You would need to attach a plane to the character controller, facing the camera. If you would like I could make a version for your game, if its for the tournament then we could collab. I dont remember this workshop item really good, but everything should be suitable for a 2d character sprite attatched to the controller.

okay, I would like to ask, how do I use this with a 2d sprite? also, can you make a version for NPCs?
