Some areas do get a little too laggy with how much NPCs get spawned at the same time. If this ever gets a remaster, this should be one of the areas to improve upon because as fun as it is to slaughter through massive hordes of Combine like a Serious Sam clone, the amount of NPCs on screen at once, especially in that final stretch towards the hover tank, can cause frame rates to drop and boy do they drop HARD.
A really good point of this map, compared to the finale, is the encouragement to take multiple routes. Yeah, they all ultimately head to the same end goal, but the different routes reward players with extra weapons and ammo. ANyone playing this with an ammo limiter should turn it off because you are gonna need those 1000+ Rockets and Combine Balls down the line.
Overall, it's a rough but fun map. Fun for solo play even if the map was intended for co-op.
Not gonna lie, that final boss with the hover tank was rough, especially since I had to go underneath the damn thing and fire a Combine Ball into each thruster.
Also, thx for the info and hints too
Overall though, I am just happy to hear you really liked it. Thank you so much again for playing it!
This map has been around for a long time, so I will let you in on a little secret. On the first map, during the last big fight before the second boss, there is an alley that has a fire escape. If you can get up to it, you might find something up there if you look around and shoot enough! Also, there are three secrets up there, try to find them!
You might be surprised by the biggest secret of all, which is hidden in a little metal box, which you'll need to find the button to open it up. It's near another secret that's up there.
Take care and have a good day!
I definitely should update a few things though, like the one song that cut out. I am not sure if that was an add on bug or if that song didn't have loop on, since that part actually has three different songs that play depending on what path you go down if I remember correctly.
It was interesting to see the bosses being fought without the recommended weapon, which is the Combine Pulse Rifle, specifically the handy alt fire mode. The part when your brother spawned in the sports cars had me laughing so much lol
I just livestreamed it today, if you are unable to complete it or if you are stuck, you can watch it in my channel in this link: https://youtu.be/nggZGXk3Pjg
But due to my aforementioned lack of drive or passion, having little knowledge of actually coding and programming from the ground up on Source (let alone net coding for co op), along with other reasons, I just don't have any interest in doing such projects. I was originally planning on making a Half Life Alyx single player version of my Zombie Master maps, but that's kind of on hold since my lack of interest in creating anything lately has dulled me.
But I digress. Thank you again for playing this old map I made long ago now, its hard to believe how fast the years went! Take care and have a good night!
I do agree that the map is definitely unfriendly for solo play, it's part of the reason I put the disclaimer in workshop description that it's best played with friends or strangers on your first time. It is definitely beatable alone, but it will require a lot of taking cover in the few areas that are there and attacking in bursts by having the sprint on at almost all times and strafing.
As much as I would like to do a source mod of this and the prequel maps I made in Zombie Master, a fantastic source mod, I don't really have the drive or interest to create it on my own. Most importantly however, this map and the ZM maps are driven by camaraderie and I'd more then anything would prefer having a functional co op option in place first and foremost.
Take care, have a good day and stay safe!
its so fun and it never gets old.
will you make a part 3?
You can add on supported Source games by clicking the controller icon on the bottom right corner of the main menu. Just click the controller icon, scroll the pop up box and check off Half Life 2: Episode 2; to be on the safe side, restart your game and give it another try, sorry for any inconvience! I hope you can get it resolved and enjoy the rest of Kako Blast!.
Sorry for the late response! Take care and have a good one.
