Looks great, thanks, but sadly it looks too small in scale compared to passing traffic.

@X-minions Models cannot be any bigger than this (16x8) in Cities Skylines. You would have to split it up.
Looks beautiful anyway.

Hi @ DarpaHunter ... there is a mod called points of interests you can use and get people into all your buildings

Zero visitors. Am I placing it at the wrong location?
CertainDeath 1 Nov, 2016 @ 9:35pm
this looks fantastic!
just one thing which dissapoints me. as its a unique building, it flattens the ground around the castle. So i cant shape mountains so that the castle sits on them... looks a bit weird to see a mountain castle with flat terrain all around.

making this a Prop would solve this. I also would like it more in original scale.
Could you do that pls? :) i would send you some nice pictures whith it in nice landscape in return to add to workshop :)

Looks amazing, but compared to the vanilla buildings, it looks a little small (scale wise) are there any plans to make it slightly larger in scale?
Zabard 23 Apr, 2016 @ 5:20pm
Same for me, luisetania. No visitors.
luisetania 6 Apr, 2016 @ 1:16pm
No visitors at this in my city. Does anybody else have this problem?
htintin 23 Mar, 2016 @ 7:18am
Maybe : ) but i 've some clues, when following one of them entering the castle, i saw it falling in the ground for a long journey to nowhere, travelling at the speed of light then they disapear from space and time
Quboid 21 Mar, 2016 @ 8:36pm
@htintin Maybe a renegade general and some marines are holding them hostage in the castle while threatening your city with nerve gas, demanding money for themselves and for perceived injustices against the families of fallen soldiers?
htintin 17 Mar, 2016 @ 4:10am
Very beautiful Castle, good job, but a lot of cims visiting it are lost and disapear when they want to leave the castle, do you know why ?

@templeofdoom: aah you are talkin about overlaying well yes, I know that and I already massivelly used that on this model. However if I would stack even more then you would clearly see repeated pattern on castle walls & grounds beneath, which you don't want right?
If I would show you UV layout you may be surprised how many parts are overlayed/stacked.

However size of the packed model is not what I am worried about, what I care about is how CO is doing it and what they recommend we shall do for our models to be properly used by their game ;)
So I followed most of their guidlines. Only limit I didn't full fill is the lod tris count. They said we shall have up to 200 tris for lod, but for this kinda "organic" like structure this is almost impossible without compromising "seen switch" between LOD and high poly model.

What templeofdoom ISN'T explaining about UV Stacks is that they're actually pretty hard to pull off correctly, depending on what your model is (and what your limits are). If you're not careful with your UVs, you can end up spindling the texture around, and if you're trying to bake displacement or normals as well, you're depending on the stacks being impeccable.
danizmax 15 Mar, 2016 @ 12:29pm
Lepo!
templeofdoom 14 Mar, 2016 @ 4:37pm
RE: "Stacking Shells" This refers to "stacking" the UV Boxes in your 3D Model program so they re-use the same texture space thus giving you more room to expand your UV's for better detail or to 'stack' them so you don't have to spread your UV squares out everywhere that don't need to be. UV's for the most part can be layered on top of each other where each UV box will display what's underneath it even if there is another UV under it. I can try and find a video for you if you'd like to know more! :D
templeofdoom 14 Mar, 2016 @ 4:37pm
@50Keda - let me clarify and say if you have an asset worthy of the 2048 size by all means use it - but I was just commenting to the point that if you decide to - the file size will bloat proportionally more with that sized texture than it will with smaller ones. I know a lot of creators use 2048 maps and although some definitely don't need them, others want higher detail & quality on an asset that's size and uniqueness deserve the extra space. I'm not saying "don't" use 2048 textures but rather understand they will bloat a file size on an asset! You can have a 20k tri asset with 512 resolution textures at 3mb's but if you convert it to 2048 textures that same asset could bloat to 7, 8 , 9 MB's in size just on texture alone (remember it's not just 1 image, rather 5 or 6 images all at 1.-2mb's if using large PNG's).
50keda  [author] 14 Mar, 2016 @ 4:16pm
@tampleofdoom: The point of using 1 quarter for brick and 1 quarter for rocks is, because that texture part is used for most of the model. So compromising texture there will have a big impact on detail for most of the castle which I don't want.
And frankly I checked some of the original assets and they are also widely using big textures, even bigger that it is mine. So I don't see a problem in 2kx1k ;)

Btw what exactly you mean with "stacking shells" o.O
templeofdoom 14 Mar, 2016 @ 3:32pm
Hey 50keda - I know that file size is bloated big time by texture space - if you use 2048x2048 this is going to eat up file size in the model big time. I've noticed many high-polygon/tri count models aren't so bad with the file size but the minute you upgrade to 2048x2048 you'll notice a big jump. When I model I try to keep everything at 1024x1024 if possible and use UV mirroring and stacking as best as I can to save texture space. With a castle like this and having it really using the brick texture for most of it, maybe you can stack shells to save some of that texture space.

@50keda hoping to see great works from you, as im used to in ETS2 :)
when you are open to mod sugestions, givve a call, i have 2 ideas for trams that noone seems to have time for them.... im no modder, all i have done is ets2 skins (easy peasy) and some tryes at farming sim maps (none published).

Really good work!
Expecially because it is NOT (like too many others ) above 10mb to 30mb!

1. Solution: is it possible to size the castle to 1:1 in your 3D soft, and then cut it into pieces?
(maybe with plugin)
Or you should ask "bouldlybuilding" how he did it with his empire state building (he has a 11 part version and a one part version)
I think he can help you!
Greetings from Germany

@the size issue: I have been thinkning about 3 solutions:
1. use Sub-buldings feature -> I don't like it because model was not made for it so spliting texture in two parts it's not easy as it seems
2. just create two unique buildings -> I don't like it either bacause you have to have perfectly flat area for two pieces to align togetther
3. just make a model out of bounds of the building -> again there is a problem with flattening, because game just doesn't care about terrain outside bounds, meaning there will be either artifical wall or castle will be torn into the ground.

So if anyone has any other solution for this issue please, let me know ;)

@[RS] Marco: yes, it's me.
