Sorry, I'm not adding any new features as i have discontinued the development of mods for DST.
There are plenty of mods that can tweak the gameplay itself, by increasing inventory size, having bigger containers etc or you can adjust your gameplay to be able to carry the chests to your base and store loot there. Nothing much more i could help with, can't please everyone, thank you for your input tho.
I'm using this mod for around 2 weeks, is really good and has one of the best configuration options that I never see in a DST MOD.

The drop chance has 2 different spawn chance configuration options. One is global (at the bottom of the config list) and others are individual. If you set both of these to minimum, you get nearly no drops, they become very rare. So make sure you have configured both drop chance options.
The answer to your second question is answered in the mods description. Please read all of it.
Also: Do the different colors correspond to different items? like red for weapons and green for food?
Sorry, no. I don't do mods for DS version.
That option means the spawns of Treasure Chests and Keys will spawn with a configured time delay when you pick grass or saplings for example, not instant drop. This means you loot things normally, but the chests and keys appear later. This means when you wonder around the world you randomly find chests and keys or if you want to wait near Grass farm for drops, you could do that as well, but it's sort of annoying so people just pick things and eventually there are nice distribution of chests and keys around the world.
Not understand this option, the rest seems clear:
"You can also set a timer feature on how long after the Chests or Keys spawn into the world, to make the spawns more random."
