Does this mod also set all the diseases to have end dates of 9999.12.31? Because if not once you pass 1452 there will be no plague on the map anymore. (The end dates for diseases are found in the common/diseases file, which on windows is found in under the steam/steamapps/common/Crusader Kings 2).

Need to note that enabling this mod will prevent a player from playing non-bookmarked dates in the When the World Stopped Making Sense mod.

If subscribing normally doesn't work then you can follow the steps in this guide to install your mods.

Could you do a tutorial on how to install this mod, please? I signed up, came a zipp folder with 0 kb empty. And I do not know what to do to make the game work with the mod... Does anyone there know how to do it?

CK2 hangs and freezes on the loading screen for every mod AFAIK, I wouldn't worry about it @Junoh
Junoh  [author] 8 Dec, 2021 @ 2:05pm
It starts just fine for me. I could even get into a game. CK2 does have problems and hangs on the loading screens, even freezing entirely if you tab away from it while it's loading. After starting the game, try not to touch anything for a few minutes and see if it reaches the main menu.
Junoh  [author] 8 Dec, 2021 @ 1:57pm
@Lisek I've never had that problem. I'll try to see if my game starts with just this mod loaded. This mod only modifies one file so it shouldn't be an issue. If I don't get back to you, check your mod folder and verify the integrity of the game's files. Sometimes mods leave folders and files behind when you don't want them to or a game's files get corrupted.

Mod folder locations:
Windows: ~\Documents\Paradox Interactive\Crusader Kings II\mod\
Linux: ~/.paradoxinteractive/Crusader Kings II/mod/
Mac: ~/Documents/Paradox Interactive/Crusader Kings II/mod/

why game crashes in loading screen with this mod?
Junoh  [author] 19 Jul, 2020 @ 6:17am
This mod is the same as when I first made it. There was a period of time where I changed it to allow for earlier starting dates but that caused other problems that I didn't expect so I changed it back to how it used to be and created an alternate version. I don't think I'll ever need to update it but if anybody finds any problems with it then I'd be willing to take a look and see if I can fix it.

OK but we'll happy to see this mod not dead. Thank you.
Junoh  [author] 18 Jul, 2020 @ 9:55am
Is it not working anymore? I'm currently between computers and can't work on this mod for another week or so.
Мечик 10 Jul, 2020 @ 12:50pm
update please

This version will no longer attempt to give people an early start so that there's a version of this mod without the mercenary bug. I always meant to create two versions of the mod so I'll use this change as an opportunity to do that.
Junoh  [author] 3 Nov, 2019 @ 4:34pm
Check out the new version which is linked in the description if you want to start before the year 769. I need some people to test it out for me.
Junoh  [author] 3 Nov, 2019 @ 3:49pm
I'm not sure why but you can't change your date to before 1066 when you haven't selected a bookmarked date and you can't change the date if you pick a bookmarked date. It's possible that I'm just forgetting how it used to work but I messed around with it for a bit. I'll see if I can create a different version with a bookmark at the year 629 or earlier if it'd allow it.

As long as this mod allows you to play until the year 9999 then it's still technically working but I'll need to modify it to get rid of the earlier start date so that it doesn't break someone's game. This one will remain 9999 but I'll give the other one a different name with 9999 somewhere in the title.
BareKnuckleChamp 3 Nov, 2019 @ 1:13pm
This mod seemed to stop working. I cant go before Jan 1 769
Let's be happy! 26 Oct, 2019 @ 6:47am
please 3.3ver
Junoh  [author] 15 Oct, 2019 @ 10:49am
Yes, that does seem to be a problem with the mod. Other people have mentioned that as well.
r3xm0rt1s 15 Oct, 2019 @ 6:11am
The mod appears to make a mess of mercenary companies. In 1066 start they have tens of thousands of men (and cost accordingly to maintain). Disabling the mod fixed the issue in an existing game so I am fairly confident it is this mod at fault. Perhaps because mercenary companies grow over time?
Junoh  [author] 27 Sep, 2019 @ 8:48am
It has to do with how the history of the world is shaped by the devs. If you had a different map that you created which used a history that went all the way back to year 1 or used something that rewrites the history like the shattered world and random world features then it'd be possible to play during those times. It has been a while since I've played with a generated map so I can't remember how to make one.
NeM 27 Sep, 2019 @ 4:24am
I tried to launch without Shattered World, and I cant play before 1/1/305, so, it seems there is a link.
NeM 27 Sep, 2019 @ 4:17am
And if I dont :p ?
Junoh  [author] 26 Sep, 2019 @ 6:23pm
If you have Holy Fury then you can use the Shattered and Random world options. I'm not sure how else to do it.
NeM 26 Sep, 2019 @ 4:49am
Me too I have an issue, I can select 1/1/1 but there is no county available before 1/1/629 :o
Any idea ?
Junoh  [author] 16 Jun, 2019 @ 10:28pm
Some other mods will change the file mentioned in the description. I haven't played Crusader Kings 2 in a while but there shouldn't be any problems with the mod itself(except the mercenaries bug from changing the start date).
Smol_Elf_Boi 9 Jan, 2019 @ 9:25pm
i cant seem to get it to start me at 1.1.1.
Junoh  [author] 11 Sep, 2018 @ 12:21pm
I have it set for year 1 and I remember playing it from before the original start date but I haven't played it ina while so I don't know if things have changed.
Philipp Sir. 2 Jul, 2018 @ 10:58am
probably stupid question but im new where can I "start the mod" cause I want to begin earlier as 7th century
meraco 28 Jun, 2018 @ 9:37pm
Ok that seems to have done the trick.. Ran the year and it went past 1453.. :)
Not sure why the mod didnt trigger and only manual alteration of the default Defines did it..

