Very amazing map design

I am trying to play these brilliant chambers but also analyse why they are so challenging. I think it is because in many you have to chain perfect moves together, portal here then another in the right spot there, if you fail then a fizzler closes or you fall and must start the chain again from the beginning. I found the secret is to work out what are your options for opening moves and then think from the end, like here, the only way to have the lightbridge toggleable, and exit possible, was to have a portal in the centre by the entrance and one on the surface facing the receiver inside the fizzler as a path for the laser. The only way to get a portal in the centre and be able to get back was to use the lightbridge to hop over the wall beside it, and the only way to do that (judging by the white surfaces high up) was to be inside the fizzler, with the cube and the fizzler deactivated...

Like this, you can then build up a chain of steps to succeed. I like the way Ben makes something possible but the other way round (it is impossible to shoot a portal from the corner by the entrance to the portal diagonally across the chamber, but you can go near there behind the mesh and place the portal correctly then go back) things like that always have me stumped for a while as I tend to discount them and move on. I think working these out help you solve problems in life the same way. How do others approach these?

The first time I tried it it just seemed impossible. I had to try it with a fresh perspective another day and it just clicked.

Seems like a very popular map, and I can see why, this solution is great. super subtle and I love the angle panel usage especially. Love the exit condition, Faved ^^

Yep, these chambers are getting harder. And better.

I don’t even want to imagine what’s after Polarity when I had as hard of a time as I did with it. Yes, I’m smarter, and older now, but I wasn’t exactly dumb or inexperienced when I first tried that behemoth of a puzzle either.

I found the hardest part to be figuring out how to get the light bridge to the starting area , though I did it a bit too directly at first and later found the more useful way to get over there with it.

One of the angles was a bit unnecessarily tough I found, but I personally got it first try, so can’t really complain. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ (I imagine that last one people got stuck even trying to figure out for a while…)

Difficulty: 6.25/10
Enjoyed: 7.75/10

Took me sooo long to figure this one out, but the reward is worth it! Thank you

Hello Ben 77,I’ve found some extra ways to solve this puzzle. When you put the redirection cube to the room behind the fizzler, you can put two portals at the very left and right side on the wall and activate the receptor at a tight angle. Before you reach the final step to put another portal on the opposite wall, you can direct the laser at a tilted angle so it can be lead to the receptor through the farther portal.

One of the best puzzles of all time, made more elegant by the recent update :)

O my gosh...... It is good to know that a solution really exists. Simple minds like mine really have a hard time with this one. What a satisfaction when you solve it........

After Polarity this was the second deviously crafted and in the same way rewarding map I played in a row. Again, thumbs up and a fav!
Getting that light bridge up high was the hardest part by far. Actually it was the only hard part as it is the centerpiece of the map ^^
CoffeeCoder 20 Mar, 2022 @ 6:58am
This seem to be changed to just the first part now? its really easy now

Nice update!

Nice puzzle! It took me a bit to notice the high portal surfaces ; otherwise everything went smoothly.

Genius level :) At one point i was confused thinking to myself for one minute "This didn't work before". Very well designed and very rewarding.

Amazingly intricate, I figured it out eventually. Pretty much my level of skill. One level more of steps and I would start to get stuck.

Really good one!
Almost gave up, but managed to solve it after a few breaks :)

BEST CHAMBER IN PORTAL 2 !

Fantastic puzzle once again. I recognized this map after a few minutes, had solved it sometime last year but the recent "update" has really screwed my queue up, not sure if I didn't rate it back then or not but definitely thumbs up now.

My poor head...
I sat there for a good 10 minutes on each step of the puzzle. One of the hardest, yet most satisfying levels I've played in a long, long time. The part that stumped me the most was getting over the grating near the entrance with the light bridge (luckily I noticed the surface early on :D) .
This puzzle was a blessing to my left brain, I thank you for creating it! ('U')

Really great puzzle! Thanks for creating.

This is the most clever chamber I've played. I would literally lay in bed at night thinking about how this could be possible. Your chambers are consistently magnificent, thanks so much for making them, loads of fun.
canticle 14 Dec, 2019 @ 1:52am
What fun... in hindsight. Working through the part between where you bring the cube behind the fizzler and where you finally get the light bridge up high was brutal. Four or five (I don't remember any more) steps that had me searching for 15 -20 minutes each until I found something that seemed trivial but also felt like a tiny step forward. I should, but am hesitant to, play through again, bucause despite solving it once, I'm not sure I could reconstruct everything I did. But, what a great feeling when you finally get those breakthrough moments and exit!

A single strategy of portal preservation is enough to turn any Portal puzzle into a Top-tier satisfying puzzle. Multiple portal preservation in one map, however, is enough to drive even a genius mad. But this makes sense, since it seems this is one of his earlier ones.
Modoc73 19 Jul, 2019 @ 6:20pm
I spent an hour of this yesterday and just couldn't get it. Then today realised there was a place I could put a portal that I didn't see yesterday! I was only a few moves away, argh. Great map, thumbs up and fav!

Yes! Finally! Third try's the charm :D I was so overcomplicating it, after getting a portal opposite the fizzler receptor it was smooth sailing
Mikeastro 14 Mar, 2019 @ 4:02pm
Hey there - I really enjoyed this map, it looked gorgeous and the puzzle was really clever. I recorded my blind run with commentary (which you can find here ) - I played Addition as well, which was also really good. Just in case you'd be interested :]

I took a while to adjust the angle; a sign somewhere could help saving time

Just replayed this map for the first time in a while. Still really good.

Truly awesome puzzle, it's a wonderful demonstration of a map whose difficulty relies in the layout. Took a fairly amount of time to solve. However I'm not too sure why you added these two connections at the end, seems to me you could've just made the exit open all along but unreachable. Still, added to mmy favourites.

Extremely satisfying to play.
bitnykk 11 May, 2018 @ 4:22am
Excellent design, as usual, just may be lacking a few directions (logos, idk) to be a bit more widely playable. 2nd hardest i played in Ben's series (and to say, in whole portal2 catalog) so far ! Tried a lot of combinations but was stucked in middle & couldn't figure out without checking youtube where i found the accurate dirty angle trick with 2 portals on right wall ; once that passed, i could finish the puzzle with few more experiments ... and then, offgame, i "replayed" the whole level in mind and figured out what i now think is the initially intended solution of crossing back down then recrossing upway ; just verified ingame and working ! All in all, amazing level but real difficulty is nearly hardcore :)
