Caramel КурскУкраїна 9 Sep, 2024 @ 1:45am
So yeah, how can I edit the files to just add ninjas to remove the atrocity that is generic crossbowmen that Japan never used but STILL keep the Zero?
Caramel КурскУкраїна 9 Sep, 2024 @ 1:30am
Why are people so obsessed with REMOVING units, instead of keeping original UU for flavor and adding a new one? Just replace generic crossbowmen with ninjas and let Japan keep a unique plane smh.

@[blank] Nobunaga was the first name of the famous Oda family member....

Wrong, the Iga and Koga ninja clans were loyal to Nobunaga and Tokugawa during the Sengoku Jidai.

ninjas were actually peasants who rebelled against the samurai opression
Breakersan 20 Mar, 2017 @ 2:11am
All it did was remove Zeros, I didn't get the Ninja.
QuitStalinAround 15 Jan, 2016 @ 10:22pm
>Implies ninja represent Japan better than Zeros
America4life1776 4 Jan, 2016 @ 9:13am
@yotosun that is just one theory for where ninjas originated
yotosun 28 Dec, 2015 @ 3:13pm
@logica just to let you know historians believe ninja culture originated from china, ninjas went to japan on japanese priate ships and planted their roots there and some were still in china. just so you know they werent "exclusively" japanese
4NG3L 19 Dec, 2015 @ 5:31am
A suggestion I have is to perhaps have the Landerkneckt replaced by Ninja, owing to their mercenary status.
4NG3L 19 Dec, 2015 @ 5:30am
The Ninja (Shinobi) WERE an insurgency, but they were also mercenaries... hitmen for hire, to be specific. They opposed the Shogunate, but weren't opposed to accepting contracts to kill high-profile targets (like Daimyo some other Daimyo wanted eliminated). They were commoners, peasent farmers who were very resourceful and used damn near anything as a weapon. Samurai despised them largely due to their lack of honour in combat. Ninja Warrior is an innaccurate term, since ninja were assassins, not warriors. And yeah, they were exclusively Japanese.
HurtYog 13 Dec, 2015 @ 1:50pm
by the way ninja were farmers that were in opositin to the samuri ragime just saying
McDiezel 11 Dec, 2015 @ 11:20am
@Xavier that would fall under assassination and espionage
Z3r0_ 10 Dec, 2015 @ 10:18pm
My only complaint with this is that the Ninja weren't fighters so much as spies, with assassination being implied as part of their job. It would've made more sense to make them a fast melee unit with a stealth promotion that keeps them from being spotted, much like submarines have.

Another option for a unique unit that would've represented Japan's military power in the 20th Century rather than the Zero would've been a Yamato-class Battleship or something of that sort (basically just make a Battleship with reduced movement but higher combat strength and firing range).
Skull One (Shrout) 11 Nov, 2015 @ 9:36pm
@Bare and no ninja's were not chinese nor were they ever stop trolling
Skull One (Shrout) 11 Nov, 2015 @ 9:34pm
ninja's were not part of Bushido since there is nothing honorable about assasinations, or sneaking about. originaly they were peasants that learned to fight when the common people were forbiden weapons in order to combat the Yakuza and Wake Pirates (should be a lesson in this about banning weapons to try and stop criminals) eventualy clan lords began using them when they needed to eliminate a rival or a threat but could not dirty thier hands or attack them for reasons of honor. they were also often used as scouts, and spies. the video game depictions of them as these ultimate killing machines are false. most ninja assasins were actualy female since they could poison a target easier and less risk was involved. direct attacks by ninjas were rare.
dusara217 11 Nov, 2015 @ 10:20am
Ninjas were Japanese insurgents (originally) - they were essentially Japanese Peasants that learned how to fight (think the Rebels from Star Wars, only Japanese).
Nyxon 10 Nov, 2015 @ 10:58pm
no they not... they are a busido art of the shadow and been in japanese culture .....
cage 1 Nov, 2015 @ 6:10pm
y'know ninjas were chinese
zenwizard 25 Oct, 2015 @ 4:38pm
@TheMetalfreak360 Yeah, I enabled it and then played a brand new game with Japan. Played all the way to the modern age. Got Zero, but no ninja. I just bought Brave New World, so I might try it again.
LasagnaMan12 24 Oct, 2015 @ 11:12am
But dont u like the Zero that doesnt require anything to build it?
2DSoul 22 Oct, 2015 @ 8:52am
Honestly, I felt the crazy-good part about the ninja was being unlocked at Guilds more than anything. Machinery is kind of an annoying tech to get, since I like going fast education or chivalry. Either way, English longbows carry over their ridiculous OP +1 range and Chu Ko Nus carry over double attack to Gatling Guns, and those promotions are arguably stronger than ignoring terrain cost.
mikeburnfire  [author] 21 Oct, 2015 @ 5:11am
That was intentional. Being able to ignore terrain cost is a crazy-good ability, so it doesn't carry over upon upgrade.
2DSoul 20 Oct, 2015 @ 11:07pm
Note that the ninjas don't keep their unique promotion when they upgrade into Gatling Guns.

