Research Secret Spells

it seems to be fine to add in the middle of a game (though I'd recommend adding it in the middle of a game because otherwise it gives so many options that you will have a hard time getting everything you want/need from the normal research options)

I presume you mean if something should grant you a secret spell, it doesn't? Because you can research it? I'm not sure on that. As for starting it in the middle of a game, it should simply affect the research list so I would think it's fine. Maybe have a separate save file when you try it.

I think I found out something while this mod does allow you to research secret spells as a result it makes it when you do something that should give you some it doesn't always work (unless it's research) also if it's fine to ask can you add this mod in the middle of a game without it messing with stuff

If I remember right, the Sorcerer class has that, it's not a secret spell.

im guessing this one doesnt give" extraordinary mount", i looked at the mod manger in-game but i have no clue how exactly to make it into a mod and the site mod guide doesnt exactly specifics.

Turns out I eventually found it in a Wizard's Tower normally, but I'm still very happy this mod exists. There's plenty of fun stuff I can do with it. Thank you for making this.

Sounds glorious. Glad I could help. ^-^

I cleared out so many treasure sites that for some reason I stopped getting secret spells even though there's a few I'm missing. Like Great Immolation. Now, my fire-themed empire will still be able to burn everything in honor of the fire god.

Appreciate it.

I actually found a few in dlc packs, but I guess they called them "hidden" for good reason. Thank you for the reply, as old as AoW3 is I didn't know if you would or not. Happy modding.

I don't remember at this point, it's been quite a while since I made this. I don't think there was an option for each spell. Just a single option that opened you up to all of them. I realized as well that it floods your research book with some spells you don't care about as much but I was happy to deal with it.

Love the mod. I wanted to tweak it a bit for personal use, can you list the packs that were modified. I am just an amateur, so I get lost pretty easily. I have fooled with the package manager a bit, so not completely lost, I guess, mostly confused. Basically, My intent is to remove a few spells that I don't want to make it easier to get the bonus research perk.

And with this... every game becomes March of the Penguins!!!

I don't know much about how it all works, I just made a couple minor changes that were easy to find. I suggest you give the editor a look over.

Is there some way of lowering the priority of the secret spells? Some of them are fun things, but important class and spec skills are getting crowded out by things like Summon Dire Penguin or Summon Kobold.

ahk cool cool
Kaylin Starlight  [author] 3 Feb, 2017 @ 7:58pm
It opens up the ability to research them for everyone, but I don't know if the ai will or not. I assume the ai, given enough time, would research everything. To be clear, it is possible but uncertain.

Do the AI learn research these spells?
Kaylin Starlight  [author] 4 Jan, 2016 @ 4:32pm
Thanks for that. I'll see about uploading to Nexus anyway at some point.

solves that problem. (also bought this game on GOG)

Chibi Akagi, I would love to try your mods, however, Steam won't let me DL mods for a game not purchased on Steam (really sucks) since I purchased the game + DLCs from GOG. Any chance you could post your mods on the Nexus mod site? Also, I can't "like" your mod for the reason stated above.

I am glad that so many players are enjoying this. Have fun!

Thank you very much, This really broadens the ways to play the game so that one dosen't need to rush every dungeon in the game before the AI does.

Soon my enemies shall fall under my Embrace Darkness Bonedragons.

I'm going to go ahead and run this change, if anyone has concerns or other ideas, please comment.

Ok so I went in to check out the difference between Healing Showers and Great Healing Showers (I have not used these side by side in game yet). Here is what I found.

Healing Showers Knowledge Cost 400 Tier 4 Mana cost 15 Radius 2 Hit points restored 20 and it targets everything. Great Healing Showers Knowledge Cost 280 Tier 4 Mana cost 25 Radius 2 Hit points restored 12 and only targets friendlies.

I feel like the benefit of only working on allies doesn't call for dropping the heal by 8 points. This spell should be greater and on that note, cost more research points. I'm thinking 600 research points, radius 3, hit points restored 25.

A benefit of 5 hp, a larger radius, and the fact that it heals only your allies. Any thoughts?

I'd like to appologize for the lack of any changes, I picked up a second job recently.
SaintTodd 1 Dec, 2015 @ 4:25pm
If you can put the secret spells in their correct specialization, I for one, would be very interested.
flupo42 6 Nov, 2015 @ 1:31pm
when you get the time to work on this again, could you also fix Healing Showers? Right now Greater Healing Showers is much weaker than just Healing Showers.
Kaylin Starlight  [author] 4 Nov, 2015 @ 11:31pm
Basically I was looking at research costs for every summon and altogether, it's quite varried. I though maybe if I sifted through same tier but different cost summons, maybe I would see what reason might exist for one to cost more than another. Ultimately I don't feel like that is the right approach. I feel that it would be best if the spells were put into their appropriate skill sets. So an Earth Master would find Great Stoning in his research. I don't know for sure that I know how to do that, but I am certain it is possible. Question is, then, where does the Obsidian Dragon go for example.

As for progress, most of these changes don't take that long, I just have not had the time to look at all the summons.
Uber-n00bie 4 Nov, 2015 @ 12:26pm
How's progress? I'd love to see this mod with either far higher costs -- or even better yet, making some prerequisite spells in order to get these at a higher level (perhaps in addition to higher cost).
Kaylin Starlight  [author] 15 Oct, 2015 @ 11:06pm
I'm going to make a discussion to show my findings on research costs, as well as to determine the more favorable changes to make.
Ichthyic 15 Oct, 2015 @ 4:15am
works fine, but agree that the secret spells should have higher research costs than current.

at least double.

Kaylin Starlight  [author] 13 Oct, 2015 @ 1:48pm
I will take a closer look at the spells to try and balance those costs. I also noticed secret spells from the expansions and will try to add those in. Thank you for the feedback!
flupo42 13 Oct, 2015 @ 9:06am
Overall research cost balance:

(I play very few hours per week, and it will be a long while before I can see how AI is affected by this mod if at all. So am not sure if this following consideration is actually valid)

These secret spells tend to be just straight up better at whatever they do for the same mana cost when compared to most Specialization / Class variants.

If AI also gets access to these spell and if AI estimates costs/benefit of research it picks, these spells are likely to always be prioritized by AI.

So if you do any more fiddling with this mod, consider making each secret spell 200% or more research cost compared to other same tier/purpose research - hopefully the higher research cost will discourage all AI opponents from just focusing on these and avoid the risk of all AIs essentially turning into a single class of 'secret spell user'.

At a min, the 2 T4 summons costing 600 RP is 1/3 of all other research that grants access to T4s

great job!! :halloweener:
Kaylin Starlight  [author] 9 Oct, 2015 @ 4:16pm
You are welcome. I hope you enjoy it. Let me know if it throws off game balance too much. I was wondering if their costs should be adjusted.
flupo42 9 Oct, 2015 @ 2:40pm
thank you very much. The inaccessible secrets were a minor but ever present annoyance in my games. I wish steam allowed ratings for those who own the game via GOG
