So.. I did my thing ...
WOTC Select Soldier Icons Redux ... I hope this was okay ...
RustyDios 8. apr. 2023 kl. 20:09
@ZFail
... man is this a longshot as there has been no comment since FEB 2016!

I would like to (and I am going to) make a new version of this mod for WOTC, incorporating some of the suggestions below and some of the new features in use within the WOTC Community Highlander (like dynamic class icons).

I really like this mod's simplicity as an alternative to Quick Soldier Info.
I am happy to report that for all my testing (and using AML) this mod does indeed still work perfectly fine in WOTC. I just want to add and tweak some things.

If you have any issues with this please try to contact me through steam or discord.
Obviously all credit for the idea and original implementation will be given.

@Obsidyan
There is a limit set in the config file for "MaxIcons", this is indeed set to 12 by default

@Ralf

No way! That's awesome. Thanks man.
Ralf 7. juni 2022 kl. 7:54
@Colossus715 works with LWOTC
Colossus715 21. dec. 2021 kl. 8:51
Has anyone tried this in LWOTC?
Obsidyan 8. mar. 2021 kl. 1:49
Still works as of today.
Just a thing I saw this week : it seems this mod can't display more than 12 soldier icons.
I downloaded a mod to have a 10 soldier squad, and when you had a dominated enemy, a resistance soldier at start, and a random enemy at start, the last one has no icon.
Not a big thing, though :)

You can force this Mod to load despite the new launcher by editing XComModOptions.ini in Documents\My Games\XCOM2 War of the Chosen\XComGame\Config and adding
ActiveMods=SoldierSelectIcons
Note that this will reset if you go edit your mods in the launcher again.
This trick doesn't work with all vanilla mods so be careful
BookNerd IRL 10. sep. 2020 kl. 10:02
This no longer works with the new game load screen. At least not with WOTC. If anyone knows the author of this mod, please beg and plead for them to update it. :)
niesie_mol 2. sep. 2020 kl. 12:20
This mod seems broken now.
It's always worked for me, until the game launcher got updated, and you had to select mods differently.
Fucking shame they somehow made this game work worse than before....

I use this mod alongside Unit Selection Order (https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=839670497) . Unit Selection Order allows me to change the order in which soldiers are selected (next/previous unit). I love it because I generally want my soldiers to act in a specific sequence. I also love Select Soldier Icons because sometimes I need to break out of that order, especially after the first turn of combat.

One thing that would really enhance this mod for me and, I suggest, others who use the two mods together would be if this mod were able to pick up when the selection order is changed by the other mod and then rearrange its icons in the corresponding order. If that's not possible or no one is interested in doing it, I understand, of course; but I'd appreciate the enhancement.

This MOD is really good
Zyxpsilon 2. sep. 2017 kl. 20:27
@Gong-Gle-E.. it already works just fine. ZFail might still do an update if necessary though.
Gong-Gle-E 2. sep. 2017 kl. 18:08
i waiting update for WotC
Tzarnal - MoonWolf 29. aug. 2017 kl. 8:34
This seems to be mostly functional in WOTC. Or at least, i've not seen any bugs after a handful of missions. Sometimes takes a few actions to actually be shown after loading a save though.
Proaxel 14. mar. 2017 kl. 19:37
Suggestion: Is it possible you could make the icons change color to yellow when they have only one action point left? That would be really helpful!
Voided 23. feb. 2017 kl. 14:57
There's a bug : If you switch character during shoot preview and take the shot and that shot ends the mission, then the camera will be stuck and the mission will never end.

Support controller?
5ofClubs 6. jan. 2017 kl. 10:47
Would it be possible to create an option in the soldier appearance customization, to choose unique icons for individual soldiers, separate from their class icon?
wolff_laarcen 26. nov. 2016 kl. 8:28
I've used this mod since it appeared here in the workshop and am still using it. It's one of my must-haves for every campaign. Thanks for making it.

Any chance you could change the icon background colors based on how many action points a unit has left? I'd love to be able to determine actions left at-a-glance.

Again, thanks for an awesome mod.
Zyxpsilon 24. juli 2016 kl. 20:29
@ZFail -- Could you please expose the "Backdrop" colors schema to the INI as configurable HEX-Code (#??????) for each states of the Units as they are performing their Turns?
Right now you are hooking them all to the Firaxis HTML defaults (NORMAL + GOOD + DISABLED.. etc).
I'd prefer a set of "Dark Grey Shades & One Pure Black" which would better match with my qUIck_RCP custom Class/Icons.

