No Longer works. Does not show up in blocks list and generates errors.

love the concept, don't we have gas giants now in SE? I think i saw them when i went through a list of planets to add to my playthrough. If we get like a Hydron gas giant and a ramscope only able to collect there then those gas giants have a purpose as the solar gas station hrhr and a different way than just mining for ice. If there is a sweet spot in collection, not too fast not too slow, then this could become a gameloop i suppose, maybe not the most thrilling one, but just wait for those reavers while collecting gas ^^

@Bluestar33 technically there is some science behind it. Questionable though if it would be economically viable at non-relativistic speeds, or outside atmosphere or nebulae. Ramscoop is pretty established tech in many close to reality SF universes.
General plausible idea here has two premises:
1. there is no true void - even between galaxies there can be some rogue atoms, much more inside solar systems
2. hydrogen is most common atom for the most of universe's lifetime
Based on that, if you fly around (or keep still and look at the star that will bombard you with solar winds), you can find a way to gather the atoms that are coming your way.

How does it work scientifically? Is it at least scientific?
Great Value Mo1stCritikal 5 Feb, 2023 @ 6:58pm
does it still work it seems like it doesnt it justs takes ice from my ship and converts it like an h2 o2 gen
Venomspawn 10 Aug, 2021 @ 4:59am
Haven't tested it myself, but interested in putting it on my server. How much hydrogen would you generate from a small/large ship with 100% efficiency going at 100m/s?
Paladinboyd 7 May, 2021 @ 5:30pm
Would the Ramscoop work if I attach them to a rotor to make them spin?
Blu 17 Apr, 2021 @ 3:16pm
At 100m/s limit is it able to create enough ice to sustain replenish o2 for a one or two engineers in cockpit? or is it only viable in worlds with heightened speed limits?

Love the mod, makes ships so much more survivable. However, can I edit out the "blocked" status on my version of the mod? I built a large ship with internal ramscoops and they don't work. I didn't realize the ramscoops cared about anything other then direction of travel.

Thanks!
Paladinboyd 31 Jul, 2020 @ 1:17pm
Are the ramsoop's airtight?
Hull Breach 15 May, 2020 @ 4:48am
Is this still working? It's so much more immersive than the "oxygen farm as hydrogen farm" mods.
DMMWolf 31 Aug, 2019 @ 2:11pm
I always loved this though I have yearned for updated appearances for the scoops themselves. Does it still work?
jackik 12 Oct, 2018 @ 3:40pm
You can do that, it's what i did. You need to consider though that they use the movement of their grid, so you need to attach a different grid (via connectors) to the rotor (balanced).
There is a trick to building such a setup in a single go:
First you build the attaching points on the rotor like so

oooo o=any connecting block =:conveyors
=CC= C=connectors facing eachother

then you activate the connectors and then remove connecting blocks and there you have a different grid for a ramscoop.
Beware when using it for dynamic grids! Shaking like crazy~
Church.exe 12 Oct, 2018 @ 2:59pm
if you put these on a rotor do they generate hydrogen? If not they should, that would be a great system, less production but it doesnt require Ice only power
jackik 29 May, 2018 @ 7:16am
it's normal that it collects very little. The idle status might really just be because of the server.
I always use it with unlimited speed mods...
Soibur 28 May, 2018 @ 9:43am
ok it collects some ice, but at 100 m / s is still there "idle"

and the amount it collects at the end is kind of weird. very little

should I change the maximum speed?
jackik 28 May, 2018 @ 3:58am
Are you sure it's moving at a speed that would normally have it working? Also server? That might be the problem.
Soibur 27 May, 2018 @ 10:45am
seems to be broken? playing on survival server and it doesn't collect. it says idle everytime
Anarch Cassius 12 Feb, 2018 @ 12:34am
"also when every i mine ice the ramscoops pull ice and eat it wasting the ice and making no hydro is this a known bug?"

Sort of. The Ramscoops seem able to function as ineffecient H2 Generators and will do so if on the conveyor system. They will however make Hydro, just at a worse rate and with no O2. It may they will waste Ice if Hydro tanks are full but Oxygen tanks exist, due to game logic inflexibility, but they definitely can make Hydro from the Ice.

