Does it work with WOTC?
Mr. Bubbles 25 Nov, 2017 @ 4:49pm
Is this mod still bugged? I'm looking for something exactly like this, but I don't want to bug my shotguns.
Mr. Nice 17 Feb, 2017 @ 1:29am
Just had a quick peak at your code and compared it to the base X2Effect_HuntersInstinctDamage. The base version checks if the shot is a hit (before checking cover, flanking etc.), your version doesn't.
Mr. Nice 17 Feb, 2017 @ 1:18am
Bug report: This mod is effectively giving shotguns a free superior stock against flanked targets. Ie, shotguns are getting the +3damage on misses on flanked targets!
GrimyBunyip  [author] 23 Jul, 2016 @ 5:29am
Yes this mod already fixed that bug
Jabel 22 Jul, 2016 @ 10:40pm
bg just released Hunters Instinct Fix mod: https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=727080319&searchtext=instinct
From the descriptions, this mod already does the same thing. Just looking for some clarification because I already have this mod installed.

@ragnarok666
the vanilla ini files should have something for hunters instinct damage, I didn't think it made sense to re-implement a vanilla INI option with a new INI option. I forget which file it is in though.
ragnarok666 16 Jul, 2016 @ 11:40pm
Hi Grimy, thanks for another awsomwe mod. Is there a way to edit the bonuses in an ini file? even with the +2 I feel the sword is too powerfiull in the beginnning (and still rather useless in ther end) of a game. I think like +1dmg / 10%crit might be a good compromise.
Arinsugu 12 Jul, 2016 @ 7:14am
Thank you grimy, not only did you fix the crit chance bug with hunter's instinct, you also fixed the bug I'm having where I get no bonus damage from HI at all. Thank you :D
Nitewolf 1 Jul, 2016 @ 1:16pm
Makes sense, I will resub LOL! Thank you, Grimy.
GrimyBunyip  [author] 1 Jul, 2016 @ 12:38pm
@Nitewolf
nah, I still think this is more balanced than the solution firaxis implemented.

15% crit chance is SUBSTANTIALLY less powerful than +3 damage.

I think the +2 damage implementation in my class rebalance is still the most balanced.
Nitewolf 1 Jul, 2016 @ 1:19am
Deprecated with Shen's Last Gift update?
laird Odol [CZ] 17 Jun, 2016 @ 12:57am
@GrimBunyip:
Works now. You sir are awsome!
GrimyBunyip  [author] 16 Jun, 2016 @ 7:19am
@laird
my bad, you were right. I didn't actually fix it last update.
I tested on my rebalance mod, it worked there, so I assumed the fix would work when I'd copy it here.
turns out I forgot to set the damage amount, so it defaulted to +0 on flank.
it's fixed now
laird Odol [CZ] 16 Jun, 2016 @ 1:17am
(My ranger is using magnetic shotgun and Axe from Rulers DLC)
laird Odol [CZ] 16 Jun, 2016 @ 1:16am
I tried unsubsribing and subscribing back. But I also tried disabling your mod (and in fact a lot of other mods) then load a saved game with hunter's instinct oportunity... and I still do base damage. That's wierd. May I need to start new mission? (The save is from yesterday.) Or maybe the bug is somewhere in vanilla part (I searched general forums, but saw no similar problem)?
GrimyBunyip  [author] 15 Jun, 2016 @ 4:01pm
@laird odol
well, i fixed that issue in an update and verified it's working on my end. are you sure you're using an up to date version?
laird Odol [CZ] 15 Jun, 2016 @ 3:27pm
Hi!
It looks like I have the same problem as vandreadfan5003 - no bonus for swords nor for shotgun. I'm not 100% sure it's caused by this mod, but I'm not using any other mod messing with hunter's instinct as far as I know. I bought hunter's instinct and my ranger still does minimal default damage even when flanking enemies - no +3 bonus.
VGSD 12 Jun, 2016 @ 4:34am
I see I see, thanks for the swift reply.
GrimyBunyip  [author] 11 Jun, 2016 @ 9:40pm
@vandreadfan5003
looks like firaxis broke the cantakecover() function? latest update uses a different way to check for cover now.
VGSD 11 Jun, 2016 @ 8:45pm
Hmm instead of adding hunter's instinct bonus damage to sword attacks, this mod is removing it from gun attacks on flanked enemies for me. Any ideas why that's happening?
GrimyBunyip  [author] 12 May, 2016 @ 11:37am
released fix for ruler patch
cjcg000 6 Apr, 2016 @ 12:57am
does this conflict with accurate swords??
Zigg Price 14 Mar, 2016 @ 11:28pm
Oh, didn't even notice that tags were working, now. Nice.
GrimyBunyip  [author] 14 Mar, 2016 @ 8:06pm
@Anomaly Of Awesome
I tagged the mod

What was in the 3/14 update?
SteelTarkus 5 Mar, 2016 @ 11:51pm
@morionicidiot
I just realized sectoids take +3 from melee... Doh! Sorry for the confusion.
GrimyBunyip  [author] 5 Mar, 2016 @ 10:57pm
@Big Time Operator
I've kept this on in all my playtesting and that's never happened to me
SteelTarkus 5 Mar, 2016 @ 10:10pm
Any chance this mod is automatically giving me hunters instinct? I'm seeing 6 to 8 damage on slash with a new game. I haven't bought hunters instinct yet.
7zH 5 Mar, 2016 @ 7:27am
@morionicidiot Thanks for the tip. I'll check it out.
GrimyBunyip  [author] 5 Mar, 2016 @ 7:26am
Yes, volatile only gives 2 damage.

