macelharen 30 Sep, 2017 @ 1:28am
oh hey, btw, didn't see this question in the comments nor an explanation in the description: is this generic &/or vanilla class based?
Rex705 4 Sep, 2017 @ 2:33pm
I would like an update for WOTC :)
Nasarog 29 Aug, 2017 @ 11:50am
Willl this be updated for War of the Chosen?
eulogy 14 Jun, 2017 @ 10:49pm
Hey, I don't want you to censor on my behalf. I don't need your help deciding what is too offensive for me to read. Is there a list of the nicknames you removed so I can add them back in myself?
Dragon32 25 Apr, 2017 @ 11:21am
@darktoto:
Look for "ISky's Big LW2 Name Mod"
darktoto 25 Apr, 2017 @ 12:50am
with the little LW2 tag, would be perfect :D we really miss a central autority for mods..
darktoto 25 Apr, 2017 @ 12:49am
awwww come on make it LW2 compatible please :'(
NoLiMiT72X 1 Mar, 2017 @ 8:18am
It would be nice if it was Lw2 compatible. I follow you and wait for the time. Tks anyway to willing look for it.
Reset 24 Feb, 2017 @ 9:25pm
@Lyrae thank you for the heads up! I was just about to download it as a suggestion along with LW2.
Lyrae  [author] 26 Jan, 2017 @ 12:27pm
Not currently compatible with Long War 2. There shouldn't be any issues but Long War classes draw names from their own pools. Will update when I find time, thanks.

Hi there,
I've been working on a class pack, and need a bunch of nicknames... Any chance I can use yours if I credit appropriately?
IllI 14 Jul, 2016 @ 8:14pm
@Dragon32: But there is Chinese language in game,so I'd like to play the game with only one language which looks more comfortable.what a pity.U doing a great job though.
Dragon32 14 Jul, 2016 @ 2:43pm
@Evan Teh Turtle: For those custom classes I've seen you need to look in the mod's XComGame.int file
@Farewell: There's no XComGame.chn here, so no.
IllI 14 Jul, 2016 @ 5:57am
Does it support Chinese?
Evan 13 Jul, 2016 @ 2:37pm
Can you make a lsit of nicknames, for example for Rangers, work for a custom class? (asking if I can do it, in ini files and such)
Dragon32 2 Jul, 2016 @ 8:02am
Thanks for the update, Lyrae!
Lyrae  [author] 2 Jul, 2016 @ 6:14am
Updated for Shen's Last Gift. I don't believe this will cause any issues for anyone without the DLC but should you encounter any issues please let me know and I will revert these changes and look to uploading Spark names as a seperate file. Thank you.

@GrimyBunyip's patch has been applied in the latest update, yay!
Lyrae  [author] 9 Jun, 2016 @ 12:20pm
@GrimyBunyip Oh! Thank you! It is very kind for you to have taken the time to do this, bless you. I'll take a look and make an update when I next get some time to work on this.
GrimyBunyip 8 Jun, 2016 @ 8:23am
my bad, that last pastebin still had some typos:

@Lyrae
I took a look at this and the nicknames extended mod, since my loot mod uses soldier nicknames to as nicknames for my weapons.

Noticed that the two of you aren't compatible. So here's a pastebin with a version of your mod that would be compatible with any other nickname mods (assuming they use the same format)

@Angel of Chaos
I haven't personally tried the new patch yet but I haven't had any problems reported either so you should be fine. :)
Memoria 14 May, 2016 @ 6:59pm
Just checking in to see if there are any compatability issues with the new patch.
Lyrae  [author] 2 Apr, 2016 @ 5:30am
Seeing as this conversation has been running for over a month and just won't die I thought I'd make a quick update and interjection.

On reflection, I decided that I agreed with the OP and some of the additions this mod made were insensitive and ill-conceived. I took them out and updated the mod as soon as time allowed.

I declined to join the discussion but all these finger-wagging posts about SJWs or W/E are tiring and pointless. Any further comments made in this vein will be deleted.

Have a nice day.
Eddol 1 Apr, 2016 @ 9:41am
Giving in my thought: I don't see why I would nickname my soldier "Gypsi", so if i get a soldier named just that, I'll change it.... Since we're allowed to do that, you know...

I'm not the author of the mod, and so I don't decide what names should be in it.

I don't decide what feedback is usefull or not either, and should refrain to complain about other peoples' views.
Ghost Fox 30 Mar, 2016 @ 11:42am
As of this post:
Number of comments on the first page complaining about "insensitive" nicknames: 0.
Number of comments on the first page complaining about people complaining about "insensitive" nicknames: Not less than 5.
You may draw your own conclusions from this.
revl8n 30 Mar, 2016 @ 10:02am
If you're upset about a nickname for a fictional guerilla fighter, which you can change, then you should not be playing this game
The Hat 30 Mar, 2016 @ 9:20am
I wish people wouldn't use the term social justice warriors, it sounds like they are talking about criminal cases (justice) and social (society) meaning a person is fighting against crime, with a hint of a cape and a mask almost.