Also Hydro collection is very slow even with normal speeds, so with Light Speed mod I wouldn't expect noticable results without massive arrrays.
NeverKlever 11 Sep, 2017 @ 10:34pm
so i got the light speed mod on and moving at 2000/ms the ramscoops do not make hydro you mention that its based off world speed limit and the light speed mod has a 300,000/ms limit does that mean i need to get up to that speed to see any collection? also when every i mine ice the ramscoops pull ice and eat it wasting the ice and making no hydro is this a known bug?
jackik 23 Aug, 2017 @ 4:47am
i can tell you, i does work. however as they use grid velocity you need to put them on the arm via connector. i build them normally and then add the connector to then remove the rest. it works okay, but beware of clang. and also beware of the force this exerts on the rest of the ship/station(if it ever loses voxel conneection).
Tanya Sapien 22 Aug, 2017 @ 10:15pm
Question, would these work on a spinning armature? I saw from previous comments that they need clear line of sight and are based on grid velocity, so I'm assuming putting them directly on a spinning arm wouldn't work, but what if you had the scoops docked to the ends of a spinning arm using connectors? Just speculating here and I plan on doing some field studies, but I do have plans on setting up a nebula scenario map and having spinning hydrogen harvesters would be neat.
jackik 20 May, 2017 @ 1:17pm
it would be way to cpu heavy otherwise
jackik 20 May, 2017 @ 1:16pm
thought so
Gwindalmir  [author] 20 May, 2017 @ 11:00am
It uses the grid velocity.
jackik 19 May, 2017 @ 9:40am
i used it the same way Skallabjorn did. but i have a question. do they look at speed of the block or at the ship speed? i've only ever used them on connectors that way.
I take you havnt read much Niven lol
Gwindalmir  [author] 17 Mar, 2017 @ 8:22pm
They will not work if there's a block in front.
cy-one 17 Mar, 2017 @ 3:08pm
How well do these work if there's a block in front of them? (like the "grill" window thing, or corner-lights for sweet viz XD)
Will these need a magnetic envelope bubble and General Products #4 hull for complete protection?
Skallabjorn 26 Feb, 2017 @ 5:25am
Thanks, been using the scoops, they rock, did an experiment with a cluster of large ones ( 4 ) of 4 radiating arms 30 + convey orsections long each on a rotpor at max rpm, it actually did collect H2 with that length of radial from the hub ( due to the velocity they reach at greater distance from hub at 60 rpm ) so a spinning scoop array at the base of a station.... :)
Gwindalmir  [author] 26 Feb, 2017 @ 1:40am
@Skallabjorn, Not the station one, no. You can attach the ramscoops to small ships though.
Skallabjorn 25 Feb, 2017 @ 9:01pm
Ah, found it, another mod was interfering in the seeing of it, thanks, any chances of down sizing it to be a 1 x 1 x 3 small ship block size ( with proportional production of course ) to fit a small block small conveyor system?
Gwindalmir  [author] 24 Feb, 2017 @ 9:28pm
@Skallabjorn, The ramscoops are exactly designed for scooping while moving. There is a static collector though that's standalone and different (looks like O2 generator).
Skallabjorn 24 Feb, 2017 @ 8:47pm
seems to work as a fuel scoop but not a static collector in the sun for hydrogen ( in survival mode )
staficus 27 Jan, 2017 @ 12:41pm
no survival
Gwindalmir  [author] 26 Jan, 2017 @ 1:51pm
Are you in creative?
staficus 26 Jan, 2017 @ 11:09am
ok its connected to my ships systems via conv and i got 100% speed but it says idle any ideas?
ChozoSR388 15 Jan, 2017 @ 9:42pm
Fuel Scoops in Space Engineers? Now we're talikn'!
Rastro 4 Jan, 2017 @ 3:55pm
Set up a station with solar panels, and put these on rotor arms, you have a way to farm hydrogen.
Gwindalmir  [author] 4 Jan, 2017 @ 11:00am
People have asked that since the beginning. Honestly I have no idea. It might, but you won't get very much.
Rastro 4 Jan, 2017 @ 8:24am
That is really clever! Would that work???
Tom 11 Dec, 2016 @ 8:51am
Could I set up a system with pistons and rotors to spin the scoops in a circle to generate hydrogen?
Gwindalmir  [author] 6 Dec, 2016 @ 6:59pm
@Karthaan, Yes.
Karthaan 6 Dec, 2016 @ 10:06am
So does Collection rate scale with max ship speed (same actual speed, different max speed => different collection rate?)
Cheetah 14 Oct, 2016 @ 3:54pm
Btw. I did these features — my Xenon Ramscoops now incorporate custom fuel (SpaceXenon instead of Ice) and they have actual boost in atmo (up to x4).
Gwindalmir  [author] 20 Sep, 2016 @ 12:32pm
@LjSpike, I'm sorry, I didn't understand what you said.
Oddity 20 Sep, 2016 @ 10:50am
@Phoenix I've found it hasn't worked, on stable? Its been a while since i've used it, it might work now, but it was having some bug, which also allowed large ship blocks from it to occur on small ships?
