many occasions to play a super long game like that but I can see those 3 points extra adding up as you said. I think 8 works great in the first few levels but perhaps it should be 6 in general, make those decisions more important. I could probably put out a different version but it's not very difficult to mod yourself if you take the minute to dig into it. I'll look into it later.

I tried this mod in some of my games. I think to add 8 is a bit too much. I play with level cap 30 so i get 90 points more as usual. My heroes get to powerful.

I also play with a mod which make all units stronger. so i want to buff the heroes with this mod

i dont know how hard to chance or make a second mod but it would be nice to add the same mod with maybe 7 points or 6 per level. i think this would make the heroes not so overpower

What RPK file did you have to modify to do this?

No it should just work. Basically by having it active a file is changed, when the game loads it looks at the changed file instead of the natural one, and that's all there is to it. Regardless of install location. I have not played the game in a good while lately and don't know if any updates may have affected it but I doubt they would.

@Kaylin even with this mod only active, it doesnt work for me.

FYI im not suggesting your mod doesnt work, only that I may miss something here.

Anything that also affects the skill points will probably conflict.

I have subscribed to this and few other mods but it seems they dont work for me. *5 skill points still* I log in as guest. Any idea by someone?

You can edit this very mod and set the value for 20, as for experience I don't know. You will have to look around the options and find it.

Can you make mod to give 20 skill points per level combined with faster hero leveling? And remove leader and hero level cap?

I think it does since you change files related to all hero/leader classes.

Does this affect AI too? :))) I do wanna have epic clashes.

I had considered going higher myself but wanted it to be more of a reasonable number for long games. Have a blast trying out all those upgrades.

I had untick the entire AOW3 folder "read only" and I repeated the same process and BAM! Still ask me to save before exiting even when i saved many times.

@Kaylin Starlight, yeah, it must be one of those "unique" problem or sth on my side. Your mod works fine of course. I just want to increase the point per level to 16 points instead of 8

I don't know about that issue

Perhaps something was set as "read only"?
Or an issue with windows access rights for those files/folders?

I clicked save. It shows "data saved". I tried to exit the app, it ask me if i want to exit before saving. I click yes, enable the mod. Play the game, hero skill point is 5 per level
Open the mod and check the data again, saw the value of the skill point the same as default ;__;

Honestly i do not know, try clicking OK and then check did it actually save despite the warning.

Yeah, I need to get back in the game and play more. I love building up Heroes.

I like that it allows you to try more unusual skill builds for heroes without making yourself useless.
You can try making a (for example) combat Sorcerer but without making your hero awful through skipping the most important skills.

I love that they can gain strength but its just so slow. Even on small maps I just felt that people would enjoy having a little more power at their disposal. Thanks for the comment.

I like this because Heroes all seem kinda weak until they hit like L20+

I'm happy to see my simple edit is enjoyed by others. ^_^ And the hidden spells mod uses the same cover picture yes.

Mods like this are awesome because they let you pick skills that are fun or non-optimal while still taking the "mandatory" skills (skills that are too strong to skip without crippling yourself).

I assume the spell mod uses Starlight for the cover image.

I did it like this:
Start AOW3 from steam and in its launcher click on User Content then on Package Manager.
In package manager click File then New, put whatever name you want for your mod and click OK.
Now click Launch Mod Editor in that window and wait for it to load up (might take a while).

After its loaded click on File then Open Resource Pack then go to "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\AoW3\Content\Title\Packs" and select "HeroGlobalSettings.rpk".
Then you gotta select Global Settings (instead of Global Leader Icons) then click on Modify.
Then scroll down and find "Skill Points per level" and change it to whatever you want (default is 5).

Now if you are done editing click File then Save.
Open Launcher of AOW3 again and go to User Content then click Update to refresh the list of mods.
Your mod should appear there, so just make sure it is enabled (orange tick box) and click Play.

Mods that change the same files (in this case the file that changes hero stats) will have conflict. So you can only use 1 that modifies them. If there is a conflict, it may be reverting to the base game settings.

I seems to have the same problem with the epic hero levels mod...anyone else?

This mod ain't working for me, still gets 5 points. Known conflicts?