It sounds retarded itself, why not just counter his point. If the person was genuinely arguing on something which bettered society i'd be arguing with him.

Its a game. These are names. Words are next to meaningless, people give them power. Stop giving them power and there'll be just a name to you to.
Krigsprästen 29 Mar, 2016 @ 12:36pm
Holy shit, Social Justice Warriors are fucking retarded.
Ghost Fox 23 Mar, 2016 @ 10:16pm
Civility, citizens. No need to resort to insults and personal attacks. Yes, I see no point in trying to compel a mod author to use only "acceptable" or "approved" nicknames, but that's no excuse for name-calling and harsh language.
Jack 20 Mar, 2016 @ 4:49pm
Social justice warriors seriously need to GTFO.
darkhelmet_12345 20 Mar, 2016 @ 6:17am
The U.S. Army named a badass, tankbusting, ninja helo after the Apache Warrior. Didn't hear much complaining about that. And what little I did hear was short lived and quickly forgotten in the interest of harrassing washingtons ball team instead...
Havelock Vetinari 20 Mar, 2016 @ 5:49am
@Dr.Krieger "Should we sacrifice realism for the sake of sensitivity?"

Sort of? I mean, you don't see small kids in the settlements being shot, even though realistically they should exist, when you kill someone with a shotgun blast at point blank range, all you get is some blood, and not the full gore, and so on.

A realistic XCOM 2 would be far more grim than the one we got.
Roknikus 20 Mar, 2016 @ 5:40am
If people are complaining about the insensitivity of a nickname, just don't use it. You can modify nicknames guys. I'm all for open discussion about these things, but just know that you don't have to use the nickname if you find the nickname offensive. Nicknames like Apache are used in the military, they have some pretty fucked up nicknames sometimes. Should we sacrifice realism for the sake of sensitivity?
Hot Gunt 17 Mar, 2016 @ 3:48pm
Hahahaha people are complaining about the nickname "Apache"?
Should it be replaced with "Snowflake" or "Tumble"?
Revan 16 Mar, 2016 @ 2:40am
Is there seriously a debate about whether 'Apache' is a valid nickname? I didn't realise we were in a state of such PC that military nicknames became so sensitive.
Yoda's Lovechild ™ 13 Mar, 2016 @ 9:05pm
Many people have pointed out a name like "Apache" or the like does not belong as a nickname. Have you considered it a name given to someone who has boasted to his friends about his warrior like qualities, and as a result, they have nicknamed hime Apache to poke fun at him . As Nelo stated, many nicknames in & out of the military are insensitive, either culturally or personally. That is the nature of the nickname.

From where I am standing, I like the authors list & hope he keeps up the good work :KSmiley:
Popato Chisps 8 Mar, 2016 @ 8:51am
@Video Games
People in the military call eachother all kinds of culturally insensitive stuff all the time.
Source: I'm in the military.
One Old Soldier 6 Mar, 2016 @ 10:58am
The biggest thing to keep in mind, as AFK ( posts 4 and 6 below mine) points out, most nicknames are earned from either personality quirks the individual has or from an experience among the unit they work with. Code-names, while similar to some degree, are distinctly different in that they are usually issued by command to tell different members of a team apart from the others without having to memorize all the names for each operative/soldier. For example "Titan 1" might be the team-leader, while "Titan 4" might be the medic.
Invertin 5 Mar, 2016 @ 9:03am
Apache is also the name of a helicopter, guys.
FREND 4 Mar, 2016 @ 10:41pm
Would your mod work with Random Nickname Button by thade? I assume that mod would just generate a nickname from the list you made.
Ghost Fox 4 Mar, 2016 @ 9:44pm
And have you edited the official nickname lists to remove "Viking", "Vandal", and both counts of "Zulu" from your games? ...I'll grant that "Sioux" doesn't bring any situations immediately to mind, but I can think of a handful for "Apache" (including, with a bit of a stretch, one involving the helicopter), and... well, if you're going to insist that "Gypsy" has to have negative connotations, then we're just never going to agree on that one.
Ghost Fox 4 Mar, 2016 @ 7:44am
Let's try a different approach, shall we? These nicknames, in-universe, are given to soldiers by soldiers. "Short" and "memorable" are more important qualities than "culturally sensitive". Or, hell, maybe it's mocking some comment that trooper's never going to live down. Does this help make sense of it?
Justicar 29 Feb, 2016 @ 6:38pm
Who cares its words in a video game.

Nice list btw
-=Darnok=- 29 Feb, 2016 @ 7:25am
Well i would use "Jew" as a callsign for some troopers. :D
Ghost Fox 28 Feb, 2016 @ 6:25am
Or, maybe, let people manually replace any nickname they find offensive -- oh wait, they can already do that, can't they.
TheOtherBarry 25 Feb, 2016 @ 10:29pm
Clean up your mod man. This is just adding to an .ini file. No way it should be 15mb delete the src folder. There are a bunch of files you dont need there.
Havelock Vetinari 17 Feb, 2016 @ 4:54am
@Lyrae aya, I got them working already. I was wondering more about how would I got around creating a mod like yours so that other people could easily use them if they wanted.
