Hey it's one of the few games I go back to every now and then. Had a lot of fun checking out all the stuff that's been added by modders in the last few years. But here's a better question, where the heck is XCOM 3?
White Rabbit 5 Apr, 2023 @ 7:14pm
Dammit are you going to make me reinstall and play the game again years later? Hmmmm....
Walker Texas Ranger  [author] 3 Apr, 2023 @ 7:02am
Ok, done cooking all the WOTC voice packs. 5.7gb to 570mb. Hopefully that improves performance for everyone and it doesn't cause any game crippling problems down the road.
Walker Texas Ranger  [author] 31 Mar, 2023 @ 1:38pm
Sorry for disappearing for a few years there.

Reinstalled the game recently and found out about asset cooking which lowers the file size and memory usage of voice packs by 90% so decided to go back and update all my voice packs starting with the WOTC Meatwad one. Now since I have forgotten everything about voice pack making (and never wrote anything down lmao) I'm probably going to wait and see if anything breaks with that pack before updating the rest.

So please do playtest the Meatwad pack and let me know if it causes anything to crash and/or explode because I'm just following a tutorial (thank you Iridar for the help on discord) and have no real understanding of how any of this stuff works.

Walker's voice packs are responsible for so many new campaigns for me, just to hear all the new characters throughout each mission. Such great work.
Venator 3 Apr, 2020 @ 3:35pm
You are a generous genius. Thank you.
sucksass 24 Mar, 2020 @ 8:54pm
Great fucking voice packs! I don't know who you are, but I'd let you have sex with my wife.
archlute 19 Jan, 2020 @ 2:09pm
I may be late to the game but seriously, BIIIG thank you for these voice packs!!!
Mr. Skibidi 18 Sep, 2019 @ 6:46am
Best voice packs around and even for vanilla. :2016roasted:

I hope he's still alive, he hasn't been online in a LONG time.
Dawnpromise 26 Apr, 2019 @ 5:29am
These are some of the best voicepacks on the workshop.
vewlixx 25 Mar, 2019 @ 8:51am
I was hoping there'd be a Walker voice pack so I can roundhouse some aliens :(
ZeuS 16 Jul, 2018 @ 9:50pm
ffs you single handendly elevated the game to a whole different level. What an unbelievably fantastic completely crazy job... thank you!
onewhofound 16 Jul, 2018 @ 8:46am
Walker, you do good modding work. Might even be better than your roundhouse kicks. If you had a patreon or something I wouldn't mind send you a couple bucks for all the grins you have given me.
Shard Obsidia 1 May, 2018 @ 8:26am
Your hard work made this game great again. Don't stay away from Steam too long!:B1:
rjhayes000 17 Mar, 2018 @ 5:12pm
Thank you for your hard work. These voices add a new level to the game.
Kaotic_Slaughter 1 Feb, 2018 @ 6:54am
Great stuff, thank you!

Thanks so very much for all your hard work!

Ah, I thought I was the only one having this problem! When I loaded the launcher, before the game could even boot up, the RAM would skyrocket to 13000 before crashing saying my PC was out of memory.

Now I seem to be having trouble with corrupt saves. Like for example. I start a new game, save on first turn of the first mission. But when I exit the game, load it up with the same mods, the save file is out of date?
Killer Rabbit 20 Sep, 2017 @ 6:57am
I have about 110 mods installed (75 of which are voice packs) and I can say that there's a noticeable load time for the launcher compared to when I wasn't using mods. It's probably a good 30 seconds? I should time it next time. It's not bad and it's a small tradeoff for using the mods.
Dr Fright 20 Sep, 2017 @ 6:23am
I tried to google whether the problem had been patched or not, but you know Google, tends to spam me with the wrong answers (that being people posting about the problem *before* the fix).

Thanks :)
Cato 20 Sep, 2017 @ 5:54am
I remember there was a memory leak issue way back in Feb-Apr 2015 which was due to voicepacks containing duplicate class files. That was addressed a long time ago.