Remember you have to be flanking when you throw the flashbang.
7zH 5 Mar, 2016 @ 7:21am
@morionicidiot are you sure it wasn't Volatile Mix that affected the flashbangs?
Stormchaser 4 Mar, 2016 @ 8:41am
Seriously? Wow, then I just never encountered it. Odd, but useful. :D
GrimyBunyip  [author] 4 Mar, 2016 @ 8:34am
@stormchaser
Hunters instinct affected flashbangs in vanilla xcom
Stormchaser 4 Mar, 2016 @ 8:21am
I think this mod may affect more than just the sword. I flashbanged a group of exposed (flanked) stun lancers, who were wounded, but I wasn't going to be able to take out that turn. It did three damage to each and finished them off. XD

Saved my ass, but this mod is the only thing that I think could have done it. Not a complaint, but just letting you know. :)
Mothra 21 Feb, 2016 @ 11:49pm
Thanks for this. I'd been trying to do the same thing with my own mod without luck.
Charlie Juliet 21 Feb, 2016 @ 8:23pm
And extra conceal
Charlie Juliet 21 Feb, 2016 @ 8:22pm
Thanks very much for the explanation.

I've been working on a Dark Ranger mod myself, and doing a playthrough with it at the moment. It feels quite balanced.

* shotgun is now 1 dmg weaker than the pistol.
* Sword = 1 dmg higher than sniper rifle. higher crits.
* -1 HP every 2 ranks. -3 HP once Colonel.
* going to add higher Dodge.
* player gets both implacable and bladestorm, to make up for hunter's instinct (hence my interest in this mod)

So it becomes a much riskier class, but with more reward too. Risk/reward blance. IMO.

It's the only class i'm fiddling with, because I just feel like they didn't get ranger right.

Actually, if you take all the sword perks out of Ranger, that itself makes a nice Assault Class.
Sort of makes sense to have 2 classes, like an Assault Ranger, and Dark Ranger.
GrimyBunyip  [author] 21 Feb, 2016 @ 7:59pm
@Charlie Juliet

Sorry about that. I haven't been able to figure out how modbuddy uploads descriptions, and it keeps deleting my more detailed mod description.

It is a permanent +3 to swords for all enemies who are not immune to flanks.

Sectopods, Archons, Gatekeepers, MECs cannot be flanked, therefore swords will never receive the +3 against them. Against anything else that can be flanked, you will receive +3 (regardless of whether or not they are standing in the open)
Charlie Juliet 21 Feb, 2016 @ 7:56pm
Can you please help me understand a little bit more about how this works?
I'm not entirely sure, plus i'mcurious also doing some modding of my own.

From what you've said below, it sounds like it "always" is applied on any attack, except if the unit is standing in the open.

From one of your other comments, it also made it seem like you aren't sure if it applies to flanking or not, so I assume it's just permenant.

So isn't this really just saying that it's a permenant +3, for all enemies who aren't standing in the open?

Any info you could provide would be helpful.
I'm also interested in trying to re-balance the Ranger.
Thanks for the mod.

Captain Pugwash 21 Feb, 2016 @ 5:34pm
Aye, collections are good for that, but it's also nice to not have 50 mods to handle and remember which ones to turn on and off. Those that have modifiable values also reset when updated, though that doesn't apply with yours.
GrimyBunyip  [author] 21 Feb, 2016 @ 4:03pm
@ Top of the Pops

Go ahead :), but isn't this what collections are for?
Captain Pugwash 21 Feb, 2016 @ 3:47pm
@morionicidiot Do you mind if I use this mod in a larger umbrella mod I'm creating, with acknowledgement?
Stumblez 20 Feb, 2016 @ 8:41am
@Ser Lancelot, I think you might be thinking this mod automatically grants the Hunter's Instinct upgrade to all Rangers? You still have to get purchase the ability to get this benefit. This mod just grants the bonus damage to sword attacks as well as shotgun attacks.
Ser Lancelot 20 Feb, 2016 @ 5:18am
@Hiro, that's because you're basically nullifying a Ranger ability in the GTS...I'm of the school of thought that if you take something away, replace it. It doesn't have to be great or anything, but it does need to be replaced.
Ser Lancelot 20 Feb, 2016 @ 5:17am
@Power Armor, yes it would. The Katana mod is a weapons .ini change, this isn't.
Ser Lancelot 20 Feb, 2016 @ 5:17am
Can you please upload this on the Nexus? Thanks!
[Power Armor]Silver Knight 19 Feb, 2016 @ 10:33pm
Question, would this work with the Katana mod?
GrimyBunyip  [author] 19 Feb, 2016 @ 7:25pm
@Ginger

Yes it makes hunters instinct always apply to sword attacks. I'm not sure how to query if the end position of an attack is flanking or not. If I knew I'd try to implement it otherwise.

However, it will not give you the flanking bonus on enemies that cannot take cover. An hunter's instinct wouldn't work on an archon with a shotgun, it won't work with this mod and swords.
Ginger 19 Feb, 2016 @ 6:45pm
I think, based on the words he used, he was talking about replacing it, as in getting rid of it. Which seems pointless, because why would you buff a thing and then remove it from the game entirely?

My question is, does it make Hunter's Instinct apply to almost every sword attack? Cuz it's fairly rare you melee someone behind cover, normally it's around a corner or when you're both standing on the same side of a piece of cover, and in both those cases Hunter's Instinct would apply to a shotgun.