Not sure if it was intentional or overlooked.
2DSoul 20 Oct, 2015 @ 9:20am
Yep, it's working properly now, thanks OP

I'm having a lot of fun with it. Guilds crossbows that ignore terain cost are pretty strong lol. Especially since I found out you can skip construction altogether to get them :L

This mod makes Japan actually feel like a tier 2 civ lol.
mikeburnfire  [author] 20 Oct, 2015 @ 4:48am
Oh, I found the problem: I uploaded the wrong file. Just re-uploaded with the correct file this time. Sorry for the confusion!
ForeverMore 20 Oct, 2015 @ 4:31am
The 'author' doesn't even realise they were changed to melee lol :(
swordclan6 20 Oct, 2015 @ 12:35am
The ninja was a ranged unit that was cool, as they threw firey darts. Then there was an update, and now they are melee, and frankly, not as cool.

Whoever did the update to this mod ruined them, and they are not nearly as fun as they used to be.
2DSoul 19 Oct, 2015 @ 8:37pm
Strange, the ninjas are melee units for me as well. 16 Strength, +25% bonus when attacking... Huh?
mikeburnfire  [author] 19 Oct, 2015 @ 1:24pm
They are, as the description says, ranged units.
ForeverMore 19 Oct, 2015 @ 4:12am
What happened to make them melee? they were range before, is there a way to turn them back into range?
TheMetalfreak360 18 Oct, 2015 @ 1:12pm
@Zenwizard did you go to "mods" and enable the mod and then play a game? Just wondering, many people make that mistake.
mikeburnfire  [author] 18 Oct, 2015 @ 1:08pm
This mod has no other requirements.
zenwizard 18 Oct, 2015 @ 12:30pm
The "ninja" never showed up for me. Playing vanilla Civ V. If this has requirements, you should specify in the description. Really wanted it to work.
Keum 18 Oct, 2015 @ 11:56am
@Dan_Mc They were but they were also used to kill important people and burn supplys
TheMetalfreak360 17 Oct, 2015 @ 5:51am
Question: Are you able to make them sabotage or something like that? Like I know you can pillage, but wondering if they could get a ability to sabotage enemies. Maybe against city states, "kill rival envoy" for example, where you decrease the influence from a rival nation.
mikeburnfire  [author] 16 Oct, 2015 @ 9:27pm
I'm just going to quote the first line of the Wikipedia entry for Ninjas:

A ninja or shinobi was a covert agent or mercenary in feudal Japan. The functions of the ninja included espionage, sabotage, infiltration, assassination and combat in certain situations."
McDiezel 16 Oct, 2015 @ 9:25pm
Ninja weren't combatants. they were assassins and espionage
TheMetalfreak360 16 Oct, 2015 @ 7:40am
This seems interesting, I feel that adding the Zero was like adding the Pe3 for the Russians, seems odd and not fitting, could understood a T-34 maybe... Anyways, cheers for the mod, might test it out later. Really cool idea, and much more fitting then the Zero.
RoninSho 12 Oct, 2015 @ 5:05pm
I'm guessing Mr. Brosevelt here is trying a little too hard to troll. More relevantly though, this is a really cool, I agree that the zero was pretty underwhelming. Props to you creator you've created the second mod for civ I think I'll actually use.
Fenragon 12 Oct, 2015 @ 9:40am
@Franklin Ninjas are Japanese.
Eli_The_Grey 11 Oct, 2015 @ 3:03pm
JAPAN DID USE NINJAS! CHINA HAD NINJAS AND JAPAN HAD SAMURIA! AHHHHHHHH
mikeburnfire  [author] 10 Oct, 2015 @ 4:34am
It is the same strength as a Crossbowman, but ignores terrain cost and is available at Guilds.
Fenragon 10 Oct, 2015 @ 12:52am
It is available earlier than what? Crossbowmen? Does it have a strength change in any way?
NiteOwl 9 Oct, 2015 @ 7:21pm
Oh this is awesome, thanks for this!