But this could be my fault.. I been running the same save for over 450 years, and taking some 300 hours to do it over a number of RL years.. so with updates over time, and now my having to lock in ver 2.7.2. this may have created some type of conflict..

In any case thanks for pointing me to the defines file.. :)
meraco 28 Jun, 2018 @ 8:16am
I checked to make sure all other mods did not consist of "defines" conflicts.. Didnt see any.. but when looking at the steamapp folder I noticed the default defines still had 1453 as end date.. I altered it to your values.. tonight Ill load a 1452 save and play out the year to see what happens.. :)
Junoh  [author] 28 Jun, 2018 @ 1:47am
I'm honestly not sure if that would ruin the mod. I've never tried doing that. If another mod includes the default defines.txt then it can ruin it though.
meraco 27 Jun, 2018 @ 7:32pm
Is it possible because I added the mod to an existing save game rather than starting a new one with it?
meraco 27 Jun, 2018 @ 7:28pm
Doesn't seem to work.. I get to the year 1453 and the game gives me an end screen total with no option to continue.. I am missing something?
Junoh  [author] 19 Feb, 2018 @ 9:49pm
I'll probably need to revert to the earlier start date. Once I'm a little less busy(probably next week) I'll do an update to the mod to fix the problem.
Aha 19 Feb, 2018 @ 6:36pm
Troops of mercenary bands are doubled every century from the beginning of the game, so if the start is 1.1.1, mercenaries could be ten or more times powerful than vanilla, just insane.
Meat Grinder 14 Nov, 2017 @ 7:58pm
I can confirm that its this mod that breaks the mercenaries
tomknudsen37 28 Sep, 2017 @ 12:58am
I started in 769 got to 830 before needing mercs and was bankrupt 3 months later dispite having 3000+ gold.

I started a new game using each mod indepently to find the culprit.
Junoh  [author] 27 Sep, 2017 @ 3:40pm
What year did you start in and what other mods are you using? I don't think I'll be able to fix that but if I can confirm it then I'll add a warning on the page.
tomknudsen37 27 Sep, 2017 @ 1:03am
For some reason this mod inflates mercenary bands.

roman legions went from 11250 men too 100000+ men
with a price of 44gold per month too 400+ per month

This happened to all groups except nomad mercs.

changing starting point back to 1066 fixed this.

thanks for the mod
pierre1987 15 Sep, 2017 @ 11:48am
You should have put the Tudors in it like Henry VI Henry VII and else but sometime character change name and things because the king instead of Henrique IV of castile in 1500 its Enrique II , but i marry him to an peasant woman who have the name of the one or similarity to Joan Juana.
Junoh  [author] 11 Jul, 2017 @ 3:22pm
The new(and only) update changes the start date to 1.1.1 so that if this mod works with whatever other mods you're using then you can start at whatever date you want to. This is just to give people more freedom of where to begin and an (almost) unlimited amount of time to play the game. This also might fix compatibility issues with other mods that require going back to an earlier time period--although I haven't been notified of that happening yet.

As long as it's not breaking any mods then it should be fine. I don't think that it would but if it does then I suggest temporarily disabling the mod and reporting it here. That way I can check it out myself.
Brutan 11 Jul, 2017 @ 2:32pm
Hey Junoh. How come I'm able to go back in time to play as characters who should be dead? For example, in the A Game of Thrones mod I'm able to go all the way back to the year 1 and play as the founder of House Stark.
Junoh  [author] 15 Jun, 2017 @ 9:10am
If anybody has problems with the new version, just post here. I'm usually not on Steam but since I just updated the mod I'll leave it running for longer over the next few days.
Junoh  [author] 15 Jun, 2017 @ 8:18am
After doing a test it seems like the earliest you can actually start is year 50 while the latest is year 1521. Any times outside of those will not allow you to play them simply because there are no playable characters. It might be different for people with other mods and expansions though. I can still go through with the change.
Junoh  [author] 15 Jun, 2017 @ 8:10am
Currently testing a mod that uses those dates. I got distracted by Suikoden.
Lickspittle 8 May, 2017 @ 3:47am
Ok yes this is awesome! Thanks!
Junoh  [author] 8 May, 2017 @ 12:44am
I'll have to reinstall the game to do that. It might be a couple of days until I do that since I don't have much storage space.
Lickspittle 7 May, 2017 @ 3:20pm
Can't you edit it to this?

start_date = 1.1.1
last_start_date = 9000.1.1
end_date = 9999.12.29

character = {
}

diplomacy = {
}

economy = {
}

military = {
}
Lickspittle 7 May, 2017 @ 3:19pm
This is what your post was.

Not sure what you mean. My modded defines.txt looks exactly like the one for the current version of the game besides the end date. I don't have the two newest expansions though so I don't know if there's a difference.

This is what the contents of the vanilla defines.txt looks like on my side.

start_date = 1066.9.15
last_start_date = 1337.1.1
end_date = 1453.1.1

character = {
}

diplomacy = {
}

economy = {
}

military = {
}