However, using voicepacks WILL increase your initial load times for the pre-launcher and intial boot. With 16GB of RAM I hit a 2 minute loading mark at one point in Vanilla when my workshop folder hit 12GB in size with about 96 mods (audio is large).

(Skyrim functions with a 36GB mod folder)
Dr Fright 20 Sep, 2017 @ 4:19am
Am also curious to know if Walker, Texas Ranger has circumvented the problem or not (it appears to be fixes out there), that's why I ask here.

Btw, excellent work on your mods, they are great :)
Dr Fright 20 Sep, 2017 @ 4:16am
I just came across a claim that voice pack mods tend to eat your RAM, due to bugs in the mod developer tool.
(I began using voice pack mods only recently, so that's why I haven't learned of this earlier).

Now, the Reddit/Steam posts I read online are around 1-1,5 years old, so they are obviously referring to the base game tools.

I haven't noticed much difference myself yet, since WOTC has optimized the loading time and I haven't tested it without the voice packs (yet). It still loads faster than base game.

But I was wondering, has anyone else had these experience with these voice packs? And do anyone know if Firaxis fixed this problem for the WOTC modding tools?

(Am currently subscribing to 22 voice packs from this list.)

Thank you Walker.
Killer Rabbit 17 Sep, 2017 @ 2:58pm
I only wish you had created a separate collection for War of the Chosen so I could just click the button to "subscribe to all". :steamhappy:
Killer Rabbit 17 Sep, 2017 @ 2:49pm
I wanted to chime in here and say thank you for spending the time to put these together! I really enjoy having the extra voices available in the game. The Saints Row ones are some of my favorites.
MOELANDER 16 Sep, 2017 @ 4:28am
@Skyomyke No you're the lowest. Nothing warrants verbal abuse such as this.
Cato 16 Sep, 2017 @ 1:41am
I greatly prefer selecting individual voice packs to restrict memory bloat on huge mod lists. I guess it helps I'm not 12 years old and throwing a tantrum over free mods.
Narg 16 Sep, 2017 @ 1:09am
@Sykomyke Instead of thanking the mod author, for instead of doing anything else in his free time, he is creating something wonderful for us to use, (free of charge) is really a dick move. You should be ashamed of yourself.
Walker Texas Ranger  [author] 15 Sep, 2017 @ 10:09pm
Finished updating the packs to WOTC. Keep in mind that none of the new abilities added in WOTC will have lines unless they reuse voice cues from the original game, like some of the Skirmisher's grappling hook abilities. As far as I know, there's no way to assign lines to newer abilities since the editor only displays cues from the original game.
Walker Texas Ranger  [author] 15 Sep, 2017 @ 9:08pm
Relax. Advertising my voice packs for some non-existent profit or competition isn't my intention. I was gifted the DLC by a user so that I could update the voice packs for the expansion, so that's what I've been doing. People asked me in the past to package each character separately since they didn't want the whole group as a single download. For example, if someone just wants the TF2 Heavy Weapons Guy then they'd have to download 400mb of other characters they may not even use. It's done for the convenience of the user, greed or ego has nothing to do with it.

And you're right, all I do is rip audio from other games and make them into voice packs. Like it says at the top of the page, I'm not a modder, I never claimed to be. I don't have the skills that Capnbub or Pavonis or others have, this is just something I started doing as a kind of hobby because it was fun.

Jesus.
Narg 15 Sep, 2017 @ 11:06am
Cheers man for updating your voicepacks for WOTC! You are our hero!
Walker Texas Ranger  [author] 13 Sep, 2017 @ 1:36pm
Probably just be an Eldar pack, got the banshee audio sorted but want to include another voice before I release it. Still need to update the rest of these packs though. Gonna be a while.
Cato 13 Sep, 2017 @ 6:30am
I've just imagined the Space Marine pack on a Skirmisher yelling the 'TRAITORS' line when a pod is spotted lol. Speaking of which will they be making the jump over or are you planning a combined DOW2 pack with new Eldar goodness? :eagle:
SNAPCRACK 12 Sep, 2017 @ 5:55pm
makes game much better, thanks
Walker Texas Ranger  [author] 12 Sep, 2017 @ 12:26pm
Thanks a lot, glad you like them. Up until the expansion came out I wasn't really planning on making anymore voice packs, didn't even have time to play the game. But after playing WOTC to test the updated packs, I'm kinda itching to make a couple to fill some gaps introduced by the expansion.

