Reinstalled the game recently and found out about asset cooking which lowers the file size and memory usage of voice packs by 90% so decided to go back and update all my voice packs starting with the WOTC Meatwad one. Now since I have forgotten everything about voice pack making (and never wrote anything down lmao) I'm probably going to wait and see if anything breaks with that pack before updating the rest.
So please do playtest the Meatwad pack and let me know if it causes anything to crash and/or explode because I'm just following a tutorial (thank you Iridar for the help on discord) and have no real understanding of how any of this stuff works.
Now I seem to be having trouble with corrupt saves. Like for example. I start a new game, save on first turn of the first mission. But when I exit the game, load it up with the same mods, the save file is out of date?
Thanks :)
However, using voicepacks WILL increase your initial load times for the pre-launcher and intial boot. With 16GB of RAM I hit a 2 minute loading mark at one point in Vanilla when my workshop folder hit 12GB in size with about 96 mods (audio is large).
(Skyrim functions with a 36GB mod folder)
Btw, excellent work on your mods, they are great :)
(I began using voice pack mods only recently, so that's why I haven't learned of this earlier).
Now, the Reddit/Steam posts I read online are around 1-1,5 years old, so they are obviously referring to the base game tools.
I haven't noticed much difference myself yet, since WOTC has optimized the loading time and I haven't tested it without the voice packs (yet). It still loads faster than base game.
But I was wondering, has anyone else had these experience with these voice packs? And do anyone know if Firaxis fixed this problem for the WOTC modding tools?
(Am currently subscribing to 22 voice packs from this list.)
And you're right, all I do is rip audio from other games and make them into voice packs. Like it says at the top of the page, I'm not a modder, I never claimed to be. I don't have the skills that Capnbub or Pavonis or others have, this is just something I started doing as a kind of hobby because it was fun.
Jesus.
I don't really have any voices that would fit the Templar or Skirmisher classes, besides maybe the space marine ones or possibly the Battleborn pack, so I've been working on a Dawn of War 2 Eldar units pack. Relic recorded a ton of audio for DOW2, many takes per action, so there should be enough dialogue for a few voices there. Unfortunately, been having a hard time finding a lot of order confirmation lines.
Was also piddling around with some Battleborn voices.
Just wanna say I super appreciate your work and how much effort you've put into all these packs. Your stuff is pretty much the gold standard for voice packs as far as I'm concerned. Perfect sound levels, well picked lines, enough variation and generic "okay" order confirmations that the more verbose lines don't start grating.
Is there anything specific you'll be working on after The Great Updatening is done? Not trying to request anything, just curious.
This caused worldwide server lag, you can see the service level dips. I went to the gym, came back, working much smoother now for me in Europe.
@Wildling Beard Thanks man.
@Aeimnestuss Yeah, I intend to add them all once they're updated.
I will add some new-SDK packs into my current campaign for testing.
Also, I want to try and get these packs updated before that hurricane that's coming destroys the planet and/or my local power grid.