February is a long way in the past .. anyhow, i might just get lucky with this formal request. ;)
[Fr] Big C 19. mar. 2016 kl. 8:21
Hello modder. Thanks your mod is amazing.
I think there is an other mod that add a picture of the soldier and more informations but your mod is fine for me now.
Is there a way to make the order of the soldiers changable ? It would be amazing !
kenanthebarbarian 18. mar. 2016 kl. 8:14
@sernik I'd like to add in the color and transparency effects you posted below, but I'm not sure how to insert the coding. Can I just copy and paste the text you posted at the bottom of the .ini?
Publius Maximus 14. mar. 2016 kl. 12:16
I was literally going to take up modding in order to create a mod just like this. My version would have used soldier portraits instead of rank/class badges, but I think your way is a lot cleaner.

So: not only did you get there first, you did a better version than I would have. Kudos!
Mirroga 14. mar. 2016 kl. 3:51
I highly suggest cropping the box layout to only show the symbol of the class/alien/turret/advent while retaining the square hitbox for clicking. It would really improve upon the design of the mod.
RussischerZar 11. mar. 2016 kl. 13:09
Hi, first of all: cool mod!
Secondly: there's currently a small project going on that wants to add in-game mod options which I think your mod could benefit from, even though there are only a few options. Having the options in-game and changing them on the fly would be pretty cool for this I think!
Killhmonger 28. feb. 2016 kl. 10:15
I've had a bug where if I click the soldier icons too soon before another soldier's action cutscene completes that it freezes the game. It has happened twice. To solve the issue I'd restart the game. Maybe you can test that out? I like the mod by the way. Thanks.
Hamsterkun 27. feb. 2016 kl. 12:29
Perfect!
dkasper 25. feb. 2016 kl. 21:11
Very nice mod, would you consider uploading it to the Nexus? Thank you!
Erdjo 25. feb. 2016 kl. 18:56
Very impressive, any idea if it might conflict with anything?
Mr McTabernaffy 25. feb. 2016 kl. 14:08
fyi if you have a mouse with 'forward' and 'backward' buttons on the side you can switch between units
Nedlee 25. feb. 2016 kl. 5:00
@SilverSurferNHS
Well UI designers at Firaxis wants to display minimal information because it looks cooler or something, but for me it is simply counterintuitive. Other example of this is the shot accuracy breakdown where you have to manually click the button to show how accuracy and crit is calculated when taking a shot. It's just annoying. Fortunately there is a mod that fixes this problem.
jessen21 24. feb. 2016 kl. 22:07
can you put this up on Xcom 2 Nexus?
eeedora 24. feb. 2016 kl. 19:19
Great work :steamhappy: really need it in game .
wolff_laarcen 24. feb. 2016 kl. 13:55
This is GOLD. You're doing great work here.
K. Constantine 24. feb. 2016 kl. 13:08
@SilverSurferNHS
Come on man, every good tactics game ever has had an unit bar.
SilverSurferNHS 24. feb. 2016 kl. 12:16
@Nedlee
I think the devs were just more focused on the core gameplay mechanics and getting the initial UI design down. These are really quality of life type of UI changes that are very subjective and hard to make work for everyone. It's funny, they put all that work into balancing the game the way they think we want, and we all download mods that mess up that formula in one way or another.
Nedlee 24. feb. 2016 kl. 7:09
I always wondered why firaxis didn't put anything like this in the game. Thanks for the great mod. Like all the other people said, I think some customizable additional information displayed next to the icon would be really nice. I mean nothing too fancy, simply nickname, health, action point and ammo would be good enough for gameplay.
MantLemon 24. feb. 2016 kl. 3:51
@sernik I second you! It would be even better if the blank part of the icons could be gone.
jackoftrades222 23. feb. 2016 kl. 23:29
Would be nice if you could make a mod for soldiers who have too many abilities. They start to disappear when too many abilities are on a soldier. Haven't been able to grapple at all despite wearing the wraith.
Arkan 23. feb. 2016 kl. 14:55
This Mod is so handy. Thank you very much! :ccknight:
SilverSurferNHS 23. feb. 2016 kl. 13:52
I too, think faces should be optional, but icons tell me at a glance whose skills i have to work with. Names would be a great option still, i think, so i know which particular person of the class whose icon is visible that i have available to work with.
zuff 23. feb. 2016 kl. 12:34
I vote for faces with a class icon above them
Maximus 23. feb. 2016 kl. 11:37
I was dreamin about such UI extension and there it is, gotta try it out!
Graveheart 23. feb. 2016 kl. 9:43
completely forgot about the in memorial stuff, then there should be no problem
McDougal 23. feb. 2016 kl. 8:21
I second the Faces instead of Icons approach, but this is an interesting, tactical concept.
K. Constantine 23. feb. 2016 kl. 8:02
Names for the vertical stacking feature would be great as well, just the same style as when a soldier is currently selected, just smaller to fit.
Prosims 23. feb. 2016 kl. 5:44
faces insteaf of icons would be better, if possible
GnaReffotsirk 23. feb. 2016 kl. 0:53
This is excellent.