I don't really have any voices that would fit the Templar or Skirmisher classes, besides maybe the space marine ones or possibly the Battleborn pack, so I've been working on a Dawn of War 2 Eldar units pack. Relic recorded a ton of audio for DOW2, many takes per action, so there should be enough dialogue for a few voices there. Unfortunately, been having a hard time finding a lot of order confirmation lines.

Was also piddling around with some Battleborn voices.
Norpal 12 Sep, 2017 @ 11:31am
Welp, looks like I have some mousework to do before I start my next campaign.... gotta unsubscribe from all the non-WotC versions and sub to the WotC ones.

Just wanna say I super appreciate your work and how much effort you've put into all these packs. Your stuff is pretty much the gold standard for voice packs as far as I'm concerned. Perfect sound levels, well picked lines, enough variation and generic "okay" order confirmations that the more verbose lines don't start grating.

Is there anything specific you'll be working on after The Great Updatening is done? Not trying to request anything, just curious.
Cato 11 Sep, 2017 @ 9:34am
Yes, India servers went down earlier today according to Steam Status: https://steamstat.us/

This caused worldwide server lag, you can see the service level dips. I went to the gym, came back, working much smoother now for me in Europe.
Walker Texas Ranger  [author] 11 Sep, 2017 @ 9:32am
lol I hope it's not shitting up the Workshop too much. Have you noticed it's taking forever to load today?
Cato 11 Sep, 2017 @ 9:29am
Hasnt happened since for me either. Loving the current deluge of updated packs btw!
Walker Texas Ranger  [author] 11 Sep, 2017 @ 9:20am
@Cato Heresy Using the WOTC version voicepacks, I managed to get the Chosen to abduct a few more soldiers and there were no crashes. So hopefully that's no longer a concern.

@Wildling Beard Thanks man.

@Aeimnestuss Yeah, I intend to add them all once they're updated.
Aeimnestuss 10 Sep, 2017 @ 1:04pm
any plans on making your updated WoTC mods in a collection too?
Swords 10 Sep, 2017 @ 10:20am
Best voice packs in the workshop.
Cato 5 Sep, 2017 @ 9:03am
Update on that crash: Since disabling all old-SDK voice mods I have not had a single CTD in any form in over 12 hours gametime.

I will add some new-SDK packs into my current campaign for testing.
Walker Texas Ranger  [author] 5 Sep, 2017 @ 5:17am
Okay I've updated a couple of packs and made them only available to friends for testing. I want to see if anyone can replicate the crash that Cato Heresy was experiencing when a Chosen tries to abduct a soldier. Hopefully it's not related but if it is... lol I have no idea what I would do to fix it. So before I commit to updating all 80 of these packs I want to at least make sure I'm doing this right.

Also, I want to try and get these packs updated before that hurricane that's coming destroys the planet and/or my local power grid.
Ultimate Despair 4 Sep, 2017 @ 1:15pm
Just happy to see the best voice packs updated! I'll let you know when I think of a voice. Nothing pops into my head at the moment.
Cato 4 Sep, 2017 @ 8:27am
Jill you legend :Hire: :D:
Walker Texas Ranger  [author] 3 Sep, 2017 @ 5:38pm
Cool, thanks for the purchase. Time to start working on updating these packs. I owe you a voice pack at least if you have any requests.
Ultimate Despair 3 Sep, 2017 @ 7:45am
No worries dude, I'll be sure to do it once I get home.
